This is probably the fluffiest yuri manga I've read.

I even bought digital copies of it, since scanlations weren't up to date, and I seriously needed more of it.

What does /u/ think of Futaribeya (A Room for Two)?

Unless it goes full yuri after volume 3, then I think >>2298892 is partially correct, and I say partially because I wouldn't refer to the events in the story as "fucking nothing", since the relaxed atmosphere this story has is quite nice.

Kasumi said she wants to become Sakurako's wife in front of Sakurako's mom, who immediately said okay to it.

Sakurako said she wants to have Kasumi's baby with the help of ISP

She looks completely different without her long braids. Looks better than I imagined but I'm going to miss it.

>>2300150
This is cute.

Yukiko draws a hell of a lot more color art for this than any other author does for their manga. Shows how much she loves the characters. All of it should go up on dynasty so we don't lose it.
>>
>>2300285
Honestly, she looks so much better with long hair.

>>2300280
They graduated the same chapter when they moved out of the dorms. They were looking for a new apartment and told the clerk they are looking for a one-room one-bed apartment. Even the clerk was commenting how unusual that was.

Later when they inspected the new apt, Kasumi said that it is way more spacious than the dorms were, so they should buy two new separate beds so they will have more space when sleeping.

Sakurako let out a smile and said
>That's no good.
>>
>>2300145

Oh please, I want to bear your child can mean anything.
>>
>>2299960
There's a kiss in vol2's "back-under-cover", one in vol3's extra and I'm pretty sure I saw another one other than the drunk one.
But I don't see why the number of kisses is so important to decide if it's yuri or not. There are a lot of yuri series where the two girls kiss less or didn't kiss at all, still I see people saying "no kiss = no yuri" only for Futaribeya.

These two are doing a lot of gay things since the first volume, hugging, holding hands, sleeping together, hickeys, shopping like a married couple, imagining their wedding and even talking about it with siblings and parents, and now even wanting to have a child together. Plus all the gay af art by the author. How can this not to be yuri? It's gayer than 90% of the stuff on Yuri Hime.

>>2300126
I fucking love this series but this is a no-no. still cute af anyway
>>
>>2300313

That candy swap joke also pretty much implied they were used to frenching each other.
...I think short hair Sakurako is cuter than braids version.
>>
>>2300313
Where can I see the raws?
>>
>>2300313
>It's gayer than 90% of the stuff on Yuri Hime.
Please don't spread this bullshit idea about YH.

More than half of the YH serializations that are current or finished in the most recent issue have had kisses clearly motivated romantically, and most of the others have so far at least one girl with clear romantic feelings for a girl. And all 3 one shots in the latest issue ended with the characters definitely dating.
>>
>>2300335
Kissing and dating in the last chapter is not nearly close to all the gay stuff happening in Futaribeya. And Futaribeya is also cuter and has better art
>>
>>2300387
>>2300335
>My [s]penis[/s] breasts are bigger than yours!
The fuck people. The original debate was about that Futaribeya is not yuri. It has been pointed out that it is. End of story.

No need to drag YH titles into the discussion, because they are yuri too.

Can we go back discussing lesbians sharing rooms? Are there any chances for an English release?
>>
>>2300387
Unfortunately Futaribeya has a weird unrealistic aspect to the way it treats the relationship, rather than like you can trust it that they're supposed to be lovers. This is something that YH isn't guilt of.
>>
>>2300387
I'm not a fan of Yuri Hime, but please stop that bullshit.
>"Isn't The Moon Beautiful" - married yuri couple from start.
>"Citrus" - incest yuri; sisters started dating in vol 4.
>"2DK, G-Pen, Alarm Clock" gaymeter in vol 4 went from 1 to 8. Actually that was a shock form me. I didn't expect any actual yuri in this series.
>"Netsuzou Trap" - ecchi yuri with het for brainless.
>"Tachibanakan -ToLie- Triangle" - ecchi triangle love yuri for brainless.
>"Now Loading..." - New Game with lesbians
>"Demilife" - yuri harem with monstergirls.
>"Secret Crash on My Sister" - that title says it all

Of course there are series with "yuri" like Futaribeya. Yuru Yuri for example.
>>
>>2300416
>Actually that was a shock form me. I didn't expect any actual yuri in this series.
It wouldn't be a shock to anyone reading the series and understanding it. That the protagonist was a lesbian had been long treated as something the reader was supposed to know.
>>
>>2300416
>Of course there are series with "yuri" like Futaribeya. Yuru Yuri for example.
I wouldn't say they're in the same category. Yuru Yuri has girls who are into other girls from the very start, it just isn't mutual (or in the one case that it is, they're both in denial).
>>
>>2300426
a lesbian character and lesbian happenings are two separate things though
>>
>yuri is only in bonus material and not the main story
For what raisin?
>>
>>2300404
>Futaribeya is not yuri
The author says it's yuri. There's nothing to argue about.
>>
>>2300453
it is still weird that the most overtly romantic art of them is confined to extras though.
>>
>>2300457
Why not?
>>
>>2300414
>unrealistic aspect to the way it treats the relationship
But almost all Japanese media depicts unrealistic relationships. The title never promised us realism.

