Like i said, it's not the Real Chikane, Amnesian was intended as a typical ecchi/fanservice thing and not as a yuri manga, so just pretend it doesn't exist

I think the main thing people keep forgetting was how little self esteem Himeko had. This was someone who considered herself a literal doormat.

If Chikane had hurt those around her, Himeko would have blamed herself forever and never ever emotionally recovered. If Chikane seriously damaged Souma instead, then Himeko would have no support in combat.

So the best thing to do was giving into her already openly known (to the Orochi Necks at least) desire and assault Himeko directly instead. This way she turns herself into a convincing villain to the Orochi and doesn't cripple Himeko completely or the support around her, giving Himeko a chance to recover and accomplish what needed to be done.

Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora is only worth watching if you want to see something that falls into "it's so terrible, it's good" category. Most of the anime original OAV shorts are actually pretty good, though.

I think every Chikane knew it. Not only this specific one.
But after she watched Himeko kissing Souma ( I perceieved it as she got hurt by it, and thus her memories came back), she remembered it in this lifetime. And then she decided to act crazy and make Himeko kill her.

I guess she knew it in every of her lifetimes as well, but she killed Himeko. Now, after killing her in these lifetimes, her pain grrew to the point of not being able to fullfil it anymore. So she tried to die herself insyead of Himeko

So I read the whole thing again and I still don't think she had a flood of memories of killing Himeko. That was the anime. In the manga, she didn't need to remember anything because she already knew the ceremony of the priestesses and the orochi. The only time she had a flood of memories was during the time when Ame no Murakumo first called out to them in the earlier chapters.

Yeah, the anime took a different route and it seemed more sad in the anime especially since Himeko doesn't get "a choice out of the eight worlds" and defy the conventional cycle of being separated after the sacrifice and restoration of the world. I know the stinger at the end of the anime is supposed to be this, but I always thought of it as more of a depressing or fatalistic thing. yeah they meet/fall in love again, but eventually orochi will come back and they'll have to kill one another again as part of the cycle. I thought the mecha was fine. Clearly they wanted to have the story's primary conflict ongoing while the protagonists continued something which, if you squint, resembles a normal day-to-day life. The mechs solve this problem by allowing single combat on a large scale while concealing the combatants' identities, i.e, Souma smashes the school in the first episode while aboard his mech and, while just about everyone saw it, almost nobody knew it was him so he doesn't have to go on the lam or whatever. It probably wasn't the most elegant solution but if I recall from the fore-or-after-word of the manga Kaishaku also wanted to experiment with doing a mecha series as they hadn't done that before, so that's the one they settled on.

It wasn't even properly 'mecha', anyway, which is technically 'real robot' like Gundam or Macross where the mechs are machines in the same way that a tank or jet fighter are machines and not some magical bullshit.

One of the main reasons I fuckijg love KnM was how "normal" of a story it was. The mecha and the ancient evil plot in the backdrop contributed greatly to that.

Look at almost any recent mainstream hits. You get smaller, character focused pieces early on that gradually shift to bigger scaled plot points and they ultimately get resolved together. KnM did exactly that, but instead of the dashing yet misunderstood hero saving the day and getting his girl, it's about two girls instead.

KnM just fucking nailed so many romance/emotional moments perfectly, despite obviously having some flaws of its own. Even after all these years I can still rattle off a few scenes just from memories alone, and while I admit they might sound a bit corny or dramatic without the appropriate context, but back in the days, they had me gasping or nearly in tears when I was watching them for the first time, second time, and even numerous repeats after.

Two reasons. One: Chikane wanted Himeko to hate her, so that she wouldn't feel any remorse for killing her. Two: in the manga version, the rape took place in the cave where they were trying to summon Ame no Murakumo. Himeko was a virgin, and when she...bled...it served as a catalyst to summon it. In the anime, due to the changed location and how the summoning of Ame no Murakumo changes function, it's much more just the first reason and wanting to keep the event in the anime too.

Till this day, I still can't find another perfect specimen like him in yuri. The male love rivals of the lesbians always fall into 2 categories: 1) Douchebag or 2) Non-threatening. Souma is not a douchebag and is legitimately threatening to Chikane's chances of winning the Himekobowl. I can't imagine liking this show so much without him.

As for whether it is sympathetical or not, it's up to individual values, as long as they're clear on the facts:

- Chikane raped Humeko in order to make the girl hate her enough to kill her. It's literally to save Himeko's life, as twisted as it sounds. And as you explained, there's no better options.

- But the rape did have a partial selfish motive, not completely selfless. Chikane indulged in her desire plus saving Himeko as a one-stone-two-birds action.

So knowing that, whether one can forgive Chikane or not really depends on their acceptance of the selfish part. I personally forgive her because she didn't wish for forgiveness with excuses (despite having a good excuse). She's paying for her deed with her life, and I think that's very respectable.

When judging a character, always consider the worst scenario. If I can love Chikane even if she did enjoy raping Himeko, then I'm secure in my perception of her. It's better than being in denial of a very real possibility. What, am I going to not like her anymore if she was somewhat selfish? Fucking fickle.

Just finished this series. It was alright, I guess the anime end was a happy end. But it didn't feel satisfying for some reason.
I guess I'm just tired of these kinds of endings in yuri series.
