Does anyone else think Chika/Riko was influenced by Hibike! Euphonium's Kumiko/Reina? Both are pairs who become suddenly very close, use insults as endearments, sneak off to have a private romantic moment and have a subplot about developing as a classical musician.

It's not known when the Aqours Halloween lines were recorded, but Chika's and Riko's are particularly relevant when we take into account that Anchan, while in character, said her/Chika's costume is a mikan, a la Hanayo in the DSOM episode. What are Aqours' µ's ships?

Ruby's big into shipping, but tries to suppress her power level. She likes NozoEli, RinPana, NicoMaki and KotoUmi. Simple is best.

It's a shame that the manga's translation has stalled, because I really like its characterization of Nico. She's still a self-centered, lower-middle class striver, but unlike her anime counterpart, the hardships and failures in her past haven't turned her bitter. Instead, she's become a clever schemer who joins µ's without much prodding for purely selfish reasons (winning the LL would allow her to attend UTX for free) and is the one who recruits Maki.

Her relationship with Maki is quite something as well, given how Nico constantly manipulates Maki and is constantly using her to make herself more popular. However, Nico's open about what she's doing and clearly adores Maki, who in this incarnation is a bit of an egocentric jerk. They're basically the Slytherin duo, and I love them.

And Eli was a self-confident ladykiller who supported µ's from the start and only avoided initially joining because she was so busy. Umi was also a kendoka, much less neurotic and proper and adorably in love with Honoka.

However, at least in the first two volumes, Kotori, Rin and Hanayo are basically there just to fill out the group and offer comic relief. There isn't much Nozomi within those chapters, but she's like a completely different character. She isn't a pervert, she seems rather closeted, she isn't devious or even motherly. Being an occultist is a much bigger part of her character (she's the sole member of the occult club, which the others take over and turn into the idol club) and her main trait seems to be silliness. In some of the chapters she wears a tie instead of a bow, which is actually a pretty good look for her.

I really like the sound of this. Now, I myself do enjoy their tsundere-ness a ton, but the manga's dynamic between them really seems wonderful. They're still strong people with goals and opinions, but they're not tsundere about it.

I like jaded and bitter Nico though, what I didn't like in the anime was that her scheming and self centered-ness is given a more negative spin (I mean she can be more of the sugary Nico of the manga and can be cute and /somewhat/ able to get away with stuff) but her anime one results to her being a butt of jokes and perceived as a nobody and a bitch by the viewers.

This. Nasty, jaded, scheming Nico with a heart of gold is wonderful. It forms a foil to both the other girls (most of whom are generally always trying to do the right thing the "right" way) and the idol-Nico (in some sense she's the most traditional of all the girls as an idol, considering how much idols mean to her and how much she admired them).

There are multiple levels to Nico, despite the show trying to flatten her to a more 2d caricature, for lack of a better term.

Well, it sort of is that. Love Live isn't a serious yuri franchise. The lesbian undertones are there solely because they sell. It's something you just have to accept as a yuri fan following the franchise.

The difference is that if they're flirting with another girl you can at least say that you aren't delusional when you pair RinPana together. They like girls and you can take all their interactions as romantic instead of strong subtext. When you have one of them telling the other to go after a guy at least one of them is bisexual and if the other girl is pushing her towards a boy then you know that she feels that she likes guys over her.

Love Live was a dead franchise before the yuri and they usually do a good job of pandering to those fans. But at this point it's probably best to treat all the canons as separate versions of the characters.

Let's see the facts then:

>Love Live Sunshine sales went even higher after Chika confessed to Riko
>Love Live Sunshine is gayer than original and sold more BDs

The manga is less popular than the anime simply because, just like the original PVs, the anime has better overall content and better marketing.
Yuri is not the end all genre - if your item is shit, then it would sell like shit. But nevertheless, it is undeniable that it does heighten the sales.
