Oh, thanks. Funimation usually doesn't lay an egg anymore but I was surprised that the VAs for Izetta and Fine have so few credits. Which doesn't mean that they are bad, necessarily, but it certainly makes me think twice about buying the series when it comes out. The only characters they did that I recognize are Orsola and Fukiyose from Index. I liked Orsola's voice, but Fukiyose's, not so much. I'm starting to wonder if simulcasting lowers the dub quality a bit, if it makes it more difficult to book talent for long periods of time like that.

Atlanta finds out Izetta is still alive and depowered, and they invade Europe in force under the claim of protecting the weakened continent from Volgan (not!Russia) influence.
They also decide that one Germanian that defected is of no use for him anymore and start sending assassins after him. He escapes (or is rescued by the Germanian ace dude) and manages to contact Fine about the invaders' intentions along with the fact that there are magic leylines on Atlanta.
Fine, Izetta and some Royal Guard smuggle themselves to Atlanta, where Izetta heals herself with the local magic and shows herself to the country as the White Witch of Eylstadt, knowing that she's a popular comic book character and trying to sway the populace against the invasion.

Atlanta deploys a Witch of their own, using the information the Germanian defector gave them, but Fine (not Izetta) manages to convince this Witch to stand down after she shows her how the Atlantan invaders are no better than the Germanians.
The Witch then joins forces with Izetta. Faced with TWO Witches, Atlanta surrenders and withdraws from Europa. Roll credits.

In the after credits scene, it is shown that Volga also has a Witch of their own, and evil intentions.

Good tracks really made me appreciate some of the scenes more. Like Izetta's awakening in the first episode and that transition into ED. Made the whole moment more memorable and later even intimate when she held Fine in her arms. Fuck, I think I rewatched it at least twenty times.

The dogfight theme from ep.2 also stuck with me and now I'm listening to it while playing War Thunder. Also the unearthly pagan vocals during childhood scenes were great and fitting for the whole classical witch theme.

Unless they have something under-wraps, it's not really that common. As an example, Fafner just had a event on December (just like Izetta, months after its last BD went up for sale) and during it they announced a new Fafner Project.

Perhaps the movie involves Fine and Izetta's magical love child finally coming of age and rebelling against her stifling mother by going off to fight in the faraway jungles of Annam against communist forces.

I just finished watching this, and I didn't think too highly of it, even Izetta and Fine's relationship wasn't all that nice to watch, since Izetta was far too focused on repaying Fine, whereas Fine was too focused on her political responsibilities, that their relationship got hardly any focus.

I actually liked it when they introduced the twist about Sofia having been betrayed by the Queen and the country, which would have made an interesting change for how we saw their Monarchy and about how Izetta herself saw her own position.

However, that hardly went anywhere, and when it seemed we had got a new twist - it was the King who actually betrayed Sofia, as she was too powerful and he though she might become a liability for his country - the plot tried to justify his betrayal, and then Fine did the same thing by sacrificing Izetta (although, in this case, Izetta was the one who came up with the idea), so that she could fulfil her political responsibilities.

It's really sad, because ultimately, a pair of witches were used to advance the political motivation of two countries, in a war started by humans, these same humans being the ones who hunted those witches they later ended up using for power.

There's no reckoning on human misdeeds by the end, the witches end up sacrificed (because humans/politicians overused their powers), and the use of witches was ultimately "justified" by the plot.

Anyhow, even if I were to fully focus just on the yuri, as I said before, it was lacklustre. Izetta was far too selfless to be an interesting character, and Fine was too focused on her role as a politician that he relationship with Izetta was always secondary (in a way, understandable, but for a love story it was very unfulfilling, at least for me).

I do like stories like this in which yuri just happens to be part of the plot, rather than the story being about yuri, but Izetta and Fine's relationship lacked any depth to it for it to become endearing to me.

I agree with you on some points -- Izetta was a bit too obsessed with believing she had some debt to repay to Fine, while at the same time missing the fact that Fine no doubt saw her debt already repaid several times over, if not in fact never really existing in the first place. It's unfortunate that up until the end the two of them never really saw eye to eye, or at least up until the last battle.
I also agree that it's nice that the story was one that simply had yuri, without focusing on it.

I really expected her trying to make amends on that regard, and be completely against the idea of Izetta sacrificing herself, especially when the situations were somewhat similar (the King sacrificed Sophie thinking the other countries might begin fearing them, whereas Fine was forced by the other countries to get rid of Izetta, because she was a military asset that was too powerful).

That being said, I was not surprised the plot went that way, considering the show displayed some nationalistic ideas and of the silly type. Whilst I understand the idea of placing some higher goal above yourself, the story made it sound as if country was always a higher goal no matter what. One of the best examples I can think of was Berkmann getting the middle finger from Otto, regardless of all the work he did, and when he tried surviving Otto's betrayal both Basler and Sieg berated him for "betraying" his country, even though he was the one who got betrayed.
Izetta trying to justify the King of Eylstadt's betrayal by saying he was just thinking the best for his country was an example that was as bad as the previous one.

I don't think this is quite right either. What the king ended up doing was tragic, and by most measures immoral, but I don't think it amounts to him having used her. Of course we don't know much about their story, but I think we can trust that he did love her and didn't want her to die until after he died. I'll admit that I'm no fan of Izetta's line about walking to the stake herself (or whatever it was), either. The story's writing was certainly not without its problems in a number of areas. However, I can somewhat understand Sieg and Bassler's rage at Berkman, who actually was a rather terrible person. I imagine if I hated my nation's leaders, or if the one at the top wanted me dead, I still wouldn't be able to completely throw away my love for my country, its people, and the town I grew up in.
