So, I'm a big Tales fan (game series) and recently, I got to thinking, yuri/shoujo-ai is really hard to find for Tales games, especially Zestiria and the recent Berseria.
I have very few images, myself. How about a thread for more Tales yuri?
Another image~
Rose and Alisha are actually really nice together, and after the recent anime episode, it became so suddenly clear.
Velvet and Magilou from Berseria~
I haven't played a Tales game since Legendia. I'm thinking about getting Berseria for Windows, though. I do like the character designs and the female MC.
I used to ship Mary and Rutee in Destiny, because I thought it would be a neat dynamic if the large, physically imposing character would be the submissive one in the relationship. Of course, then it turns out that Mary has a husband, but oh well.
I can't resist this for a second~!
I couldn't resist this scene either~

Oh man I was waiting for someone to make a thread like this. I thought no one cared.
Battle couples are great.

OMG TOO CUTE FOR WORDS!!!
>>2282469
So true. I wanna see all the Tales yuri that I can. I wanna collect everything! Especially from the more recent games. I'm working on Zestiria again, watching the ToZX anime, play Tales of Link (mobile game), and totally beat Berseria in only just under a week. XP
This. Right here.
These two are totally my jam at the moment, it's okay if I spam them, right?
Love the contrast and parallelism angle that ufo has added to them.
Who'd have thunk the waifu war of Zestiria would give birth to something so wonderful.

It's so gloriously amazing. Best part? Alisha got hurt, Rose got SO PISSED! I was cheering so hard, you have no idea. And the most recent episode had me flippin' out~!

Only mad because only she herself is allowed to hurt her princess. They'd totally have arguments that turn into spars that turn into actual fights. And then they punch each other out and it's all good again.

>>2282650
>>2282651
And something cute to top it off. I'm feeling bad about unloading everything I have all at once.
Berseria has no yuri. Just /ss/ baiting and some lines that directly shit on yuri pairing. (If I were a guy I'd be in love with you). Disgusting.
Zestiria and Vesperia are the best.
Pity the original res of pic related is lost. Pixiv artist closed their account.
>>2282657I actually like some het Berseria pairs and think the game is great. It's not bad just because it has no yuri.

>>2282665
Plus the girls are all great by themselves too.
Cropped the other homo pair out of this pic.
I feel like I'll end up liking Zestiria when I finally get to play it. It's funny because I love Graces and hate Symphonia, so it feels like I'm out of synch with the fanbase.
Berseria seems cool. But at least on the demo, the characters looked kinda boring.
>>2282671
Don't get tricked, the main Zesty game has no /u/ only /y/.
DLC has some of it but the DLC is garbage.
Most of the steam on this ship is coming from the anime now.
>>2282657
>If you were a guy I'd be in love with you
Be that as it may,the trip to Aball has Niko being unusually intimate with Velvet, and since the illusion is based on her desires, it stands to reason that Velvet may lean a little more into girls than we think.
>>2282665The only het pairing I'm liking is Rokurou/Eleanor.But I agree Berseria is great; probably my next fave after Vesperia. Leagues better than Zestiria at least; a shame it has to be connected to it. Should've stood as its own game.
>>2282671
My main enjoyment from ToZ wasthe fujo pair.so if you're not into that then you probably won't like it. I personally loved it.
Yuri pair only kickstarts in the DLC and when everyone got on board with it the anime amplified it.

