Ok, I have always been just a lurker on this board over the years. I am hoping that I am doing this correctly, but if not, then feel free to delete this thread.

I am so tired of reading Yuri or Shoujo-Ai that really have no progression in their relationship. 40+ chapters to see them finally hold hands, or its straight into the bed with them. I know thats to be expected in a lot of these stories, but where is the development?? I read a story a few years back (can't remember the name) where this poor girl gets hired at a jewelry store and her boss starts to fall for her. It actually went places, they learned more about each other, and it ended happily. Made me melt and giggle like a school girl. Haven't seen a story like that since.

Either I don't look hard enough or in the wrong places, beyond me at this point. So I reach out to /u/, do you have anything I am looking for?

Some stories do drag on because they want to keep readers buying their magazines/books. Stories will eventually conclude, but it'll take a while like Sakura Trick.

You have more luck reading one shots and the like.
>>
You're right, op. There's an art to piecing together a good romance in a way that makes the reader/viewer fall in love with the relationship of the characters are falling in love with each other.

Capturing that magic is rare because it's a slow burner and not one that reliably turns a profit. That, and you have to be in love with someone, or something in order to properly convey the feeling in a work of art.

Go read Octave

Yeah, I have always been looking for that "whole package" kinda thing since I learned of Yuri. Being married I guess has made me even more picky though lol!

That's Poor Poor Lips.

Try lurking the Recent Release threads. People will say if a story will go somewhere or not.

Poor choice of words anon. We're all aware of the anger Octave CAN produce and it's fully popcorn gif worthy. I think you meant 'is likely' or something similar. for the record Octave is probably my favourite manga about being a lesbian and I'm disappointed that discussion of it usually just leads to drama.

Like receiving dick behind your girlfriend's back? Just like a typical real life lesbian, indeed...

Anon saves the day again! I really couldn't remember the name of that story so thanks for that.

Poor Poor Lips was so good. I ignored it for ages because >4 koma but it was great and changed my mind on the format to boot.

Don't you fucking lie to me.
>>
>>2294051
Have i been caught?? But really i do have trouble finding something i feel is worth my time to invest in. Even Shoujo-Ai tags don't turn up as the main focus so i dont know why they recommend them to me.
>>
>>2294039
The stereotype of a girl forcing herself or being forced to bang a guy while in a relationship with a girl is the same dramatic crutch used by uninspired authors the world over who don't know any other way to make drama. It would be bad enough if it was just the moron's logic that she never tried a man but that made it even worse because Yukino is a fucking idiot and pretended like her gf told her to cheat on her. Setsuko was a fool to stay with that immature dolt.
>>
>>2294075
Maybe you should read it again carefully instead of bitching about it endlessly.
>>

>>
>>2294071
You don't seem to get that people on /u/ don't like seeing the term 'shoujo-ai' since it's a westernized term. While in Japan, IIRC it means something more like 'love for little girls' AKA lolicon.

Hence the call-outs that you haven't been lurking here long enough to have not seen any lash-outs over the use of that term, or you've only been going to the porn threads.
>>
>>2294156
Oh well, call me ignorant then.
>>
>>2293971
>40+ chapters to see them finally hold hands,
There are hardly any manga with yuri romance that are even that long. How are you supposed to get tired of them?
>>
>>2294036
Couldn't read it because one of the mains looked like a loli
>>
>>2294218
I understand, but you're genuinely missing out. It's great
>>

>The stereotype of a girl forcing herself or being forced to bang a guy

I wish this trope would fucking die
>>
>>2294156
Not to mention obviously typing like a newfag.
>>
>>2294305
Or just the fact that OP started a fucking blog thread in the first place
>>
>>2294023
Pretty sure OP just means "girl's love," not being a pedo.
>>
>>2294493
Like Mimika's love for Yuzumori-san.
>>
>>2294505
Yuzumori-san is definitely great shoujo-ai
>>
>>2294493
But in JAPAN shoujo ai means pedo, even hetero pedo. Why the fuck are we using japanese words to mean a different thing?
>>
>>2294667
It's a loan word which has been distorted, happens all the time.
>>
>>2294667
I hope you don't call cartoon porn hentai.

