Since it's not going to be that much longer until Echos comes out I figure some speculation on possible yuri potential couldn't hurt. The good thing is that supports are closer to the old games and not like Awakening and Fates so girls won't have a marriage support with nearly every guy in the while while having jackshit for supports with other girls. The bad thing is that there aren't that many girls and a good number of them either have paired endings with guys (Celica, Mathilda) or have zero potential for other reasons (The Whitewings).

So with that in mind the girls we should keep an eye on are Silque, Genny, Delthea, and Sonya. Which unfortunately isn't that much unless Faye isn't the only new female. Who is a Catria archetype in a game where Catria is recruitable. Goddammit IS.

It's also worth noting that Genny falls in love with someone at the end of gaiden, but it's never specified who. Hopefully she falls in love with a girl in the remake. If that can't happen then I hope it'll be a secret again since anything would be better than another pairing with a guy.

Also Delthea's ending specifically mentions that she stays single. Hopefully it can get played up for yuri in some way like some kind of Nanoha situation where she is married to another girl in everything but name or something like that. But even if she truly stays single again at least it means she won't get paired with a guy.

Lastly there is always the possibility that one of the girls with a ending with a guy might get a paired ending with a girl in the remake, kinda like how Lyn can get an ending with Florina. It's not something I'm counting on, but it would be nice if it happened since our pool of potential girls is so small.

I'm out of the loop concerning Echoes, but did IS confirm this or is it an assumption because it was the case in the original? Echoes may be a remake, but considering that the new supports are a non-negligeable part of the series' newfound success I could see IS reworking Echoes' supports to be more in line with how they are in Awakening and Fates.

It, alongside a few other things like fatigue were confirmed in a demo at a dutch comic con. The person playing the game said they were similar to the GBA games where hey are built up by being close to eachother and that the conversation was in battle. The original game didn't have any supports at all so unlike with Shadow Dragon, IS is actually trying to flesh the characters out. Weather or not we get any kind of yuri out of it is a mystery though.

Speaking of, Doom '16 is really fun.

Echos got leaked and as most would expect considering the original it is lacking in yuri. In fact Delthea and Genny got married off here when they didn't in the original. The fact that names weren't mentioned however is a blessing in disguise. Because no names were mentioned it allows a good amount of freedom of interpretation on who their partners are and no one could prove you wrong. Just watch me interpret the mentioned endings that wouldn't be considered yuri into endings that are.

The ideal 'man' that Delthea married is in fact a woman. This can be proven with logic. While men can be either good or bad depending on their noninterference quotient, or in other words, how likely a man will get in the way of yuri, it is impossible for a man to be ideal due to their very nature. This is not the case for women as they are ideal by nature and only lose that status by abandoning the path of yuri. With this in mind Delthea's partner could only be a woman tomboyish enough to pass off as a man, because ideal men are a contradiction and therefore. The term man was used only to trick those foolish enough who would take issue with two girls marrying.

Genny's ending is much simpler. The reason why the person she married is so surprising is because the person is a woman, this is also the reason why she won't say who it is for reasons similar to Delthea's partner hiding her gender.

And there you have it. So long as you're flexible enough with the facts you're given, it's possible to find yuri where it's not expected. But that aside you aren't going to find yuri like you could with Fates and should look elsewhere if yuri is the only thing you want because you can't interpret the endings for most the other girls like you can with Delthea and Genny.

If you want to play FE:F for the yuri it's the gay hack or nothing.
Despite the original version offering a lone yuri option it remains a fundamentally het game on all other levels. The dozens or so girls you can't gay marry are expected to all marry guys instead, and while you can choose not to that results in locking you out of one fourth of the game's content. The hack allows you to have these girls marry each other instead (and the guys marry each other) without locking you out of content.

Another thing to note is that Fire Emblem Awakening also has a gay hack - and had no yuri option in its original version - so you're at least not getting a modded 3DS for merely one game.

once you hack, there's also Rune Factory 4 that you can genderswap if you're interested. Dialogue are somewhat changed, but it's easy to forget you're a guy when your sprite and voice is the female one. It's a CIA file on the 3dsiso forums.

It's handy because you can skip having to play it through as a guy and then being able to skin swap near endgame (which is what it is in the original one).

There's only one person who does both the gay awakening and fates patch.

If you want to keep up to date (as in getting the new support convos when the modder implements them), then use the one in gbatemp. Requires NTR or Hans.

There are CIA files for the gay fates patch but they're not updated. Still useful if you're lazy and just want to marry your chosen girl and not hook up other girls together. Just cross check the change logs.

Birthright is easier. If you don't play with the hack this is the only game where you can marry a girl. More male characters.

To be fair, I thought there were some pretty big holes in Fates' story on every route, which makes Conquest the best in my book because it has by far the best map design of the three.

Conquest would've been a lot better if they'd

a.) tried to apply any ambiguity at all to the Nohr vs Hoshido conflict instead of letting cultural bias let them portray it as a one-sided affair that is entirely Nohr's fault top to bottom

b.) Come up with a better character arc for Corrin than having to regularly follow the increasingly ridiculous orders of a king and advisor that are very obviously trying to get them killed in order to get Garon onto the throne so the Nohrian siblings will support ending the monster's life.

Honestly it'd be super-easy to fix if they did something with that throwaway comment that there are two factions in the Nohrian army, one that is loyal to Xander and one that is loyal to Garon. In any sane setting there would be a lot of cloak and dagger stuff to try and remove Garon as it becomes clear he's lost his goddamn mind and can't even control Nohr let alone conquer Hoshido and put Xander on the throne.

Yeah, Camilla and Soleil both got robbed, and you can see instances where straight pairings are super-forced to allow for maximum breeding possibilities. Oboro certainly has a lot more romantic chemistry with Kagero than she does with Jakob, but she can marry Jakob and not Kagero. And you can marry Not!Tharja despite no other indication she's into girls with her other supports (Niles at least is very obviously bisexual even in other supports even if he can't tie the knot elsewhere) while not being able to marry Soleil as a girl...despite the fact Soleil allegedly prefers women to men even if she is bisexual.

I get that IS is just testing the waters for reactions before they go any further than just baiting and one gay option apiece, but still.

I wouldn't take the baiting and the gay options as evidence that IS was willing to test the waters with Fates. They were already baiting before so there's nothing new on that point, and the way the gay options are implemented points toward them being afterthoughts. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if IS had no intention of having any legit gay option in the first place, but following the reaction to Tomodachi Life they received a late executive order from Nintendo telling them to implement some.
