While it's not mindblowing, this game is very entertaining. Great production values, artstyle, and creative cardboard theme.

I'm in love with Kirigiri Kyouko right off the bat. Everything from her design to personality to voice is right up my alley. It's pretty sad that the chance she'll have a girlfriend is tiny. I'm on episode 2 of the first game, and I feel really giddy when the computer genius gave this unsolicited remark. I was like "Damn right! Make her your husbando, so that I can self-insert as you."

How could any girl resist Kirigiri?

She never showed romantic interaction with anyone. In fact, her being in love probably would look out of character, because japanese writer are pretty bad in these kind of things.

O prefer to ignore everything about DR3, because that shit had way too much contradictions of the main plot, even retconning Junko's own nature that I take it as a shitty fanart, rather than a sequel.

DR fanbase is more about shipping than canon couples, anyway. There's a lot of yaoi shippers, so I doubt they would ever make anything canon.
Maybe that's why next game can have a female protagonist.

On episode 4 of the first game now. All 3 cases so far are easy to solve. But I commend them for actually making it unpredictable and intricate enough to keep my attention.

Right now Kirigiri is acting suspicious, yet the dumbass protag didn't notice. She's suggesting him bringing the laptop to the secret room so that the bear won't know. But it's the room where MC was attacked before, meaning that room is not safe. Let's see if it's just a plot hole or if Naegi is a serious idiot.

Ah nice, the 4th case was the first one where I didn't deduct the criminal before the trial even started. I was so sure Asahina poisoned Sakura as soon as they found out the corpse.

Finished DR1. The final revelation is cringy to say the least.

I appreciate the moral message, but holy hell, everything was painful to read. All of them talked so much without saying anything. Going in circles without getting to the point. I nearly punched my screen after "the worst tragedy in human's history" got repeated for the umpteenth time without making me care why it's so horrible.

The incompetent writer couldn't get his shit together to conjure a brief dystopian exposition. No. This braindead faggot thought the proper way of writing is to just heap a mountain of adjectives upon a random noun, repeating those same nonsensical strings for an hour, filling in the blank with pretentious taunting. If he were a character in his own game, his title shall be the Ultimate Tell Not Show. Or Ultimate Teenage Edgelord. "It's something very bad! Extremely mega ultra super uber terribad! Also I'm a one-dimensional Disney villain who caused trouble because I'm evil and psycho!" <- There, I want 1 hour of my life back.

Except for some of the murder mysteries and some characters, this thing embodies everything I hate in anime/manga/LN/VN. The characteristically juvenile writing tendency.

You have no idea how happy it made me. I always felt it was forced as hell and just a pathetic excuse to add another girl to the main character's harem (DR is not THAT bad when it comes to that, but there were a lot of hinted ships with him during the game, ugh). Mukuro has always been so blatantly in love with her sister, so seeing her being gay as hell around her was simply wonderful. It's definitely what truly made me stay until the end even when the plot became a total mess.

Yeah, Naegi is so bland and boring. His entire characterization is "if you think positive there's nothing you can't do!", it's easy to see he's just your usual optimistic main character you're supposed to relate to. Lol I wouldn't ship him with the girls even if he were decent, but his genericness and boring personality makes me hate het ships with him even more. He never grows up and learns anything, why should we think he deserves to date Kirigiri, Mukuro (although this would be a little hard since she's dead oops), Asahina, etc.? ...but I agree, she barely has any canonical interaction with the other girls, except Samidare in DRK - which I haven't read yet. I can't really see her with any guy either, though. Naegi is the only one she seems to like and that's because he's the main character, everyone wants him for some reason. However, we all seem to agree that Kirigiri is too good for him, so I will gladly put yuri headcanons over canon if I have to. Like, I absolutely love Celes x Kirigiri because they're both aloof, secretive, and smart, they can be pretty strong emotionally and it would be interesting to see how they'd act in a relationship. Would they open up a little to each other? Would it end up badly instead because they're too used to act cold to conceal their weaknesses? I think it would be nice to explore this, I love this type of dynamics. Looks-wise, Kirigiri x Sayaka is unchallenged.

Brain-wise, Kirigiri x Celeste would be the most interesting. I'd want to see them compete with each other in a series of deathly mind games and gambles.

Domestic-wise, Kirigiri x Asahina. Asahina's simpleminded, nurturing, energetic personality just scream HEALTHY COMPLEMENTARY for a workaholic detective.

But like other anons, the complete lack of interactions with other girls prevent me from actually shipping anything. The only time when Kirigiri acts friendly with girls was when she proposed all the girls to take a bath together, to cover up the fact they just discovered Alter Ego. Them acting in sync afterwards made me feel giddy.