Not that shoujo-ai doesn't need to die, mind you.
>>
Shoujo ai is platonic love between girls, yuri is just plain porn. I won't argue on this, no matter what shit /u/ says.
>>
>>2294714
Enjoy being mortifyingly incorrect then I guess

>>2294714
That was like eons ago anon. When people only read mangos at Mangafox and the likes.
>>
>>2293971
Love Doctor is pretty good for actual development happening at a pretty good rate.
>>
Just like anyone would break down BL into different classifications. The same should be for GL. (I wish this was an umbrella term.)
Yuri - more mature love that deals with romantic and sexual relayionships. Shouji ai an umbrella term for girls love. But then you have to break them down more. You have Class S relationships which are the more freindly relationships school kids have.

Granted we do have Seinen Yuri and Josei Yuri... There should be labels for certain genres of yuri that can stand on its own...
>>
>>2294714
what about when 2 girls love each other as lovers, kiss, cuddle, etc, but don't have sex?
>>
>>2294904
Everything is yuri, it's simple. Why do you want to divide it just because some series don't have sex scenes?

"shoujo ai" and yuri don't have any difference unlike bara/yaoi.
>>
>>2294904
>Yuri - more mature love that deals with romantic and sexual relayionships. Shouji ai an umbrella term for girls love. But then you have to break them down more. You have Class S relationships which are the more freindly relationships school kids have.
All of this is wrong.
>>
>>2294904
Come up with whatever dumb categories you want, but don't name them in Japanese, especially if you're going to redefine the word.
>>
>>2294949
But Japanese people do this with english words all the time. What's the difference?
>>
>>2295235
When do they categorize English works by taking English terms and then coming up with their own redefinitions?
>>
>>2294907
Because we let special snowflake weebs make up this shit.
>>
>>2295235
It makes you sound like an embarrassing weeaboo and needlessly confuses people. For instance, if your system actually took off, there'd be lots of newfriends demanding to know why Yuru Yuri isn't a mature love story.

>>2295278
I've always blamed American puritanism myself.
>>
OP here, was too busy yesterday to come check back in.

I seemed to have caused a little conflict in this thread for being ignorant, but what else is new on the internet? That aside thanks for some suggestions so far, appreciate the help.
>>
>>2294032

Omg an experimental lesbian, the soiled forever mentality.

Why don't you just bitch about UTENA and KnM while you're at it!?
>>
>>2295323
No, she was a tool who cheated for no good reason. Fuck off with your excuses.
>>
>>2295330
It must be awful to be such a shallow reader that you can't even handle a slightly more serious romance manga.
>>
>>2295350
It must be awful to have such a shallow mind to think purity is the only possible reason to dislike it.
>>
>>2295352
So you're >>2295330? I'm afraid "this character made a bad decision so this work is bad" is not a marked improvement over purityfaggotry.
>>
>>2295356
Different anon.
>making a bad decision
Making a bad decision is one thing, being completely retarded and doing something that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever is utterly ridiculous.
>>
>>2295462
Yukino has some fairly deep seated issues regarding men and her sexuality, and herself, really. In that context, while what she did is undeniably stupid, it makes sense.
>>
>>2293976
I agree, oneshots or series with 2 or 3 volumes tend to be overlooked but there's less chance for their author to fuck up the story, when you start reading you know it's already finished so there's no fear of cancellation midway, and if you want to buy a physical copy it's easier to find and of course cheaper. My favorites tend to be 1 or 2 volumes long.
>>
>>2293971
Welcome to forever ago. Most yuri is alays like that.

Though I guess in recent years we've been spoiled a little more with mre blatant romance but older stuff is almost always a tease.
>>
>>2297864
>in recent years we've been spoiled a little
We don't even go a week without a new release featuring plaintext lesbians anymore. Isn't it great?
