If you want ~ that match Wild Words, you can use Tranquil Words. It has em and en dashes too (— –). I can zip up that and/or Zud Juice if you need them.

It might be too late to do anything about this now, but a lot of the pages aren't leveled quite enough -- black areas not black, lots of speckles in the white. There aren't a lot of obvious black areas since Karuha did Nico's hair mostly with a fill for this one.

The text is too low in pretty much all the bubbles. I have a habit of doing that with typesetting too, wonder why...

If you're just talking about the anime, you're still barely right, since there have been moments between them in both seasons that wasn't about them bickering. And that's their shtick anyway, they fight a lot but they're still somehow looking out for each other. Go listen to Magnetic Today for their dynamic.

But I agree that that scene was confusing. It's the safest way to pander to both NicoMaki fans (from the conversation after that scene, there's little chance it was jealousy about Tsubasa, since Nozomi specifically mentioned Maki, but it's still vague) and the waifu crowd, I guess.

I would say that scene was there just for pandering, but to say NicoMaki are not close is a little bit of a stretch. Even in the anime canon, which arguably is where they are least close, they still try to squeeze in as many ship teases for them as possible in season 2 though.

SID and SIF are just big gay fest. The Nip sure are talented for making things as obvious as possible without spelling it out.

Agreed. The animated series barely covers the full extent of what is shown of their relationship in the SIDs, SIF, and even the magazine articles and Q&A columns. It also has to be added that skits penned by Kimino in the livestream shows often suggest at the pairing too.

The anime has an overarching plot (saving their school/winning Love Live) while the other materials are more character-driven, which is likely the reason.

Plus, we can't forget the CVs ship it. Who could better understand Nico and Maki than Soramaru and Pile?

The meme far predates the SIF poll. In the third all-member livestream special, around the time of the Wonder Zone single, Nanjolno and Shikaco already were making a gag with it.

It seems to originate from one of the stories written by Kimino which were bundled with the s1 BDs where Eli, fed up with the gossip about µ's going around school, loudly declares in her narration "Elichika's going home!" Given how much of a stiff prick early-s1 Eli was, this was an interesting departure from it and gained popularity.

I always thought that fighting is the only way Nico and Maki know to reach out for each other. They can’t be honest with their feelings (not necessary romantically speaking), so they keep fighting as a way to interact with each other. That doesn't mean that they hate each other like NicoMaki-haters always say. You may think it’s stupid, but people that dishonest/self-centered can be that way.

On the other hand, when they’re not aware (for example, episode 1 and 5), in special moments (episode 2) or at the moment of truth (episode 11), Nico and Maki are pretty close and don't mind showing they actually care for each other.

Well, that's for the anime. Nothing to add to what others said about extra material that support NicoMaki.

The whole scene in the movie was made to give NicoMaki fans something to fangirl over and something to laugh over for the rest of the public. Nozomi confirms it when she asks Nico if it’s for Maki and she gets in her tsundere mode.

Just finished watching the Kouhaku edition of the NHK special live. They really have come a long way. In the clips from backstage before they were announced as new participants during the press conference, the members are excited but also close to tears.

It's sad that they can't field a full team on the 31st, but being able to attend is a great accomplishment in itself.

It was really more about µ's though rather than being idols. It makes sense when you consider going pro would mean they would fully devote their future careers as idols. Nico and Hanayo would continue being idols because its their dream but the others have their own prospects.
