Actually, yuri could have saved Other M. If there was an interesting dynamic between Melissa and Samus, rather than their meeting just twice (once for a 15 minute expose cutscene at the end of the game), that would have been a much better driving force for the story than the uninteresting subplots we got. Having them see each other as the only one present they can trust, since they both have reasons to distrust the soldiers, having them work together, Samus ultimately realizing Melissa was using her, but Melissa still having grown attached to Samus... There's plenty there. It just didn't happen because the game was written and directed by a hack.

Hayato is the father whose daughter, Rhajat, is a lesbian option.

In Revelations, where you get access to both routes' casts, your best bet for such shenanigans is to marry him off to Nyx.

In Birthright, if you can stomach it, the other best option to mother Rhajat is Orochi. People are fond of the Orochi/Kagero pairing as kind of an unofficial yuri pair, but then again, you just grind through this and then just pretend it never happened. Again, you can marry Hayato to any woman in the Birthright route, but Orochi or Nyx will make her one of, if not the most powerful magic user in Fates.

There's also the baffling decision of including a female character so openly attracted to females, moreso than she is to males, in a game where yuri is a possibility, and yet only allowing her to marry or romance males. That's the kind of decision that shows how fundamentally het Fire Emblem really is despite the bones it throws /u/s from time to time (though admittedly yuri marriage was a big bone).

Honestly, going forward, I expect Nintendo'll just be pretty freewheeling with homo-supports between an avatar and other units, possibly just letting you gay up with whoever the fuck you want. If we're really lucky they might add bonafide homo supports in non-avatar couplings. Gay options certainly didn't hurt Fates since it managed to outdo Awakening in terms of sales and certainly didn't kill franchise momentum, and hell, they flirted with the idea in PoR/RD, where the localization at best played up the chemistry between Ike and Elincia before just shrugging and letting him walk off into the sunset with Soren.

Really though, Fire Emblem's always been a series dominated by yaoi output up till the 3DS titles when tumblr threatened to burn down Nintendo for naming Chrom and Sumia's cutscene "Lovebirds" and yuri stuff came out too.

I mean, I see what you mean in that it was all humorous 'oh that wacky lez' type characterization. Kinda like Chizuru from Bleach except less predatory and shit. The thing is, it was by far her most major piece of characterization even then (which doesn't exactly flatter her writing, and is part of the reason I'm personally not too sad I can't romance her anyway). Making her able to get with dudes too is fine and all, making her most recognizable character trait just...not true, which is what not letting her date any chicks does, is just stupid. You're acting like those are representative of some widespread standard of the early 21st century, and not just notable anomalies that make them relevant to the board. The vidya /u/ rec charts are fucking anemic even by the standards of the humble anime chart.

Lacking any same-sex endings isn't really a big step back considering the support system as it was was basically on life support for the four previous titles, and even when compared with the GBA ones makes up for it with the sheer number, content, variety of combinations and more intuitive design as to how the support system works in the first place, not to mention further and more explicit character interaction in the DLC even accounting for characters that don't have supports. How valuable is a same-sex ending when so many of them were basically "they were friends and married dudes" like some Class S shit from way back when?

On top of that, you have to remember that the game industry 15, 10 years ago is a very different beast to the one 5 years ago or today. The 3DS is stronger than the DS and GBA, and games are more expensive and take longer to make. Then you also have to account for the general death of A-AA level game production, especially in Japan.

By the sheer quantity of stuff coming out back then, of course we'd see something happening. But now we're in a different age, where the content of /u/ and the homo bracket are a market force that can coexist with more conventional demographics.

Ok so Nintendo broke me and I bought Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl and so far I rather enjoy it but the pairing in there that I want is so rare and it is Ren and Tsusukul. There are no fics and very few pics and I just find them adorable

The sequel's better in the sense better balanced the mechanics introduced in EO1. It's got similar balance issues regarding the class introduced for the nameless MC.

The EO2 dungeons were also redone up.

So it doesn't feel so half-baked if you decide to roll in classic mode.
