Nothing was going to happen this episode, it was just more of the 1:1 adaptation of the second-year drama (minus the actually fun scenes like Natsuki and Yuuko rooming together), which is now at least FINALLY FUCKING OVER THANK MADOKAMI. Hopefully there's a bit more Kyoani magic in the second half.

The next likely indication of where things are going is the Volume 2 finale next episode. If they are planning on changing things, I wonder if they might rejig the "I play for you, not Taki" scene and put it at end of the nationals instead, giving a yuri-friendly ending that still doesn't confirm anything.

She says she plays for Kumiko rather than Taki. It's all kind of moot in the novel since she goes to confess and get shot down in the end anyway, but the potential's there to put it to a better use. Minus expanding the fireworks scene the show so far has been REALLY by-the-numbers - hopefully they're getting through the first volume's material so quickly and skipping past side-character scenes because they have something in mind to spice up Volume 3 that needs the extra time.

I was referring to this episode's particular scene. I think novel anon means Reina said she plays for herself in this part in the novels too.

How has Mizore x Nozomi been yuri bait or yuri hating? Their scenes are parallels of Kumiko and Reina except without the excuse of adolescence.

If anything season two follows the source material too closely because Reina is a complete side character now. They even make a joke about how Kuniko forgot about Reina for the entire episode.

First there's the introduction (that I can't understand very much), then for the first situation they are doing a gag about ramen (that I fully understand), then there is the thing that interests me the most and I can't understand (precisely at min 28:09). The funny thing is that after this gag Reina's VA is super embarassed and Kumiko's VA is having a lot of fun. Then there's a gag about Reina rapping and I think I might be able to understand it.

Probably because the nips have realized that waiting around for your perfect, 10/10 canon yuri couple that kisses and aishiterus is never going happen in anime and is ultimately meaningless. Are Togo's (from Yuuki Yuuna) actions really all that different from any other yuribait character just because some production committee thought they would get more money if they canonized it? Or any other character confirmed gay outside the source itself for that matter? And it's not like their alone; several other well known yuri authors like Ayana and Morishima have eased up on what their definition of yuri is over time as well.

Using your goggles to enhance your vision to see what everyone else already knew isn't a crime. Don't get me wrong, being delusional when the girls already have male love interests is just as cancerous, but going too far in the other direction and calling everything shit is not a practical nor fun solution.

Not sure about who Reina plays for in the novels during this specific episode. All I know is that she does play for Kumiko, but then she confess to Taki and also playes for him. But this might be during different episodes respectively.
As far as Reina's crush on Taki, they have followed the novels quite lot so far.

On the other hand, they have removed a lot of Shuichi-Kumiko interactions.

I knew light novels weren't known for the best writing but... What? It's probably supposed to be her noticing her childhood friend is maturing into a man but it comes off as random and odd.

They really are removing so much of their "romance". I can't see a Shuukumi end at all. They haven't had a single good interaction in the anime. It's always awkward, minor, and uncomfortable. Now that I think about it, all music anime I know of have inconclusive romantic endings.

Because they might not feel like completely changing the novel ending by making KumiRei actually canon confirmed but it would also be real stupid of them now to shove a hetshit end down our throats after giving Shoe/Kumiko little to no screentime compared to the novels.
