Here's a small poll to start things off: http://pastebin.com/zwgZ8Q1F

To preorder a scarf please send a mail to [email protected]
There are no down payments, we just need to figure out whether to order 25 or 50 scarves so we want to gauge the interest. If you're certain you want a scarf letting us know in advance guarantees that you'll be able to buy one (or more!).

Please note that WE DO NOT MAKE A SINGLE CENT OFF THIS. The full costs of making these scarves will be disclosed at a later date. The base costs are 372.75$ for an order of 25 - 14.91$ per scarf, or 556,50$ for an order of 50 - 11.13$ per scarf. The only additional costs I can imagine right now are what's included in the poll and packaging (bubble foil and some cardboard boxes maybe).
We won't break even unless we'll manage to sell every single scarf, making this a full fledged money losing scheme.

As for shipping - all the scarves will be shipped from Dallas, preferably through USPS. We don't have any scarves yet so we we can't try to pack one and check the dimensions and weight of the parcel but it looks like we're gonna use USPS' small flat rate box. We ship internationally as well of course. If you want to calculate the shipping costs to your city/country go to USPS' website.
We might offer a budget shipping option but that won't include tracking so it's not recommended. If you want to have your scarf shipped through some service besides USPS contact us and we'll see what we can do.

The scarves will be made through a company called diehardscarves - it's the HD Woven 'model'. They're acryllic; the sizes are 60" x 7.5", including fringes.
If you're curious what some example HD Woven scarves look like the best images I found are these two - be warned that one is worn by a man (although his face is completely out of frame) and the other has a design with a man's face, hence the external link: http://i.imgur.com/7gusqkg.jpg

If you have any questions feel free to ask in this this thread.

Last but not least, I'd like to thank those of you who voted in the polls. Finalizing the design was made easier thanks to the data we gathered.

If we already sent an email about pre-ordering do we need to send again?
>>
>>2208999
Nope, if you sent one before you're good.

>>2208997
Like I said we're open to alternatives, please try to dig around a little and let us know what you'd like to use. Budget shipping is not recommended because it can lead to lost parcels and that would be anything but pleasant for both parties but if you want budget then we can probably arrange that.

Depends on where you live I guess. Men wearing pink stuff isn't anywhere near as a rare as sight as it used to be 10-15 years ago. I doubt most people would care.

Is there a cutoff date for the preorder?
>>
>>2209796
It's kinda dodgy. We want to place the preorder sometime next week for sure but 600 bucks is quite a bit of money, especially if you consider this is funded out of one person's pocket. As such we might just stick to ordering 25 scarves, as we had ~20 preorders (sorry, I wish I could give you the accurate number but I don't handle the preorder part).

>Just sent an email regarding the price
The price of the scarf or the shipping? Since we went with an order of 50 it'll be 11.13$ base for scarf + ~1$ judging by the poll results. Shipping is a bit more tricky, it's 6.80$ within US. We're looking into affordable domestic shipping but since we have no scarves at hand and can't even tell what the parcel size would be...
>>
>>2218659
>The price of the scarf or the shipping?

I just asked for the price in general, nothing specific, although I should have. If I have to pay for shipping, it shouldn't be no more than 25 bucks for me since I reside in the U.S. I can pay for it within 2 weeks then you can ship it when it's ready.
>>
>>2218662
Oh if you're from US it's simple, just assume it's roughly 20$.
Should've read the post you were replying to though, both the base price as well as US shipping were named there.

They're so bad we are honestly still considering switching, even though the order should be basically finalized now.
One way or another iff it won't get done before Winter then at very least at some point during it. H-hopefully.

No no, it's just that right now there's nothing new yet. The second we'll have fresh info it'll be posted ITT. The company we're working with is all sorts of crap and it's driving us quite insane but I can promise we'll get there eventually. It might take longer than we hoped it would but we're doing our best to avoid that.

But again, I promise it's a matter of when, not if. Sorry to keep you waiting.

Status update: there has been no news recently because diehardscarves has been absolutely atrocious all around. We sent them what we considered to be basically the finalized designs basically a month ago and things have barely moved forward at all since then. I can't even begin to explain how awful they've been so far.
We've contacted Ruffneckscarves to see if they'd be any better and so far they're responding to our mails at least. My biggest regret is that we haven't done this two weeks ago. Diehardscarves' HD Woven technique would be the best for us because the logo is so complex but trying to work with them has been a nightmare.

