Why is Miho x Erika so popular? I know Miho saved Erika's life back in the day, but was there a scene in one of the (many) different manga that fleshed out their relationship more?

Don't get it either, the only 'logical' pairing for Erika is Maho. Not Miho, who she openly despises for the series and still treats rather distant after that.
The spin-off mangas give us more Erika / Miho interaction, but hardly anything romantic. Erika even slaps Miho in the face in one.
