Well they may be losers but it's hard to blame them considering the state of moderation in there. It's gone so bad that most translators now refuse to translate anything with Kaga in it.

One of the translators is the one I was referring to, and I believe he already read them and passed on them because of their stories' quality, not the scans'; translators don't usually pass on translating something because the scans had poor quality. The other translator is less active and rarely translates anything /u/ related so don't count on him.

If you want, you can typeset this. It's one of the rare /u/ approved stuff the second guy did.

Yeah I guess the quality of an /a/ thread wouldn't be above a garbage fire at this point, considering how generals tend to devolve over time. But being honest, it's no one's fault but them that k/a/ntai sucks cock lol it's already hard having to rely on /a/ because the kancolle western fandom is dead.

Translators work for free and no one can force them to do what they don't want, but it's funny how the blandest het and/or hetshit porn is scanlated in 10 seconds while yuri doujins have to be drawn by Dürer and come with a professionally written movie script for the translators to even consider looking at them. Different translators have different things that they like. And most of them play the game (translators who don't at least act like they play the game and know the characters get shat on, so those who don't play the game mostly don't bother translating), so you really shouldn't be surprised that they'd mostly translate what they like. And of course that spammer being there doesn't help matters; he's done a good job at making them dislike anything /u/ related. 4chan is a place where the more you spam something, the more people will hate it. So you can blame him for that.

The /a/ thread would've been a very different place had the hot pockets there actually did their job from the start. Really.

Okay, so I got Northern Water Princess down to last kill, but can't finish her off. Here's my fleet.

Well, I tried putting ABKM, KTKM, and Ooi in my escort fleet and I actually did less damage. Didn't even clear the enemy escort fleet.

Tbh your escort fleet setup is terrible. Why are you bringing mixed cutins on ships with no luck stat? Avoid mixed CI, if you want to use torp CI with these ships give them only to ABKM and Kasumi, ABKM as flagship at least has semi-decent CI chance. Double attack CLT should be good enough, replace Verniy with KTKM. Also reshuffle the order so your stronger attacks go last.

And what the fuck is with Hatsuzuki's equips, why are you not using 2x 10cm+AAFD? With those AA guns she won't even do a proper night battle attack and I'm not sure if its even a valid AACI setup.

For your main fleet spread out the bombers so everyone is holding at least one, otherwise your dragons will just sit there doing nothing looking like idiots during shelling.

OK, here's what you're doing wrong.

Split your fighters and bombers so that each CV has at least one torpedo or dive bomber; this will allow them to attack during shelling phase. Put the Saiun in the smallest possible plane slot which should be on Hiryuu or Soryuu - or just don't bother with it at all. You're probably fucked without Green-T or Doukousen anyway and it won't increase the chances of those.

CLTs and ABKM should be using two red guns (I like the 15.2cm for the extra accuracy but I don't think it's that important).

Nachi should have either a 20.3cm or 20.3cm(no.3) as those two give extra night battle accuracy on CAs; the No.2 does not but it's still worth using at least one for the base accuracy it gives.

Hatsuzuki should be using that air radar with the two 10cm high-angle + anti-air fire director that she gets as stock equips for the best anti-air cut-in, plus those are dual-purpose guns so she'll also be able to attack with them; right now she has no anti-surface weapons.

You should never use gun+torp launcher combos (kouhyouteki doesn't count) as they give the mixed cut-in which rarely fires and does meh damage anyway. Give your DDs two red guns plus a radar, or if they have high luck, three torpedo launchers.

Stick one fighter - the only ones that can reach the boss are the Zero model 21 - into your LBAS to help with air superiority and also take less bauxite losses from bombers being shot down. You should really also be sending all three LBAS to the boss if you have the bombers, and I think you can craft type-96s.

Finally, for your escort fleet put your CLTs towards the end so they're not wasting their massive night battle damage potential on any surviving small fry. Abukuma and Kiso, who get the 5th fleet damage boost, should be LAST to fire. I'd personally go Hatsuzuki > Nachi > Verniy > KTKM > Kiso > ABKM.

