i prefer ao3's interface. the tagging system, while flawed, makes it much faster to sort fics and find what i'm looking for. tag pollution ends up being good and bad, since excessive and shitty tags usually give me a heads up a fic is going to be garbage.

i only have so much time to spend reading/looking for fics, so i pick the most convenient option. have barely been to ff.net in recent months because it takes longer to find something i actually want to read most of the time. i haven't actually done any kind of real comparison on the quality of fics on each site, but i feel ao3 has an edge. quality is subjective tho.

on ao3, I go through one drop-down to select widowtracer. if there happens to be a wt fic on the first page, i can just click on the tag. if the results are messy, i search within results using tags to remove things i don't want.

on ffnet, I go through two drop downs, possibly select "pairing" and also have to remember to set rating to "all". in this particular case, i would also have to exclude OCs because the first three fics on the list feature them, at the time of posting.

of note, ao3 has 4400 overwatch fics while ffnet is around 950. so just on sheer numbers alone you're more likely to find something on ao3, for this particular fandom.
