Out of the four mains, wouldn't you typically expect someone like Kon to be the main? Kon's the most normal of the four, tries her best and never really had friends before. She seems to be a perfect fit for the relatable main character role.

In addition to the names of Chiya and her mother, arrows also appear as motifs throughout the series. Obviously the key arrow in this exam, but also the opening narration, and a bit of lore that was in the manga which the anime skipped (it's implied heavily that the subject of the lore tidbit is in fact Yami).

Aside from representing direction and guidance, arrows are common implements in Shinto rituals, and are also good-luck items during New Years. The arrow can represent "hitting your target" and thus, metaphorically, "securing good fortune".

Something curious, Chiya never cried, but at the end her eyes were red like the other ones for crying. And when she was eaten by Kurou she said her eyes were "all hot", so probably using Kurou's power damage her eyes a bit and that prevents her from using it constantly.