>This is something that YH isn't guilt of.
HAH. Sorry, I didn't know you were trolling there, mate. Carry on.
>>
>>2300519
I wasn't saying YH is all realistic relationships. I meant only that it isn't guilty of the same thing that Futaribeya does.
>>
>>2300404
The author said it's yuri and it is also tagged as yuri on the official website, moron.
>>
>>2300463
well, like, exactly. Why are they only alluding to the possibility of them being familiar with them kissing each other instead of them just casually kissing each other? I mean, I still enjoy the manga, but I can't help but wonder.
>>
>>2300633
Because it's not that kind of feel the author was going for. You have Wife~Wife series for that, a domestic couple enjoying their unambiguous romantic relationship.

Futaribeya on the other hand is more of a Hidamari Sketch thing. The girls met, settled into a domestic life with no prior romantic intention, then they casually proposed and married. There's no dramatic moments of falling in love, but a peaceful development of two people hitting it off over the years. This kind of thing has its own tranquility charm and has plenty of het equivalents series, yet rarely seen in yuri (because muh "realism" dictated that people must freak out "but we're both girls!" right?).
>>
>>2300654
how the fuck did you get from
>casually kissing each other
to
>muh "realism" dictated that people must freak out "but we're both girls!"
There's like, one Wife-Wife-like series ever, the world is hardly overflowing with them.
>>
>>2300607
You need to learn to read. The person you're quoting isn't saying that it isn't yuri.
>>
I think most people who are saying it isn't yuri probably dropped the manga because it seemed like a story about two girls being roommates instead of a slow story about two girls who will eventually get together (like, say, Girlfriends). So they never got far enough for the payoff.

Either that or they want to read about romance in a yuri manga, not just have the girls get together in the end. It's really just about preferences then.
>>
I've been letting it build up for a bit because I rushed through everything that had been released for a while.

It's definitely a slow build/doesn't put the romance forward but I think, when it ends, if the conclusion is good its pace will make everything even better.

I do think it's exceptionally cute, though.
>>
>>2300656
I'm saying that not everyone like Wife-Wife. People like different kinds of execution, even if they are all yuri-fans. Some like explicit lesbian sex, some only like bait, some like the middle ground where relationship is subtly portray but still go somewhere. It's not like het series always have a kiss either (fun fact: the majority don't).

>>2300689
I answered the quoted person with the first paragraph. The second is a general post about the "realism" whining retards in this thread.
>>
>>2300313
>hickeys
What chapter was this? What happened?

I can't remember that at all.
>>
>>2300692
>slow story about two girls who will eventually get together
They've been acting like a married couple pretty much since day one.

One reason I guess why there isn't more sexual tension in this story is because it would destroy the setting.
You already have two girls living in the same flat, and on top of it, they share the same bed.
Add just a bit of sexual tension and the charm of the fluffy setting the author has managed to create is lost.

One thing that is nice about this story is that the few moments of intimacy between Sakurako and Kasumi come off as natural (like a married couple), rather than tense and awkward (like a couple of young lovers).
>>
>>2300720
This. I love it because it's the rarely seen comfy series where the yuri is neither bait nor awkward romance. It's so fucking rare.
>>
>>2300720
Well, that's fine. But it doesn't surprise me that people saw the lack of budding sexual tension as an indicator that they'd never become a (real) couple, and just stay in that sort of comfy relationship. That turned out to be wrong, but that's the feeling it leaves. So then it comes down to whether you need to see sexual tension in your yuri or not, and apparently some do.
>>
>>2300764
It's not odd indeed, because people are used to teen romance, whereas Sakurako and Kasumi's relationship is written as that of an established and steady married couple, thus no sexual tension.

>Not yuri
>>
>>2300414 (You)
I want to try to explain what I was referring to with that post because it seems at least one person has taken this the wrong way.

I don't trust Futaribeya such that I don't believe it's treating the relationship as being one of lovers. It's more like a manga about a relationship that has trappings of a romantic one but is instead a weird more-than-friends-less-than-lovers one. I'm not saying it's not yuri, but it's soft yuri rather than gachi yuri.

It's similar to Haruka and Yuu in Sakura Trick, except in ST there are couples who are dating and girls who definitely want to date girls, and what it's doing with Haruka and Yuu's relationship leads me to expect it is heading for them actually becoming lovers.
>>
>>2300828
You have a fucked up definition of yuri, not in the usual way of the subtext-is-not-yuri camp, but in a completely biased way where "subtext I like is yuri, subtext I don't like is not."