I really like their shonen anime rivals esque dynamic.
Both of them are stubborn idiots who'd not back down from each other yet they'd have each others back at any sign of danger.
>>2282725
Yep, that's my favorite thing about them too.
Japanese fans on twitter had a comparison talking about how the Mikleo and Sorey are more pure/innocent like typical girls in yuri ships while Rose and Alisha are more akin to typical fujo pairs because of their fiery rivalry and aggressiveness.
>>2282736
It is very loosely adapting it and went full anime original during the second cour.
>>2282738
Good. So after I play the game, I have something to watch. Don't really care to watch things that are only adaptations.
>>2282738
Interesting. I watched the OVA/Episode 00 thing but didn't bother to pick up the main series because I figured it would be all hot-blooded male protagonist all the time. But it sounds pretty good so I might pick it up.
I never played the game so I don't really care how well it follows the story or anything. I just figured that Alisha would be quickly sidelined after the OVA.
I'll spam a little. I apologize in advance if I accidentally post any doubles, or what might be triples as I see some have been doubled already.
>>2282757
>>2282753
The anime has so much Alisha that people are getting mad at her for stealing the MCs spotlight.
Personally I don't care about Sorey and I'm only in for the girls doing cool things so it's all fine by me.
>>2282753

Rose and anime Alisha are pretty hot blooded. Main two fuccbois are pacifists.
>>2282758
>>2282759
I think they're making up for the shitastic blunder of pulling Alisha out of the game after a short while and for no seriously apparent reason. Even the guy in charge apologized about it. The DLC was the only thing to show for it.

What I wouldn't give to see a proper duel between these two. They had that dagger bout but Alisha wasn't using her main weapon.
They'd probably fight for hours on end until one or both collapses in exhaustion. Like that silly table tennis match that lasted three hours and was a tie in the BD bonus CD.
>>2282657
I don't get the hatred for those lines because it's basically the two of them acknowledging that they actually do have an attraction. Hell, Velvet doesn't give a shit about romance and admits that Niko is her thing.

Now that Alisha is trusting her into her home Rose will secretly steal Alisha's silken panties embroidered with her royal Diphdan family crest and sell them for immense profit on the darkests of black markets. Her stealthy assassin skills will help her to not get caught.
She'll be drowning in gald.
>>2283805
Oh shit, I remember I even have the perfect picture to go with this.
I'm trying to get into the Tales series, and I'm currently playing Berseria (I love it). However, I've heard pretty mixed reviews about Zestiria, so is it worth the buy? Also, what other Tales games (for PS3/PS4) are worth to buy? I already bought the first Xillia game for after I beat Berseria.
>>2284032
I played Phantasia, Hearts, Destiny, Legendia, Eternia, Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Abyss, Graces and Zestiria and Zestiria is among my top 3, with abyss and graces being the other 2
So...who's on top?
>>2284265
Its biggest flaws are in characters, gameplay and story. What's left to enjoy then?
>>2284268
Dunno senpai I liked the characters.
>>2284269
To me they were so freaking boring and flat, but to each their own, I guess.
>>2284032
Zestiria might be worth getting if you can find it on sale.
Tales of graces was fun enough, xillia 1 was pretty good at least for the first half, xillia 2 would have been a better game if it just didn't have some baffling design choices that forced you to farm at times and didn't have reused assets everywhere.
>>2284279
>Zestiria might be worth getting if you can find it on sale.

>>2286867
I would buy the Alisha statue if it got a rerelease but the rest of the merch doesn't really interest me.

>>2286867
I still wouldn't put it as some sort of bastion of yuri pandering, but I'd probably buy the rumored remake if it comes to fruition.
>>2287011

It's wishful thinking. You fell for the meme. And the VAs are already busy with other projects.
Can we keep this thread alive until the show finishes airing at least?
>>2289216

