Aside from the shoehorned Velvet stuff and the Jaune arc disguised as Pyrrha one, I wholeheartedly enjoyed the story. I don't think there are any out there which so perfectly nail down what the characters are and why do they do what they do.

It was good. Well written grammatically, story was intense, pulled me in. The end really got me. Considering this was happy end, I can't ask anything else.

Loved the immortal plot. But for those who read it, I have two questions:

1) That dude who wanted to kill Blake for being one of those who killed his dad, Ersahan or something, did he really betray Weiss or not? It was said the fake king Baldr used his weapons in Menagerie, but... what happened to Ersahan?
2) So immortals did not loose their immortality, but they lost part of their fighting power? But was that temporary or would Ozpin have later regained what he lost?

1) I got the impression that Erashan didn't betray her. I'm not sure if the shapeshifter was in Badr's form when Weiss was attacked, but the end result was the same. Vacuo wanted their heads, and Cinder provided.
2) I think it was temporary. Even if it were permanent, things would have gone pretty much the same.
Without access to the Aether, they all are still incredibly old and skilled. Even Ruby, who was a prodigy, had grown immensely powerful and was armed with cutting-edge equipment, had hard time taking Ozpin down while he was functionally isolated and reeling from the loss.
Nuking Vale and him with it would've been pretty much the only option of taking him down.

My main prediction is that Bumblebee will either explode in or take a big hit in popularity after the first three episodes. Right now a lot of its fanbase comes from how volume 3 ended. Ff RT doesn't take Yang or both Blake and Yang in a romantic direction early (not necessary overt, but certainly implied feelings), I believe hopes for canon will die out fast among the newer fans. Obviously the older, more committed fans will ride it out to the end, but I don't believe they make up most of the current BB fanbase.

Otherwise it is difficult to make predictions. A lot of information is going to be revealed in volume 4 and that can make or break ships in a single scene. Why hasn't Ren returned Nora's feelings even though he seems to be aware of them? How much is Jaune going to overthink his and Pyrrha's (your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye) kiss? The history behind James and Glynda as well as the history of Qrow and Winter and so on.

Bumblebee I think is the only ship besides the ones with dead people that we can make a safe prediction for. Otherwise there's just too little information.

Yeah, I do think if one of the two were to happen it would be BB. That said, the original question was about popularity of ships in the form of fanworks. I seriously doubt WR fans will stop producing content. Ruby and Weiss could both get boyfriends and little would change I bet.

BB has fans like that as well, but with volume 3's ending I would hazard the guess that most BB fans are new to the ship. Folks that might have been casual RWBY fans or just didn't care for shipping that were heavily affected by Blake and Yang's scenes in three. I do think it is a safe bet that BB will lose those kinds of fans if the ship isn't built on in the show early on in volume 4 in someway. A casual fan is unlikely to dive into the world of fanfiction and fanart for a non-canon pair. Though perhaps I underestimate casual shippers.

Well, we're discussing popularity, not if a ship is endgame or not. I do think if BB doesn't start happening in someway early on in volume 4 it will lose a lot of its emotional appeal. Right now the fans are riding on volume 3's ending. If nothing is done to build on that romantic-wise then I be surprised if anyone, but the die hard, day one fans stick around. Especially since ships like Ren and Nora are very likely to receive a lot of development in volume 4.

BB grinding to a halt or stalling will kill a lot of the hype behind it. The pairing will always be popular, but it's doubtful if it can hold its #1 in such a scenario.

And WR has had the advantage of being the oldest ship on a show with no canon pairings on it. Arkos literally died before it could hit its peak and so WR never really had competition. BB only eclipsed it when casual fans started liking BB because of what happened between them.

But the show is getting more popular and certain ships like Ren/Nora are going to be getting the spotlight soon. Casual fans outnumber hardcore fans. It is a likely scenario that the popularity of the old and stalling ships will drop as the new and developing ships rises.

It's not a guarantee of course, but WR and BB aren't going to be top dogs forever at this pace. Most RWBY fans aren't yuri fans that will ship a ship for the sole purpose of shipping it. They will want canon developments eventually. I would use recent examples of Naruto and Bleach as examples. Most fans were okay with how the romantic loose ends concluded. Only the minority, in the form of hardcore shippers got mad as hell. At least in my experiences.

Why would you use Naruto as an example when the most shipping pairings were the ones that it ended up with? A better example would be Korra during its first couple seasons, when people were still overwhelmingly shipping Korrasami despite both of them both pursuing a male character and showing no signs of being interested in each other as more than friends. Canon means little compared to what gets momentum early on. Short of ~5 volumes of some random canon pairing, it is very doubtful that anything is going to pass BB/WR at this point, as you can clearly see in >>2142333 where WR has double the content of what was arguably the closest to canon pairing in the show. Arkos was never going to peak above WR/BB, it was just never even close to as popular.

