What is BanG_Dream?

A Bushiroad multimedia project that began in January 2015 and follows MC Kasumi and her band Poppin Party. The project started with Aimi (lead vocalist, MC, voice of Kasumi) and over the coming months more seiyu were announced, thus 'joining' the band. The last member to join was Drummer, Ayaka 'Hegochin' Ohashi. So far we've gotten a manga, 4koma, three singles, Live Concerts, radio show and three MVs. In April 2017, Bushiroad and KLab will release a Bandori mobage- Bang_Dream Girls' Band Party (GBP) with even more young rocking girls.

Is it like K-On?

You can definitely see similarity in themes. Both of them involve Girl Bands. Not to mention that like HTT, every Poppin Party seiyu can actually play their character's instrument on stage. It remains to be seen if any GBP seiyu can also play a actual six string.

Why does some of the official art look so weird?

They changed the character designer. Up until roughly February 2016, the character designer was Hitowa. Now it's Matsuko Kita. The change of character designer also meant a shift in art style.

That very Producer is the reason why Cinderella Girls wasn't that good and to say that is an understatement. There was also hetbait too and he destroyed every yuri in CG with his bland boring existence. The anime tried to make him the MC but in the end he was full of shit. Venus Project is trash in every media it had been. The anime sucks and the Vita game's online service did not even last for a year.

Idol Memories' anime art and CG are decent but everything else sucks. There is het where one dude is a crossdressing spy and the MC is okay with "her" even though she never saw the reveal in the end. Despite all that, the series is set to continue for a while. I doubt it will last long but we will see.

As for yuri, basically nothing at all. Sorry.

I am sure this anime is not going to be like those two. Remember the old saying, "learn to walk before you run?" The issue with those two idol anime is that they tried to do many things at once. They did not have a proper build-up like major idol franchises did when they were young. BanG Dream has established itself pretty well and I believe we are going to see the dawn of a new franchise.

Fun fat about Idol Memories. it has the freaking Nana Mizuki as the headmistress of the girls' school. You got to wonder if most of the budget went straight to her.

I did only the introduction event since I need level 20 to do the other one and I don't have any other card since I'm saving for the special gacha. But all introduction events are made for another girl in the band. All Poppin Party is probably Kasumi, but others band is another girl.

Keep in mind that the game does have a "player character", clearly genderless, that is a staff in the live house. But so far they only called that character in some random moments in the main story. I think if they would do some kind of pandering, they would make that character being the one talking with them in all individual events.

They also shout each other names in the lives, and the pairings are really defined. Like, Arisa and Kasumi shout each other name a lot, so does Saya and Rimi.

It is just me or the game is really like Starlight Stage? I mean, the UI design and even the BGMs are really similar.

I doubt they entirely intended for the anime to promote the game since it's still solely the story of Poppin Party, the original band as opposed to every other band in the game.

The real story of Bang Dream was how the anime ended up so unpolished compared to the game. Sure, there's yuri and we love it but the show has been very pedestrian. It took a long time for them to actually form their band or actually perform their first show altogether.

Now during this time they should give us something else to latch on. Other anime would fill it with character-driven comedy. Now there is that and that's good but sometimes their conversation devolves into the same repetitive topics- 'let's practice, our dream of playing there.'

That's not even getting into the animation. When it comes to playing their instruments and given the choice between 3d and 2d, Xebec chose the weird compromise of rarely if not ever showing it at all. For me at least, I'd rather see them actually playing their instruments in obvious 3d than not seeing it at all. For an anime, whose major feature is girls playing in a band that's a definite negative.

In the next episode, we finally learn who Saya's ex is. Saya used to be part of another band and played with them until her mum got sick in the middle of a Festival.

Realising she can't balance taking care of her sick mom and practicing with her gay band, she decided to quit.

A shame Saya did that, I'm sure Natsuki and co would be more than willing to move their practice station over to her house. That way Saya could have her gays, her band and 3 extra set of hands.

As I mentioned before, Starbeat is my favourite song. If Fuwa Fuwa Time brought me to Bang Dream, Starbeat convinced me to stay.

Although after this episode, I'll never look at it the same. Who would have thought Starbeat could be so gay?

To me this was one of the better dramas. You got to know the characters enough to care about who was involved and it wasn't a problem they overreacted over like certain other shows. Although at the same time I can't help but think it's unresolved. Saya's mom is still sick. What happens if she collapses again or worse, ends up dying of whatever illness she is suffering from?

The creators of Schoolidol.tomo and Cinderella Producer have created a new dedicated card database/community for Bang Dream.

Circlejerking aside, it seems useful once you figure out how to use it.

One point of contention though, I'm kind of iffy about how they translated the Bang Dream 'skill for increasing the time window.' Here it is called '判定強化' in game and yet it's been translated as Perfect Lock. Wouldn't the literal translation 'Strengthen Judgement' be more appropriate? I also know that T7s wikia uses 'Expand Judgement' so perhaps that is also appropriate.

I understand that they are most likely using SIF as a precedent for their translation but if that's the case it doesn't seem appropriate. While all rhythm games are probably the same, translating it like this seems to be throwing a SIF niche on top of Bang Dream at the expense of the finer details like the in-game terminology.

On another note, taking a closer look at both the Schoolidol database and the Japanese atwiki source I'm not even sure where the term 'Perfect Lock' came from. Almost every SIF SR card has a unique skill name even though they all fit into three categories (heal stamina/score up/boost time for you to tap) and that being the case, someone started using Perfect Lock as a blanket term.