Finished DR2. If I thought listening to Komaeda was suffering, then going through chapter 6 was ultimate despair. It's horribly preachy and full of plot holes.

At least this time, I found the core concepts of the overatching plot fascinating. Junko's plan was intricated, she properly anticipated possible interferences. But the mediocre pacing of the last trial threw all my good impression outta the window. That amount of plot twists was not justifiable for 3 fucking hours of bitching back and forth.

The writer tried really really really hard to create a "me or the world" gray moral area, but I personally think he failed. It wasn't gray. Gray is where an innocent girl like Madoka has to stop living to save strangers. Gray is like an alien like Kyubey treating another species like cattle to save the universe. Gray is NOT war criminals and sadistic murderers don't want to lose happy memories to save innocent lives who could die from their actions. It's a very black and white situation, and thus it was fucking painful for me to read the pathetic apologists' excuses. The self-centered nature of the preaching was awful. Naegi risking thousand/million innocent lives to save a few was fucking pretentious, and he would get executed in a martial court. This is treason and a public hazard, not a fucking game (lol).

In the end, it's just a edgy teenage franchise with a misplaced sense of justice and grandeur (not to mention sexist). I'll continue to enjoy the murder mysteries and the sci-fi mind game, and stop hoping for any meaningful message.

The writer also doesn't understand the concept of consent. E.g. peeking up on girls in the bath, Naegi weakly refused with "men's dream is great adventures, not peeking, and if they find out they'll kick our ass." Then later on he thought "even though I said that, I still wanted to..."

Your mileage might varies, but I personally can't call any male a decent human being if he doesn't accurately point out that "peeking is wrong because it's a crime/objectifying human beings/unconsensual sexual harrassment/preach of privacy and I'm disgusted by the thought."

Honestly, the only decent guy I've seen so far is Nidai. He's positive and appreciative, giving praise whenever it is due, the only one who doesn't discriminate, isn't a creep, never put anyone down for the sake of edginess.

When we read the spoilers to the game, there was a lot of adjustments that we could make to make it an actually good games. Even Kaede's death would make more sense if it was made different.

Since she died to frame the mastermind, it makes no sense that they don't go after the mastermind soon after. They should have made her realize the rules of the games (I mean, they should actually make rules to the game, too) and find out about the mastermind. Then in the previous to last chapter, she dies without killing anyone (that's what happened). Then at the exact following chapter, they ambush the mastermind saying she killed an innocent, so she's the blackened.
They could make Miu being the one who finds about Kaede being the "blackened", so she could have a breakdown when she discover Kaede is her sister and take her place in the end. (by the way, Kaede dies asking them to save her sister, but they let her die anyway).
Just discard the whole alternate universe and brainwash bullshit and give an actual reason for the mastermind to make the killing game.
And there, the game is fixed...

Well, I'm just giving up on this series. I wouldn't give other chance even if the next game is about an openly yuri couple.

Taking away from that is the fact that I too believe 1 and 2 are well written. It'd be different if Kaede were killed off near the end, and then we switch to someone else. I truly hate how female characters have been treated lately. It's always been like this (see: Sayaka, Peko especially), but at least there were many more girls doing cool stuff to balance things out. As dumb as DR1 and DR2 sound, they are very good. DR2 takes a lot of leaps, but in the end it all ties together with what was going on in their world. DR3 ruined a lot with killing off all the new characters, while simultaneously reviving a bunch of dead old characters and doing other stupid shit. DRV3 was supposed to be a new beginning to Danganronpa. It was supposed to have new characters and NO RELATION to the first two games or stories. It depends on who you work for. For example, Shu Takumi wanted to stop making Ace Attorney games after Trials and Tribulations. He wanted to direct another game called Ghost Trick, but Capcom wouldn't let him unless he did another AA game. Thus we got Apollo Justice, a game which infuriated him because he was forced to include Phoenix Wright in it. Basically it boils down to your boss and what sells. But at least Takumi put effort into the games he was a part of, he eventually spun off to direct Dai Gyakuten Saiban, a series which he is proud of because he's able to pursue old ideas which he was unable to use. Kodaka could have just made a game that was good and then hopefully not have to make anymore.

Apparently the entire plot is about the game DANGANRONPA (yeah, the game) that spanned 52 entries because it was so popular that people, bored because real life is boring, thought that making a real killing game would be cool. Then some kids that were fans of the game asked to be part of it, because it was cool or something, trying to kill each other. And that's it. That's what DRV3 is.

If that's not a clear "please, stop making danganronpa games" message, I don't know what it is.