Thanks for the math. I agree that it is likely due to a general increase in fanworks for RWBY with how popular it became this volume. But I wouldn't be surprised if those two ships got a bigger increase with how they played out in the end. Accounts wildly vary and monty's silly vol/season whatevers notation was weird but basically he had outlines out to 22 seasons. Because of production delays among other things, the time to cover that has basically doubled. Then there's just the story evolving as they change things as they go. So somewhere about 50 volumes of RWBY before they step out of Monty Oum land.

Sun or whoever the token minority faunus is will probably die as the token sacrifice in Blake's ineffectual and self-destructive crusade against Adam.

I really loved the slow burn romance and not shying away from real problems. I know it's hard to do which made me respect it more. It also felt character driven. Maybe I got too sucked into it and missed it but it didn't feel kind of like the rwby vs fnki fight in vol 3 where basically rt is doing what they can with an outline that says make joke, joke, and joke. RWBY wins. Bee's pretty much pans out in line with its characterization which is very nice to see these days. Can't really put good white rose into words but this handled it pretty well.

I'd have liked to have read more romance and domestic fluff but I couldn't think of a way it could have been done without shattering the pacing or tension.

God fucking DAMN that ending was a whopper.
Wondered why a bunch of stuff was around that felt like foreshadowing was in there at all.[/spoiler

Kathleen is in the doghouse with RT after she confirmed that Shane's letter was accurate. She's actually done a lot more to piss of the RT crew and kind of had a short beef with Barbara that Bernie sided with Barb on and even did a lets play with her to show solidarity. She's been more or less cut out of the RT circle and I wonder if she's burned enough bridges for Glynda to be written out like they did to Tex or if they'll just re-cast her.

personally, I think the newer voice for Mercury was actually a step up in quality, it of course doesn't change the fact that what RT did was really shitty, though.

With Glynda's VA, however, I don't think they'd be able to get rid of her that easily. She's already been well established as the voice of Tex in their other show, RvB, and overall has gathered a huge fanbase over the years, because of that.
Not that it's impossible, I'm just saying RT wouldn't be able to explain it away so easily without really upsetting some fans this time.

How about you get with it? RT isn't fucking Pixar, and RWBY isn't some flagship cartoon on a mainstream network. He was offered standard pay for some extra work and declined it, so they went to an actual professional and paid them instead.

Hell, I was fully expecting some fans to make a stink and ask them directly about it at one of their Panels at RTX this year. Which really was the best chance we had of getting any kind of statement out of them about this. But nobody dared even ask.

But overall it doesn't really matter. And RT knows it.
Some people were angry for a few weeks about what allegedly happened, but by the time the new trailer for season 4 was shown at RT's panel, everybody was already way back on the hype train.

Anyway, the only way to really make people truly get outraged around here would be to scrap the promised LGBT character, and/or give at least two of the girls of team RWBY a hetero love interest. No, seriously, imagine the amount of shit being thrown at RT for that, compared to some behind-the-scenes drama that nobody really knows the real facts about.

When did they make a promise for there to be a lgbt character? Kara and Lindsay aren't on board with white rose happening in canon and blake sunk her ships in the finale outside of an epilogue resolution. Though I guess they could do it like prunus girl where side characters are committed lesbians and there isn't a big fuss over it. With RNJR on the move, Blake on the run, Weiss poised for a tragedy or rebellion to force her out, and Yang angsting around patch's gay bars there's pretty good odds that RT can slide a ship or some new background characters in a relation ship. Heck, they can 2 birds with one stone by having Weiss regress into her older personality now that she's home, run away from the mansion to try and make it on her own. Her father blacklists her atlas wide in retaliation. Then one night in a bad blizzard she gets rescued by a pair of lesbian faunus. She's delirious from the cold or whatever so it doesn't really hit her. Then once she's recovered a little she freaks out and then they have a heart to heart about being not only faunus but lesbians as well in atlas pretty much under the SDC's thumb. Could light a fire under our little gay princess to reassure her that she needs to do the right thing in her little plot arc.

Could always be a shitstorm where RT gives us 3 volumes of cute bumblebee fluff then it's revealed that blake's in transition or something and everyone explodes at RT. Wouldn't be surprised if they do it cause they got sick of people flinging shit at them then rub their hippocracy back in their face after the long con pays off.

Who was actually introduced in V3 though that wasn't a throwaway? Qrow and Winter are the only ones that come to mind, and Qrow has already been proven pretty straight, or at the very least a surprise bi. Please let it be Winter and that's why she's not the heiress and Weiss is until Weiss comes out herself

Winter, Qrow, Ciel (seems fairly likely we'll see her again given she was Penny's handler, probably works for Ironwood, and is from Atlas) FNKI, since we might see them while dealing with Weiss' arc, Scarlet and Sage if we see SSSN again (likely), Salem. Possibly BRNZ? It was strange they put May in that one early shot and focused on her quite a bit during the battle.