This doesn't mean we've dropped diehardscarves entirely. I think at this point we're just gonna check who will wrap things up faster. Diehardscarves had one full month of headstart. If they can't get it done with that much leeway then that's that.

As such the costs might change a bit. Hopefully we won't have to raise the price considerably. Since the logo is still a point of concern we might have to consider embroidered scarf, which is ufortunately the most expensive kind. We don't have the prices yet so that's all I can say for the time being but judging by what I've seen from ruffneck so far I think we will be able to tell you more tomorrow, or even later today possibly.

I'm really sorry about this mess but this has just been outside of our control.

Take your time and get the best quality, don't rush for an alternative that might be worse just because it's faster. I'm sure we can all wait patiently if it means getting something made nicer
>>
>>2241707
For now we wanna weight our options. It'd be a shame if Winter were to end without anybody getting their scarf, even if it's only a small minority that would want to use them as actual scarves, probably. We don't wanna compromise on the quality but we'd like to wrap this up sometime this year, and judging by what we've seen from diehardscarves so hard that might be hard.

The ruffneck alternative is not all downsides, either. It's thicker, wider and longer. The thing is the logo would be sewn on from what I gather, which might not be a good thing depending on what you want out of the scarf, but this is kinda subjective. The logo quality would be slightly better I guess.

Thanks for keeping us informed, at least. I hope things go better for us all at this point - it's a real shame that first site is being so awful.

I just took a look at Ruffneck's embroidered scarves. They look a lot better than the HD Woven Diehardscarves option. Also wider and thicker (no hetero) makes it even better.

Just my personal opinion though, maybe we should have a poll to decide?

That's the plan more or less, but first we need to gather all the info like actual dimensions, price, more preview pics if possible etc.
The good news is they said they could deliver the finished product 3 weeks after the payment so maybe we could actually get it done in first half of February. Then again when we started working with diehard I thought wrapping up everything by the end of the year (2016, not 2017) is likely so...

Time for a status update, but let's start with a rant.

We first contacted diehardscarves in (late) October. Needless to say one of the very first things we asked them about was the correct aspect ratio for the scarf, since we couldn't submit a design without it. After we asked them for the THIRD time they finally sent us a template and told us to use that when filing the order. When we secured that we started working on the design, which took us a while.

Anyway, after the design was done we had some concerns whether some letters won't be too small to read, so we looked up the actual size of the scarf to figure out how big the letters would be when printed. The scarf size is 60x7,5 inches... And then it hit me. That's an aspect ratio of 8:1, and the template we got was ~10,3:1. We shoulder some blame for not having looked it up to begin with but normally you'd assume the template the company sends you would be correct. We conctated them, told them their site lists the scarf as 60x7,5, which is 8:1, and that 60 includes fringes. After having that pointed out they told us '8:1 is fine' (it's certainly not). We had to change the design becuse of lower aspecr ratio, and we sent them something along the lines of 7,5:1, since we knew the aspect ratio has to be lower because of the fringes.

That was one month ago, and we still haven't gotten a word on what's up with the order. Apparently they're 'working on it'.

I wouldn't mention this if not for the fact that when we asked ruffneck for the aspect ratio they were unable to answer and sent something completely nonsense (3,55:1).
I don't comprehend how this happens. Are the companies completely unprepared for accomodating people who want to submit their own designs? Are the people left in charge of emails just this tech inept and incapable of asking someone who might know what the correct aspecr ratio is? It's surreal. I wish I could find words to describe what this makes me feel but it's hard. It just doesn't feel real.

The real problem with ruffneck however is not that they don't know their aspect ratio. We've been through this with diehard and we managed somehow, although it cost us a few sanity points.

Here's the actual issue. This is what they sent us when we asked them about the avaible palette. Apparently that's all they have. As you can see it contains basically no pinks, and we need 3 of them. We wrote them back saying we'd like to see the design they can make with the palette they provide but it'll most likely look reddish, which probably disqualifies them.

That company seems absolutely out of it - how they stay in business I can't understand.
>>
>>2243843

Maybe you'd have better luck just asking for the scarf dimensions instead of aspect ratio?

"Aspect ratio" is a term I wouldn't necessarily expect the tech-inept to understand, even though it should be a known term in the art world.

Sorry, I shouldn't have neglected the thread but things have gotten hectic for me lately.

