I like to think Eli has a good deal of affection for Nico, even though they aren't necessarily that close. Aside from that SID chapter, there's the season two episode with Nico's family where Eli's the one who realized Nico would try to ditch them by leaving the store through the back. It doesn't sound like much of a friendship moment, but the way Eli's smiling playfully and acknowledging her shrewdness when she's there to meet her made for a nice scene.

Chika and Kanan were essentially raised together, to the point where Kanan says she and Chika are like sisters. The manga even shows they've been together since before Chika could even walk. The their family businesses also have enough in common that their schedules outside of school often match up too, and there's a lot of times where Chika and Kanan only have each other for company.

You is school friends with Chika and maybe Kanan, but they can't hang out together so much outside of school because You has high dive practice, which is probably why she's never said to be as close to them as Chika and Kanan are with each other.

It seemed like they didn't really get along that much at first, and was mostly connected through Nozomi. Eli acknowledged her enough to keep the Idol Research club for three years (perhaps still because of Nozomi's influence) but once Eli joined µ's they seemed to connect more. They shared a drink in pic related, and in the drama CDs and SIF stories Eli mostly went with whatever Nico wanted (when Maki was the one to provoke her) or is unable to interject with her (or Maki) when they're doing their usual banter. How do you all feel about the songs that actually mention males? Like Loneliest Baby with the "my boy" lines.

They're all good songs, but I hate listening to them for that reason. I hate to act like that kind of /u/ fag but they just really bother me. If it was by literally any other group, I wouldn't care, but for some reason the mere thought of het in LL fills me with the fury of a million suns.

I think Love Live is actually pretty good about that stuff as far as these kinds of shows go. There's no het in either the manga or the anime, only more or less secondary works (and the anime suggests you shouldn't take that crap very seriously via the waifufag pandering routines Nico does and gets mocked for). Some of the yuri scenes are so obvious they can't reasonably be called subtext, such as You pining over Chika, Nico getting jealous over Tsubasa flirting with Maki, Nozomi, and so much more in the manga.

Its made it better because it was done without any other characters they are normally associated with.