First of all, Futaribeya is not subtext. The author had stated it is yuri constantly on her twitter and the official website has a huge, unabashed 百合 tag on it. Second of all, if you don't buy the fucking books and read to the end then stop spouting bullshit what kind of manga you thought it is.

You've proven yourself to not be a moonspeaker. I got secondhanded embarrassment just reading what you categorize as "soft yuri" and "gachi yuri."
>>
>Last translation was in January, almost 30 chapters behind

Makes ya want to kill yourself, but at least it looks like the next one will be soon I guess. Glad at least someone is doing it.
>>
>>2300835
I have been reading Japanese for 15 years.

The Japanese accept more-than-friends-less-than-lovers stuff as yuri.

>"subtext I like is yuri, subtext I don't like is not."
I never said anything close to that.
>>
>>2300828
>similar to Haruka and Yuu in Sakura Trick
Are you saying that Sakura Trick is a soft yuri? All of the hardcore tongue insertion is soft? What's yuri for you then? Hentai level?
>>
>>2300841
>Are you saying that Sakura Trick is a soft yuri?
No. I brought up Haruka and Yuu as an example of another weird more-than-friends-less-than-lovers relationship, and then said something about why it's different to Futaribeya, in order to make a point about Futaribeya.

>What's yuri for you then?
Why are you asking this? Isn't it clear that that I'm not saying soft yuri isn't yuri?
>>
>>2300836
Where can I find the raws?
>>
>>2300848
See, on /u/ you are only allowed to argue if something is yuri or not. If it is yuri, you are not allowed to have any problems with how said yuri is handled, and any attempt to do so is interpreted as you claiming it isn't yuri.

What volume and chapter did Kasumi say she wanted to marry Sakurako?
Also, in which volume and chapter did Sakurako say she wanted to bear Kasumi's children (through iPS)?

Unlike Haruka and Yuu, who are just oblivious, I think there are a lot implications in Futaribeya that the main are in a relationship, it's just that the series lacks any sexual tension and never really touches on the subject.
>>
>>2302208
Nice, thanks.

>>2302215
I think it's more of a private relationship, in which the audience isn't allowed to observe their most intimate moments, but only given hints of it here and there.

However, anyone paying enough attention can tell that Kasumi and Sakurako behave like a married couple. There's no sexual tension between them, simply because they're past that, as their relationship, they way it's been presented, is already well-established and steady.

You can tell, for example, how after sharing a kiss neither of them act flustered, and instead act as if what just happened was the most natural thing, you know, like how a couple that have been in a formal relationship for years would behave.
>>
>they reference a kiss from vol.2's undercover in vol.4
>no such undercover in the digital versions (at least not from honto's).

>>2302215
What it did was it made it explicit back in ch 9 that they are not girlfriends. Instead they are apparently clueless about what the difference would be between dating and what they do together, so we're supposed to just be happy with that. They're still written the same way, with no implication they have moved on from that.

It's very likely it is an editorial policy that prevents the manga actually depicting a homosexual relationship.

You can delude yourself into believing it has shown that they are dating, but you're basically giving a pass to that bullshit.
>>
>>2302272
This.

I'm so fucking sick of yuri couples being treated as such, but not allowed to show the kind of romantic affection that actual couples do. Fuck Japan and their homophobia.

I love Futaribeya though, it just really irks me how not even two girls raising a kid together can't get a single kiss between them because it would apparently alienate potential fans.
>>
>>2302278
>Japan and their homophobia
I don't know if you've seen that Japan had made a lot yuri manga both realistically depicted and fantasy like. It just some yuri manga the artists want to leave it up to the readers imagination with enough hints. Not every yuri has to be "slap in the face" sort of thing to let's know it's yuri. Futaribeya is one it. Light-hearted and cute similar to Yuru Yuri.
>>
>>2302337
There are different publications and editors with different thinking. There's definitely going to be cases where an editor has decided they don't want to make readers uncomfortable by having homosexuality (stuff like that rarely gets confirmed, although there's cases such as Matsumoto speaking regarding Prunus Girl about having to compromise with the editor over whether Aikawa would be revealed to be a boy as the editor wanted Aikawa to be a girl).

Futaribeya has to be suspected of being one such case. It hasn't even really left whether they're dating or not up to imagination.
>>
>>2302350
>the editor wanted Aikawa to be a girl
Why? How? That's the whole premise of the manga.

Oh, shit!

You who know Japanese could at least collaborate putting the translation in the pastebin for more people to read. I can even apply to edit the lines in the manga.

Do at least the translation so more people can read it.

Do not talk about Girls in Boxes, they have been translating the manga for 3 years and the most they did was 12 chapters.
>>
>>2315228
>12 chapters/3 years

That makes it one of the fastest yuri translations though.

They translated chapter 1 just under 23 months ago, not 36, as you realized that anon was obviously full of shit. Unfortunately not surprising anymore since entitled ESLanons are rampant in a bunch of threads lately.