>>2244275
I think it's because they're completely unprepared to accomodate people who submit custom designs. The form they send to their clients is pretty simple - they want the logo, team colors and text to put on scarf. Once they have that they generate 10 simple (20 if you count both sides) designs right away. I'm completely sure they just reuse the same designs for everything and only change the text, colors and logo and the process is possibly completely automatized. Afterwards they just expect to get paid and to make the scarves. So when someone says 'hey guys, that's really cool and all but we have a design already, can you give us a couple of details so we can adjust it?' they don't know what to do.
Obviously the majority of the clients they get don't submit custom designs so they manage to keep the business going just fine with the minimum amount of effort.

>>2244416
Well, that might've been one way to approach this but normally you'd expect a person who works in this line of business to understand what aspect ratio means, or at least be able to ask someone at their company. If they have a person in charge of answering the mails said person should have at least a basic knowledge of how they operate, and aspect ratio is one of the most basic things.

I didn't want to outright ask for the dimensions because the dimensions we got were off on the template (they really were), the ones listed on the page included the fringes and I'm not convinced the aspect ratio is identical as the size of the scarf, for a couple of reasons.

>>2244658
Sorry, that's out of question by now. We hope to wrap it up at some point in February but we just have no way of affecting how slow they'll work. We even tried taking our business elsewhere but as you've seen that didn't go well either. Maybe we'll try yet another company.

Hey guys, we finally have some good news! The work on the design actually moved forward, and by the looks of it we're borderline done. There's one last fix we'd like to apply to the design but it's small so if it won't go through we'll just forget about it.

More importantly, we were told that we're only allowed to use 2 fringe colors afterall. Their site says up to 3 are allowed, but apparently that's for large orders of 500 or more scarves. As such we'll have to alter the design slightly. The poll contains an image with two possible color patterns for the fringe - pick your favorite! Since we don't wanna prolong this any further we'll just leave the poll open overnight so you don't have much time to vote this time. We wanna finalize the order tomorrow.

I still think raising the prices a bit in exchange for giving out a couple free scarves from time to time is a better option due to its flexibility in costs. But your call.

But more importantly, I was kind of expecting the shipping fees to be included in the cost of the scarf so it would be a flat fee regardless of where it's shipped to. I guess not all companies offer that.

I think you're misunderstanding something. The company ships all 50 scarves to one of us and we have to redistribute them. As such the shipping costs will inevitably vary based on location.

I do know that. I was just hoping for a company that didn't make you have to redistribute them yourself. But oh well.

Anyway what's the demand now? Anywhere near 50?

>I was just hoping for a company that didn't make you have to redistribute them yourself.

Well the problem is we'll have to ship them all over the world probably, so obviously shipping costs will vary a lot. Also consider this, they'd have to ship 50 separate orders. Lots of effort there, and they'd be kinda sorta responsible for all of them. Pretty messy. I can see why they wouldn't want to do that.
>Anyway what's the demand now? Anywhere near 50?

Not nearly but I think we'll manage to sell them once everything will take off, athough it might take a while. I think preorders are slightly below 40.
>>2270697

>/K/ommando here, and Nugget Enterprises/Kommando Store/Ivan has some pretty nice /k/-related scarves for sale, maybe you could ask him which scarf-maker he goes through for future reference?

We did, I'm keeping in touch with Miles not just because of scarf making (but the other reason is actually scarf related too, heh). He did it through ruffneck, our second choice, unfortunately as you saw in >>2243850 their pallette is no good. Miles himself said he's glad he doesn't have to worry about all those pinks Since /k/ just stick to silver/gray and black it's much easier to get things done.
I'm sorry but there has been little progress lately. I was really, REALLY hoping we could wrap it up before the Cup. We didn't. Right now I know where my priorities lie and my days are only 24h long, so juggling the Cup responsibilities and scarf things (boy we asked them to send us files 2 weeks back and we don't have them yet, it's high time for another phone call) is pretty hard. Rather than half ass both I decided to put off what I can actually put off.

I'm excite. I'm going to wear it everywhere.

This is the final call for pre-orders. I have given the green light to the vendor to begin production. Email me NOW if you want on the list: [email protected]

Once I pay, the remaining scarves will be available on a first come first serve basis. There is the possibility for a second run. However, I would need to see interest comparable to the first run to warrant a second investment.
