Simple, because it shows the character moves on. While occasionally there's value to showing a character in an unrequited love role like Sayaka clinging to said love past what's reasonable, given Sayaka's backstory and her relatively modest displays of affections so far, I don't think that would be particularly more in character than getting over her crush on Touko, which even before knowing about Yuu she already recognizes as fruitless.

Obviously when you have a character spend 95% of a work lusting after one character only to randomly switch gears at the end and like someone else it looks retarded. But there's nothing wrong with a slow switch. In fact, I don't get why someone in Sayaka's position should spend large amounts of time pining after such a love at all, especially given how unhealthy Touko's entire situation is.

Besides which, while we know plenty of reasons why she's friends with Touko and qualities that make Touko appealing, from the way it's presented in her flashback she basically just fell in love with Touko at first sight, for completely superficial reasons (looks and presence - the latter which she knows by now was all an act). Which is fine, but hardly a great sign of a deep, everlasting love by itself. It would hardly be weird for Sayaka to get over her.

I think it's painfully obvious that this story cant end without Touko being fixed in someway with regards to her attitude towards love.

At the current progression, Yuu is bound to slip up and put doubts into Touko's head, maybe even causing her stress.

This is where the play comes in.

I guarantee you that Sayaka will catch on to the change in Touko's mentality and will do some improvision with her lines or act during the play to calm Touko down and make Touko realize that Sayaka is the one that understands her the best, even though she has always kept a distance with Sayaka.

Sayaka is winning the Toukobowl ladies, because there is no way Nakatani would make Yuu the one to "fix" Touko.

In the end neither Sayaka nor Yuu are doing ANYTHING to try and help Touko get past her issues, not that it's necessarily their place either. But Sayaka at least appreciates what Touko is doing (isn't 'working hard to turn an ideal into reality' the perfect description of Touko's efforts?) and acknowledges the work Touko puts into that as admirable even if misguided. Even if the reasons she's doing it aren't healthy, being outgoing, smart, hard-working, friendly, etc is hardly a bad thing. And since Touko herself prefers a Sayaka who doesn't pry or try and help her, it would be hypocritical to criticize Sayaka for maintaining the status quo rather than butt in when neither Touko's actual girlfriend who she loves, nor her family, can shake her determination. What hope would Sayaka have? Better to support her as best she can. Once the catalyst for Touko's world flipping upside down again arrives (as it inevitably will), and this status quo is no longer sustainable, is when we will see what Sayaka is made of.

This thread is driving me up the wall.

Sayaka is not going to "win", because Yuu is the protagonist of the fucking story, and everything about the tone and structure of the storytelling so far does not indicate she is going to eventually have a tragic romance failure ending. It's not even about the characters, it's about how the narrative arcs are structured, how foreshadowing works, how narrative build up and payoff are constructed. I know this is just going to get a bunch of replies going "but but but x y and z things indicate my reading is correct!" and hey, you know what, maybe this manga will actually pull a massive plot twist later on. But the chapters we have so far do not indicate that outcome without a plot twist or major re-direction of character.

If you think Sayaka is cute and perfect, fine, nobody needs to get on your case about that. But can we please drop the shipping war until the twist actually hits, if it does at all?

Touko chose Sayaka for comfort in the end of this chapter out of fear of 'using up' Yuu's kindness. I think during that she will start having some feelings for Sayaka during her emotional turmoil when Sayaka tells her that she loves Touko anyway like how she passionately pursued the ideal of her perfect sister.

Just as we had Yuu 'bloom into' Touko, we might soon see Touko 'bloom into' Sayaka.

What remains after that is for Sayaka to 'bloom into' Yuu, while Maki can 'bloom into' Doujima-kun. Maybe even Akari and basketball captain 'bloom into' each other, but that might be stretching it.

Her talking with Sayaka about her sister is certainly a turning point, but I wouldn’t exactly put that into the same category.
