I had an idea for a fic once where the producer ran a raffle where they winner gets to go on a date with Makoto, who is pissed at the producer for doing such a horrible thing and nervous at the thought of going to dinner with one of her male fans. Lo and behold, a female fan wins the raffle and tells Makoto that she loves her just the way she is. Then they become a couple, and Makoto comes to accept that her tomboyishness is just a part of who she is.

That would be a great way to develop Makoto, I absolutely hated how the series treats her tomboyishness as a negative trait, especially because it looks like what is really implied is "lesbians like it so it's bad". I expected someone to eventually tell her she's okay the way she is and should just accept herself, that if she's so adored maybe it's because girls can see she's cool this way. Nope. If I remember correctly, not only the producer's argument was something like "well, for now you should keep being masculine so your fans can dream", but her character was also used to "replace" P-san that time Miki wanted to go out with him and was ignored (I'd like to ship them, but Miki is sooo straight in canon it would be difficult to make it work and not seem like she just sees Makoto as a failed man or something).

Sorry for this weird rant, I just want Makoto to love herself for what she is now, and I think being loved by someone who is actually attracted by her natural personality and look would work a lot (I expect too much from this series, yup)

That is a rant, yes. If I am remembering right though, wasn't Yukiho, someone who Makoto was best friends with supportive of her being whatever she wanted? I remember a chapter of the one of the manga where she bought pictures of Makoto in maid outfits and butler outfits.

I assume Miki would get over herself if she actually dated Makoto, and the catalyst to them dating of course would be Miki wanting to date Makoto while she acts like a boy. That's why I ship them anyway, on top of their dynamic being cute.

I had a similar idea, only it was going to be a crossover with Ouran High, and Haruhi who wins. It was mostly an excuse to write Makoto/Haruhi smut, but it never got written.

That's not what she thinks. That would certainly be pretty shit if it was. It's more like "I wish I was cute like the rest of my colleagues and that my fans would like me for being a cute girl idol, instead of for looking like a handsome guy".