This is a first.

What difficulty? While you can use all ships on E5 regardless of difficulty, enemy fighter power differs, and so will the setup you'll need on your CVs. List your carriers and planes. If you don't have enough Suisei, remodel your Souryuu and Hiryuu since they each give one at Kai. Also take them out for Akagi and Kaga.

If even now you still only have one AP shell, better get some more soon (10/30/90/10). More planes would be nice too.

I cleared with suijou so I put sonars on my escort fleet, but kidou doesn't need those. Instead, a searchlight and one or two flares would be more useful here. Or extra seaplanes (unlike radars, the artillery spotting benefit they give applies fleetwide instead of a single ship, and they also give more effective LoS). By the way, you didn't get the Shiun from the limited time quest this January? You can also switch Bep's flare with a radar, if it removes your need for a saiun. (Image in >>2333136)

The reason for saiun was LoS. For the other planes, other than the bombers not being spread out, they weren't put in the first slot, and even among fighters, they weren't placed efficiently; Reppuu should have gone into the 27 slots, even if you kept such a setup. 15.2 is pretty weak; it's only really useful if it's an upgraded 15.2 kai, and there are better things to upgrade.

TCI is best used in conjunction with searchlight, flares and the like. So the usual TCI setup is actually 2 torps + flare/searchlight.

The named Hayabusa squadrons can also reach the boss. Then again the only one available right now is an E3甲 reward; you need to clear E5 for the other one. Zero M21s work too, but you also have to take into account how many land attackers are available, since the T96 recipe is pretty expensive.

Finally, in this case, I'd go with Bep in the last slot since her modifier (x1.5) is higher than the 5th fleet's (x1.2).

For Abukuma, DA or TCI is fine. If you use TCI, then you can choose to put her in flagship spot and bump the first 4 ships down. If you use DA, then put a skilled lookout on Kasumi instead of a searchlight.

I can't comment much on whether Kitakami/Ooi or Kiso would be better here, but in any case DA on them is better.

I also noticed that Hatsuzuki's setup is totally wrong. You mixed up HA guns and AA guns? Either way, since you already have Kasumi and Bep, you have enough DDs for the escort fleet, so Maya Kai 2 would be better here. FuMO is available as Prinz Eugen Kai stock equipment. As for the HA guns I already scrapped all my 12.7 HAs but any two secondary HA guns will work here. Just make sure they're not AA guns this time (the one in the extra slot is enough).

As for the TCI thing I'd actually forgotten about that; I never use it with searchlight because the ship with it is usually pinch-hitter and I don't want to draw fire to her, and I don't have any star shells; I would doubt the player in trouble has them either since they're locked behind three specific kai ni. Usually I use Skilled Lookouts, but that's also not that common an equip.


Connection errors seem to be cause by long posts, by the way. Try breaking it up.

CAs don't gain any fit bonus from 15.2 and compared to 20.3(2) you lose 5 firepower for 2 accuracy. You could make a case for CL(T)s since they do gain a fit bonus but it gives diminishing returns so equip 1 on each CL at most. And even then most people still ditch the 15.2s anyway. Now if it's 15.2 kai, it's a different story, but those aren't worth spamming screws on. By the way, for 20.3s, their accuracy bonus on CAs only applies at night and not in the day, so I'm not sure it's that worth it on Nachi to swap out a 20.3(2) for a normal 20.3.

TCI with searchlight still works fine if placed on either of the first 2 ships. Flares are hardly uncommon stock equipment too; Ayanami and Sendai give those at kai 2, and they're among the very first ships recommended to level early on, so having at least 2 flares is the norm rather than the exception.

Forgot this. While it's important to put strong ships at the back, you also want a strong first strike to have a chance to take out the boss before she can attack. Since last kill has 1 BB hime (2 in 甲), the 2nd strike (and 3rd for 甲) shouldn't be weak too. Hatsuzuki's best put in 3rd/4th, though honestly I think Maya works better here.

