Admittedly they wanted Shion and Kos-Mos to come off as sisters but it didn't come off that way.

I didn't mind Shion but the writing started to dip in quality towards the end of Episode 3 a pity cause it was otherwise the best of the trilogy.

Not actually but much of the official art work came off as suggestive and there's the aforementioned writing fumble, where they were aiming for platonic but ended up making it look romantic especially Kos-Mos and Shion's last interaction. Gave me a Kannuzuki no Miko vibe.
