For original series, there are some very good series on pixiv but they all have piss poor raw, coupled with ugly af hand writing from the author. I can send you some links if you're familiar and comfortable with reading literal scribbles.

A few things I can think of:

A couple typos ("bothering" in the one above, comma after "you see" instead of period above, "artist" below.)
Ellipses would be better kept uniform and with 3 dots not 2.
Some text could be placed better (like the "won't" that's in the bubble outline, "you sure get cold" intersecting in the combined bubble, some text could be centered better.)
Should usually try to keep text sharing a bubble the same size unless mimicking style of the original ("You sure get cold easily" and "Yup" are larger than the other text. Could probably better position them if they were the same size too.)
You could have someone go over the translation to make the English sound a bit more natural.

No one said the character was moaning. The fact that you thought it was only proves my point: "haa" is only understood as a sigh for those familiar with anime already. Moans (sexual moans at least) are usually just squiggles with hearts at their ends, variations of "yan" or just "aa". "Haa" in a sexual situation tends to be just the character breathing in an out.

Hi guys. I bought peachpulsar/Mira's Cutie Beast Kanzenban on melonbooks digitally. It came in PDF only, and was about 280 MB. This doujin is already on sadpanda (https://exhentai.org/g/539246/cd346f2023/), but it was tiny (only 47 MB), and I can see fuzziness, pixelation and discoloration - specifically, it is faded - compared to the PDF I bought when viewing both on my 4k monitor. I want to create better raws for typesetting, to then commission a translation and typeset job (Mira is my favorite artist, and this is another longer story like Earth Girls, Corruption's Finale and Indigo Mermaids which hasn't been done yet, though it is more than 4.5 years old.)

I then removed the image exporting lock on the pdf and used xpdf to export images from the pdf, but despite using the -j instruction, I got a bunch of .ppm files that are 8 MB each and I can only open in LibreOffice Draw. I was just wondering if someone here could advise me on how to turn these .ppm files into jpg and png files and get the best results.

If you can't read Japanese well then you shouldn't be translating; work on your reading ability first then give it a go. You'll learn faster by focusing just on bettering your understanding and then you can translate with higher accuracy & efficiency in the future when you've improved.

To answer the question regardless, I only tried one program out very briefly, it could be kind of fickle but recognized a fair bit. There were misreads though and it would have probably been useless for most handwritten text or non-standard fonts.

Writing them out in IME will probably help you better remember characters in the long run anyway.

First of all I've got to say I'm a doujinshi collector, mainly Love Live stuff and ever since I came to live to Tokyo I haven't stopped buying. You should spend your time just reading them, not translating them. At a beginner level you'll undoubtedly mistranslate things which sucks for any of the readers of that translation and it will only slow you down in your learning because you'll be spending less time thinking about what the material means in Japanese as you think about how to phrase it into English.

It's much better to focus on improving your Japanese first to at least a mid/upper-intermediate level; to where you are quite confident you can understand the majority of what you're reading before trying translation.

I started a translation of Black Lily and White Lily. First chapter is 40 pages long so it may take a while.

For all I know someone else will pick it up and finish it before me, but that's fine. My Japanese skill it's the greatest so I just do some translations for practice.

Self-study is also how I learned. You'll notice improvements in your understanding and reading speed as you improve over time, gaining confidence in your understanding. But "translation for practice" is an oxymoron; translation will only slow you down in learning Japanese. Rather than spending around 50% of your time on English and 50% on Japanese, you could be spending 100% on Japanese. You may even create some misunderstandings for yourself when trying to translate things you don't fully understand.

Keep going, the best way to learn something is practice. While I do agree on getting a solid foundation of the grammar first to officially start doing translations, it's a good way to compare your translation with someone else's. Or get someone to proofread for you who can point out the mistakes you made.

Thank you for translating. I'm rather fond of Maho so I would like to do this. However, I'm rather slow and I don't have a lot of free time so this might take a long time. I think I will typeset the entire volume at once rather than post chapter by chapter.

On a side note, I quickly when through the translation/raws and I believe the last panel of chapter 8 is not yet translated.

I can't show the part, but here's the context:

Ichigo wants to lick Aoi's pussy, but Aoi blocked her womanhood with her hands. Ichigo asked to move Aoi's hands away and Aoi hesitantly moved them away. The SFX of her hand movement is おずおず meaning *hesitantly* *tentatively* *unsure*

These adjectives are too long to fit in the small open space. Requesting a shorter alternative, please.

They get actually attached rather just worn. Prosthetic ears is close but that kind of implies they would be replacements for missing ears, which they're not. It's supposed to be play on terms such as 付け髪, 付け毛, 付け爪, etc. but I can't think of an English term for that sort of thing that makes sense for ears.

Has anyone ever translated Mira's SFW webcomics?

She used to draw a bunch of completely SFW fantasy romance manga. Most are het, and I think one of them is vaguely shounen ai, but at least 2 of them are yuri. The het and shonen ai mangas are completely devoid of even a kissing scene or nudity, she has always been more of a fan of yuri after all it seems.
