The battle audio was definitely better in this episode too. I wouldn't call it good, but at least I can tell what individual sounds are supposed to be now and it's not painful to listen to even though it's still horribly distorted.

I'm still confused as to what the fuck is actually supposed to be going on here though. We know that Rena caused some kind of calamity, NegaRena ostensibly had something to do with it and also some kind of experimentation going on with Kei. Ingrid and Abel don't seem to be villains as much as people "doing what they need to do" for someone unknown reason, with Johann being some kind of outsider working with them who obvious has his own agenda (and is obviously going to betray or force them to do something they don't want to do at some point).

Her death flags were planted pretty hard in episode 5. My guess is that Rena and Yui will be fighting a tough enemy that they can't beat (probably Ingrid and Kei), so Sara and Tia leave Retsu to help them out and Johann kills off Retsu. This would then obviously cause Sara+Tia and Yui+Rena to avoid each other because they all blame themselves, Sara+Tia for not sticking with Retsu and protecting her and Yui+Rena for not being strong enough to take on the opponents.

Besides the obvious it has giant robots, there's usually a main focus on the actual mechs themselves and the mechanics and the art of piloting them, etc. I know in this, the lolis ARE the mechs, but it seems like, in this, the main focus is on the interpersonal relationships btwn the girls (as actual girls, not mechs). Hell, this last ep (9) went for 18 mins w/o showing any mechs and it was only after evil shota showed up did we even get any mechs at all and it was about 3 mins worth.

One of the last "Real" mecha series I remember seeing was Aldnoah Zero. Say what you like about it, at least it tried to explain the mechanics of what was going on. At least in the first season. Didn't watch the second and I'll pretend it doesn't exist since the way it ended was fine.