Not everyone reads those levelling recommendations, though, and even if you do there's a pretty good chance you might focus on someone else first like Abukuma, Shigure or Isuzu (and then if you're like me, forget to ever go back). I'm so thinking about using all three of my airbases to attack the boss, but I'd probably have to reassign most if not all of my Reppu to LBAS since I think those are the only fighters I have with the range.

Placement of ships is important because while the target choice is random, the ones at the top fire first so by the time you get to the bottom there's usually less targets left alive.

As a general rule strongest ships at the top for main fleet and bottom for escort fleet, with the exception of FCF main fleet flagship (usually you use a CV(L) or sometimes Maya rather than waste the BB AP shell slot) and torp cutin escort flagship.

The main fleet first shelling is by range, but the second shelling is top to bottom. Ideally you want to take out as many ships as possible before they can shoot back so you want the stronger ships hitting first so you put them on top. If you have pure fighter CVs they always go to the bottom for this reason, because they still take up a slot in the turn order despite doing nothing.

For the escort fleet its the opposite, its always top to bottom and you're going for the kill so you save your strongest attacks for last hoping they hit the boss rather than get wasted on escorts. The exception is the flagship, it gets cut in bonus so I usually put one CI ship (abkm most of the time) there.

Actually, CV(L)s with 0 bombers for any reason (shot down, none equipped) have their turn in their shelling phase skipped. For example if you have Reppuu mule CVL in flagship spot with 3 greens 1 FCF equipped and the 2nd spot is a BB with artillery spotting, the second shelling phase will start with your BB attacking.

Route: A-E-F-J-N-O-T

From this setup, you can do one of two things (or neither, if you prefer):
-move Abukuma to the flagship spot and bump the first 4 down 1 place; or
-replace Abukuma's torps with 20.3(2) guns, give Kasumi quint/quint/searchlight or quint/quint/skilled lookout (Takanami Kai stock equipment, level 30) and move Abukuma to 3rd and bump the two CLTs down 1 place.

If this doesn't give enough LoS first switch out Nachi's flare for a T0 recon. If that's still not enough then switch out one of Maya's AA guns for another T0 recon. If that's still not enough then switch out Bep's flare for either a T22 or T13 radar (either will do).

Also reminder to level more ships and get more important equipment after you're done with this event. The sub node B can be accessed with suijou; you can grind DDs and other ships there with ASW equipment. Bring OASW ships if you grind there; it's best done with at least 3 OASW ships in the escort fleet so you can bring Kitakami, Ooi and Isuzu for example (just take off the midget subs).

Here's a fleet I'm using now based of some of the feedback in the thread. Closest I've come to sinking the boss.

I don't get how to trigger night torpedo cut-ins. I'm reading in some places that I need 2x torpedoes + kou, and other say that you can use 2x red or yellow gun + kou

I'm seriously confused.

You need 2 torps for torpedo cut-in. Its proc rate is dependent on the ship's luck stat. 2 red/yellow guns is double attack. For the most part double attack is enough for CLTs.

Nagato kai ni is just a lesser version of hotel. Slightly stronger and consumes slightly less than Iowa, in exchange for slow speed instead of fast. I have no idea why they allowed her to equip shit like daihatsu and tanks but really if it's soft installations any old BB with sanshiki works and if it's non-soft installations then AP shell setup is more well-rounded; Fusous can do the job with WG42.

Depends on how smartly you play. Oldfags who start new accounts for whatever reason can clear all maps on 甲 right away regardless of the event's difficulty. Even total newbies can do the same for easier events.

Even so, there's no way you're going to get AS+ at the first air raid node. If you must have fighter power, swap the Ryuusei on Zuikaku for a third Reppuu, but any more fighters won't help you one bit. And of course the point of bombers being in the first slot stays.