>>2287012
It might be possible that they will do a remake with both Alisha and Rose playable at the same time.
>>2290820
IF they do another game in this verse it will be a sequel to both Zest and Bers which takes place hundreds of years later and they'll both be dead by then.
Whoops, sorry for the long delay.
Incidentally, Phantasia was my first "Tales" game (the GBA port, of course).
It's too bad neither version ever made it to the Virtual Console.
Symphonia, Xillia, and Hearts impressed me the most.
But Tales games in general are far too similar to each other. It's basically AssCrad or Codfish.
Even Star Ocean 5, as mediocre as it was, knew how to change up the system and make the game reasonably fun.
Hm, not sure what happened to 148.
Here it is, sorry. Doujin is called Night of Farewell.
There was more to it, but it's not yuri.
Also, just to troll a little...
>>2290946
Reminder that them dying does not mean they can't be in the game
If you played Zestiria, you would know that in some very rare cases (coughplayablecharacterscough) humans become seraphim after they die. In that way, Rose and Alisha could not only be together forever but also be young forever. So even if the sequel would take place 1000 years later, again, they could just be alive as Seraphs.
I did at least buy Berseria though.
>I can't believe how you can act like such a daemon!
>Well we're daemons, what did you expect?
>Ah she's right!
Eleanor is a cute idiot.
>>2294633
Eleanor being Velvet's punching bag is part of the reason Berseria is worth playing.
So the only real yuri is Vesperia?
>>2294641
Velvet being all like "I-It's not like I give a crap about her or anything!" about Eleanor was amusing too.
>>2294895
As much of a fan I am of Rita/Estelle, and Vesperia in genreal, I think calling it "real yuri" is a bit of an exaggeration.

I wonder if we'll ever gonna get that one
I did play Vesperia on Xbox 360 already but I'd be first in line for the remaster with all the Japan exclusive stuff included.
I know Namco is super opposed to bringing it over for some reason but I don't get why, it's one of their more acclaimed games and fans have been asking for years, is translating the extras really such a hassle for them to outweight the money they'd get from steam/PS4 copies?
>>2297627
I'd put it up to being whatever deal they had with MS for the 360 version prevented them from releasing Super Vesperia Hyper Tournament Edition in the west.
>>2297627
There is a translation patch for it.
Is funimation ever gonna come out with the box set? I like owning physical things.
>>2302097
You mean of Zestiria X?
If so it just aired. Even with the simuldub thing they do, they have to wait until they get the Bluray cuts of the show from Japan before they can start putting together their own physical release.
Don't expect to be able to buy Zestiria X until this time next year. If you're lucky.
>>2302100
Yeah, sorry, I should've mentioned that. Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it. I haven't purchased anything since before the whole simuldub thing started so I wasn't sure if they could just defecate out a box set shortly after the last episode aired or not. But you're right, I should've realized that the BDs probably just started being released in Japan so it will probably be awhile. It's just that I have a $60 gift card that I need to burn and I'm really drawing a blank on what to buy.
>>2302110
The release schedule is weird, though. I mean, season one was released on a box set in Japan back on December. So far, Funi hasn't said anything about their release for either season even though the show is dubbed.

>>2308074
In Vesperia I never had any problems sacrificing Judith for the greater good that is Rita/Estelle if it keeps Yuri (now there's some irony right there) away.
>>2308196
Eh? Judith, while her fanbase definitely exist, isn't the main ship for Yuri. It's Flynn. Like, the fujos are insane about them, easily one of the most popular ships in Tales. Got their own little prequel movie too. Flynn is even playable in the PS3 version.
>>2308202
Technically Vesperia has no "main pair" at all, seeing how the game pretty much started the "no romance" trend Tales of has been following.
That being said Sorey/Mikleo is way more overt than Yuri/Flynn could ever be. Buddy of mine calls Zestiria Tales of Boys Love.
>>2308202
Maybe anon doesn't like/ship Flynn with Yuri? I actually prefer Yuri and Judith together myself.
>>2308208
>Sorey/Mikleo is way more overt than Yuri/Flynn could ever be
Definitely. They boarded the fujobux train fully. However Yuri/Flynn is still more popular, but that's not uprising seeing how they came before and broke the ice.

While I don't doubt that, I think the one that started making cracks in the ice was Zelos/Lloyd. Fluri destroyed the iceberg and SorMik ground it into powder.
>>2282825
Isn't that just you tormenting yourself with paranoia? When I was in highschool, I could only confess to the girls I liked with "if I were a guy I'd definitely date you" because it's the only way for a closet. And even then, the girls looked at me a bit weirdly, since it's an unusual thing to say even among girls, even among feminine ones.

