I just find it hard to justify her lying to and deceiving Cocona for all those years, then being mean and demeaning to her for several episodes until she got jealous enough to finally start acting like a real friend. Because it has very particular and multiple characteristics that aren't the typical ones featured in generic anime. There are always excuses available. Sakura Trick is boring and unfunny, VD is retarded, I'm guessing Sasameki Koto was also boring and unfunny, Aoi Hana was obviously boring and slow. Simoun was weird and experimental or ugly, Blue Drop was bland and unexciting, YamiBou was weird and offputting, etc etc etc. I don't even disagree with a lot of these but you could say the same about tons of successful anime. Hell, I'd call YoI boring, generic and unfunny myself yet it sold gangbusters. All these yuri anime bad in different ways and not a one that was good, even those that were critically well received, certainly convenient.

Now sure I was never expecting e.g. Aoi Hana to actually sell since it IS slow and plodding and honestly boring unless you're super into character dramas without the drama.
