It doesn't. Gryffindor's bravery is the hot-headed, brash one. While Max IS brave, her bravery comes from loyalty and devotion. She prefers not to risk her life when there's a way to avoid it, but she will do it if it's absolutely necessary and/or the life of somebody dear to her is at stake. Not to mention Gryffindor is also supposed to be represented by daringness and chivalry, and Max is, well... a shy reclusive geek.
She is determined, loyal and honest (well, kinda), however, and those are the defining traits of Hufflepuff.

Part of nightmare is her subconscious guilt tripping her exactly for that and it happens no matter how you play.

If Dontnod weren't so lazy/broke, they should've added a little bit more variety to that conversation with other Max, made it reflect one's playing style.

At the end of the day, the people she manipulates end up being happier that someone cares about them or the stuff they like or go through and Max is also happier because she is climbing the social ladder like she always wanted.

And you have to admit at least that while the game doesn't necessarily force you to do all that stuff, there is something about how the game starts off painting Max as shy and reclusive but who wishes could be different and then first big area after getting powers presents you with a dozen of characters you are encouraged to test Max's powers on in order to make people like her?

And while yeah it's true I can't tell you exactly you are playing the game the wrong way because it's a game about choice, Max isn't exactly a blank slate character, her personality is determined, you can just pick a couple of choices in game encouraging or discouraging her from particular actions.

There was an interview with the devs when they said that based on the statistics majority of people more or less picked the choices they believe Max would normally do so obviously they had an idea about some kind of canon Max.

They've had ~10-12 hours to come up with a plan. They could've lied to David about a bomb/Jefferson's accomplice out on the loose, hijacked the radio tower and broadcast a tornado warning, hell, demonstrated Max's powers to David and convince him to pull some strings in the police.

Considering that she KNEW that Joyce and everyone in the diner were in danger and that the tornado was coming when she focused on Warren's photo, "doing nothing" was the stupidest plan she could've come up with.
I'm not even going to bring up the SF timeline and the fact that Max "forgot" about the tornado. The amount of retardation in Episode 5 is just astounding.

The same reason many players thought it: narrative convenience. Max received her powers and visions of the tornado about the same time as she became involved in the mystery of Rachel's disappearance and Nathan's involvement in it. Throw in all the stuff about the Prescotts ruining the environment and native spirituality and it's easy enough to assume something like that. Besides, there's not a whole lot an 18-year-old can do to convince an entire town to evacuate when all your evidence of an incoming tornado is visions. In a situation like that it's easy to do the job you can and hope for the best.

I have no idea how prestigious it is, but Ashly Burch got the Golden Joystick Award for best performance of the year. She was indeed great, though I also really liked Hannah Telle, who played Max. I thought she was especially good in the last episode, really conveying how tired and despairing Max is.