Eleanor basically becoming Velvet's bitch is the funniest thing ever.

>>2308327

>>2282631
Which anime?
>>2310261
Gee, I don't know anon, which tales game is the one who got an anime a few months ago and is the one being mentioned in the post? It is a mystery.
OK so I read a list of episodes for Zestiria X and I gotta ask: Why the hell do they episodes for Velvet? (and yes I know Berseria takes place in the same world ect)
Wouldn't it make way more sense to make a seperate anime for Berseria. Or was Ufo not sure the anime would sell and decided they need to get some Velvet in it to get asses in the seats?
>>2310261
Wow, this anon is speshul.
>>2310349
I'm guessing (as is often the answer) advertising.
Even though it's an Anime about Zestiria, Beseria was coming out and since it's in the same world, they can get quick advertising for the game by showing her in the Zestiria Anime much more cheaply than making an entirely new Berseria Anime.
>>2310356
So I'm guessing those can be savely skipped?
I haven't played Berseria yet and I don't exactly want shit spoilered by it
>>2310359
Can't answer that. I actually haven't watched them myself so I don't know how spoilery they are.
But I was under the impression that it was a prequel to Berseria, though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't spoil something.
>>2310359
It doesn't really spoils anything. Those episodes adapt the second half of the game's prologue and even if it does have the same "result" how it gets on the game is almost entirely different.
There are like two major events there, but all those things are common knowledge for anyone that wants to play the game.
Now, you don't really need the episodes for the shit fest that Zesti anime is.
>>2310361
>shit fest
Considering how the game it's based on is I don't think there's any way but up. And considering they seem to put a lot of focus on Rose and Alisha that actuall seems to be the case.
>>2310365
>And considering they seem to put a lot of focus on Rose and Alisha
Unfortunately this is one of the major issues the "adaptation" (it's almost not one) has. UFO gave way too much screentime to Alisha during season 1 and then went and made the same mistake with Rose during the second. Other issue was trying too hand (and failing) at linking Zesti and Berseria. I mean, they actually changed the location of the final battle with Heldalf to make a meaningless reference to Berseria.
There are a few more, but those two are the most glaring ones.
>>2310370
Like I give a shit about Sorey and Mikleo. I can just play the game when I want the full fujo force.
>>2310373
That's also true. No one gives a damn about those two, specially the Anime staff.
Now, the anime is really pretty to look at, and if that's enough for you to power through it to get the few (albeit great) Alisha x Rose moments, by any means jump in.
>>2310374
Hows the action?
Given that it's Ufo I figure the action should also be good.
>>2310376
Pretty. Some scenes are really dynamic. Problem? There's not really that much of fighting going on in the Anime.
>>2310349
Zestiria was the anniversary game and had huge marketing behind it. The anime probably was greenlit years ago so they couldnt change it. Berseria was gonna release just two days after episode 6 in japan so they probably wanted to promote it.
>>2310378
Sounds like your typical ufo anime
>>2310612
Yeah, pretty much.
>>2309560
Great
Now I will have to actually buy Zestiria and this DLC
>>2311257
Buy it when it's dirt cheap on sale. You should be able to get it for like 10 dollars.
Don't expect much /u/ though, you'll only get lots of /y/.
>>2311342
I got both for around eleven bucks around two months back during a sale.
What do you think about this chart? I want to play some Tales, and I know jap, but some /u/ would definitely help in deciding which to go for. Heard really good stuff about the Destiny remake so that's what I'm considering.
I'm not exactly new to the series, played Abyss and Graces to 2/3. It's not like I didn't like them, just couldn't finish them. Graces was entertaining but when I got a bit bored of the great combat there wasn't much worth playing for. Abyss's story and combat weren't bad, just boring. I did enjoy my time with both though, that's why I want to try the rest of the series.
>>2295943
>If Madam Eleanor is gentle lovemaking, then Velvet is rough fucking. (Consent optional)
Whatever happened with the Tales of World game?
>>2314065
>some /u/ would definitely help in deciding which to go for
In that case, Vesperia is a must, since it's basically the only mainline game to have a substantial amount of /u/ between two party characters (pic related). And if you can, get the PS3 version since it adds even more /u/ scenes.
As you might've gleaned from this thread, Alisha/Rose from Zestiria is pretty popular, but they don't really get that much material in the game itself, which is more /y/ than anything. I honestly can't recommend Zestiria because both the story and gameplay left so much to be desired. The soundtrack is the only thing going for it.
The most recent Tales game, Berseria, has a female central protagonist and luckily doesn't have a designated love interest, but there are some goggle-worthy moments between her and three other girls. It's a prequel to Zestiria, but MILES better, from story to characters and gameplay.
>>2314357
Zestiria had some needlessly complex subsystems. The biggest offender I feel is the item skill system. Random skills on items + skill stack bonus effect + column bonus effects + row bonus effects. Firstly, since you're frequently upgrading your kit, all the work you put to those effects will go to waste. Secondly, the skills on loot are random so there's no surefire way to get what you want, except setting a specific normin at a Lord and hope for right kind of drops (read: it is a senseless grind). Thirdly, skill combination results at item fusion are obtuse at best, so it takes even more time to to get items with fusion results you want.
Looking at the steam achivements gives a good measure how many people have bothered to look a bit deeper than the surface of the skill system: Achievement for equipping items so all ten skills in a single row have been activated - 0.8%. Achievement for equipping items so you have the same skill in 16 item skill slots - 0.5%.
The GOOD thing is that you can totally ignore the entire system and it won't negatively impact gameplay. I've played through the game twice for achievements and there's absolutely no reason to spare a single thought at the skills. It might be different if you want to take on optional bosses at the highest difficulty levels (meaning you grind days just to kit yourself to a single battle).
>>2314432
>I've played through the game twice
How? I mean, I know we anime watchers are tolerant to storytelling bullshit, but Zestiria has one of the worst story I had the displeasure of playing. The horrid game system is just one of its flaws.
>>2314435
I liked Zestiria well enough, despite the rather pedestrian high concept ("Hero saves the world from the Evil Overlord", but that's the same Berseria uses). Enough to spend ~120 hours on first run to scour out all the achievements that are within sane limits of a non-NG+ run. Granted, a substantial part of that - and roughly one-third of level progress - came from completing Hexen Isle, which is the post-game extra dungeon.
The second run was less than 40 hours, and good part of THAT went to leveling up to silly heights so I could run through Hexen again and do "Bested the Worst," or slapping around the BBEG after he gets a huge boost from you clearing Hexen. NG+ grade boosts and carryovers really help to keep it short.
Anyway to steer back towards topic, Zestiria the game would need extra-thick yuri glasses to perceive any /u/ content; the anime less so as it actually stars Alisha throughout the run and generally features her and Rose more prominently. Similarly in Berseria it is hard to perceive even slightest of subtext between any possible pairing. Eleanor is probably the easiest fanon-pairing due to her personality.
>>2314559
>Hero saves the world from the Evil Overlord
Being simple wasn't Zesti's problem. Having a plot that, at times, doesn't make sense and wasting time on characters totally disconnected from the main narrative (Rose, Alisha) were. But I guess you can like that.
>Zestiria the game would need extra-thick yuri glasses to perceive any /u/ content; the anime less so as it actually stars Alisha throughout the run and generally features her and Rose more prominently.
On this, I totally agree. Alisha x Rose's moments in the anime are great. I wish there were more, though.

In Berseria though it states that people reborn as seraphs don't have the same souls and don't commonly retain memories of their past life. .

How's the combat? Looks kinda slow, like in Abyss. I'll probably give it a try anyway.
>>2315686
It's been a long time since I played, but I don't remember having any major gripes with the combat. The AI can be a little finicky though, I think.
>>2315686
It's slower (more animation delays) but more nuanced than Abyss. I definitely prefer it, even if it was stupid hard at points. GATTUSO...
When is the last episode from Zestiria X airing. I wanted to wait until it's done before watching it.

April 29.

this is my favorite

Oh man, if only the game could have ended with Laphicet and his two moms living a happy, adventurous life.
Instead they went ahead and gave me feels.
finally beat berseria. geez, that ending was just so bittersweet, i couldn't stop tearing up.
>>2317076
It wouldn't be even if they didn't. There's only one episode left.
>>2317076
The second season was basically anime original. It was never on the table.
>>2317207
Yes,she's now just Alisha's great teacher and understands her the best. This does add a great scene for Maltran but just one.
>>2317218
Honestly I felt that the Maltran deal was just there so that Alisha could get stepped on some more. Which would make sense seeing as the scenario dude seemed to have a beef with her voice actress and wrote her out of the story because of that.
>>2317221
Well, to be fair the anime at the beginning is basically Alisha's Suffering: The Animation.
>>2317224
Sure, but I mean the game REALLY went out of it's way to shit on her even after she was out of the party (and damn I didn't mind Rose replacing her that much, but you could tell it was like a last minute deal because you can still buy equipment for Alisha for the rest of the game!)
>>2317227
It's such a waste putting that many resources into a character that's going to be virtually non-playable (imagine if there wasn't the DLC) for pretty much the whole story. Skill animations for an entire arte tree, two MA's and all of the implemented weapon skins, equipment, titles all extremely underutilized.
>>2317376
That was Baba's fault. That fagot wanted Komatsu's pussy and shoehorned her. He needed to get rid of Alisha to accomplish that.
Zesti's production was such a clusterfuck that I'm impressed the game didn't destroy the franchise completely.
>>2317648
What's sad is that Komatsu got a lot of flack for it despite getting into the VA business because of the Tales of games. Well good thing Ufo fixes that shit.
>>2317677
Wasn't Ai Kayano (Alisha's VA) the one who is a big Tales Of fan?
>>2317648
Even so, it's incomprehensible to believe that this got approval since it's equal to throwing budget into a paper shredder. For every segment she was in, it would have done just as well if she were just an NPC if the plan was to throw her into irrelevancy playability-wise. Really, this could have all been prevented if she were just made into a second Maltran so that everyone wouldn't know what they were missing out on.

I think the entire cast was big Tales of fans.
So do you prefer sub or dub?
I usually play with japanese voices but I really enjoy Christina Vee as Velvet.
>>2317879
I didn't want to get distracted during the skit cutscenes so I went with the dub. The VA was pretty good, especially Velvet, Eleanor, Magilou, and Eizen. This is my first time listening to Cristina Vee pulling off such a rough husky voice, and I love it.
On another note, with did you guys think about the ending? After all the shit Velvet went thru, I couldn't help but crying. She went thru so much grief and pain, but in the end she still sacrifices herself and ends up spending eternity with her brother, who was the motive for her journey all along. Like a "home isn't always a place", sorta thing. I heard that Zesty/Bersy was supposed to be a trilogy, so does this mean that we might get a continuation on Velvet's story??
>>2319646
No one knows for sure if we are getting a sequel to both. Some people are hopeful for it, though.
Personally,I don't want anyone messing with Velvet anymore. Even if her ending was bittersweet, it was the best thing for her and the only way she could get some happiness.
>>2319646
I really like Cristina Vee's deeper voice. She sounds fine as hyperactive characters like Compa but her deep voice has a great edge to it.
Don't mind me, just the best Zestiria theme coming through.

Switching to saber only made her luck worse and got her shanked in the kidney.

You say that like Tales of protags haven't been known to break established rules.
