It was mesmerizing
>>87804346
Maybe a bit too long but I agree. possibly his best
did you watch it after yesterdays thread too? agree, it's really comfy
can anyone recommend further movies that capture this bleak atmosphere in the zone?
>>87804533
No, I just recently decided to watch it. The road has a sort of similar vibe. Or you can play the games which captured the vibe even more imo.
>>87804533
Werckmeister Harmonies
>>87804512
imo that's Andrei Rublev.
I watched this last week.
>mfw the the cast died from the toxic poisoning in the river
>mfw tarkovsky and his wife also died from it (or killed by the kgb)
>>87804346
>tfw showed it to my friend who was really depressed and drinking a lot a couple years ago
>finish the movie
>"what did you think man?"
>It made him cry
I love this movie.
>>87804533
get the videogame Shadow of Chernobyl and then put on some mods for it.
>>87804841
I'd put Andrei Rublev and Stalker on a par. Then Solaris and Nostalgia beneath them. Haven't seen Mirror yet though.
>>87805070
>this crap making anyone cry
b 8
>>87805128
Don't be mean, Anon.
>>87805070
>my conscience wants everyone in the world to be a vegetarian, but my subconscious wants a juicy piece of meat. So what do I want?
For some reason that line left a big impact on me. Who can truly answer that question?
>>87804533
Dead Man's Letters. Saw it in 35mm recently and loved it. Lopushansky was a huge follower of Tarkovsky and that film is basically his tribute to Stalker.
>>87805093
I found The Mirror to be his best. Stalker's a close second though.
I watched Solaris and The Mirror and thought they sucked ass. Is this any better?
there was a time i had the patience and curiosity to watch movies like Stalker all the time. Now i have to be in a really specific mood and mental place to do it. I can still appreciate it but i have a hard time being engaged anymore. Does anyone else know this feel? i don't like it
>>87805603
you have autism
>>87804346
it's a good, maybe great movie but I watched it recently and it indulges in "philosophical" dialogue way too much for my tastes.
I think this may be Tark's most overrated film, it's easily his least cinematic: if you watched it with the sound off, you'd have no clue what was supposed to be happening.
That being said, it is hypnotic and the ending certainly sticks with you. Was definitely worth getting the criterion bluray.
>>87805802
explain
>>87804346
Saw this in a theatre that didn't have entirely accurate English subs, so while I loved it, it was a bit off-putting that at times I was the only person laughing in the theatre at the jokes.
>>87805603
ye i kinda have the same thing. i need to be in a certain mood for movies now too, the internet ruined my brain and i have adhd now
>>87806206
Good, the pop culture jew did its trick.
Now go and buy Chapman's Homer translations and unfuck yourself.
>>87804346
I enjoyed it but I thought the sacrifice was his most lovecraftian film
>>87805603
I could barely finish Stalker as it is. I like it and I like that it exists, but there are so many 5 minute shots without much going on.
I end up making a blacklog of stuff that seems interesting and not actually watching anything
>>87805581
Solaris is his weakest film so you actually might
That said if you really want to give him another chance after not liking those two films I'd recommend Andrei Rublev
>>87805581
you're a fucking pleb
very reminiscent of lovecraft i'd say
>>87804959
underages like you killed this board desu
in a nutshell : "what people come to believe when their government keeps secrets from them"
>>87806508
alright
>>87806560
they were posturing pish that felt horridly episodic and spotty
Not science fiction, philosophy fiction. Don't promise physical phenomena if you have no budget.
>>87804346
was lucky enough to see this in the theater last week. The sound and visuals were top notch, but sitting in that uncomfortable chair for nearly 3 hours was awful. The first time I was it was on my couch with complete silence. That might be the best way to watch it.
Read this OP.
You'll like it.

I was upset that they never showcased the power of the zone, but I've read that some people believe that the zone wasn't supernatural at all. I don't think I believe that because that whole story with porcupine wouldn't make sense then. Also, how would his daughter have powers if the zone wasn't really supernatural?
>>87808464
power of zone was shown through out the film.
read art of war.
>>87808218
I think it's both, it's a mix of science fiction and stream-of-consciousness
>stalker
Did anyone here read the book?
Not trying to sound elitist but I noticed most stalker fans have never read it/heard of it and its a shame
>>87808464
>how would his daughter have powers if the zone wasn't really supernatural?
That's the point of the final shot of the film (Monkey "moving" the glass).
Man, I really love the stalkerverse. Played the games (actually I keep playing CoC for the past year or so), seen the movie and read Roadside Picnic.
Any more shit like this?

>>87808552
>>87808793
They show the bird glitch out too after they pass the grinder.
>>87805603
thats called depression
>>87808804
Not much. There really needs to be a decent budget movie adaptation of the video games. Been saying this for years.
do the games bear any relation to the film at all?
>>87808832
Must have missed this scene. From my recollection, Stalker was a feature about the nature of philosophy, with a target on the metaphysical (the Zone). The last shot was supposed to instill doubt in the viewer as to the veracity of the protag's claims in the beginning (when he's talking in the bar to Writer and Professor). I haven't seen it in a while...
>>87808962
In the games the zone is basically Chernobyl 2.0 and it's filled with pockets of radiation, anomalies, monsters, and different factions who humans who are there to collect artifacts.
>>87808962
It was based on it but it mostly just captures some of the atmosphere and a couple references
>>87808962
No. But get Shadow of Chernobyl even then. Story driven game with good gameplay (just remember to get some select few updates, ask in /vg/ thread if it has or in /v/ if there's no general)
>>87808962
it uses the idea of a zone and artifact hunting from the book and character likeness from the movie but that's pretty much it.
>in both movie and book protagonists dislike guns and forbid them in the zone
>in game everyone and their mothers are stocked with AKs
I mean its a fun vidya but you will not find the same quality
>>87808847
>>87805802
I have both Autism and Depression yet I have no problem getting through films like Stalker. Just smoke a bowl first and force yourself to watch the first 10 minutes. Maybe you just aren't interested
>>87808962
This will give you an idea of the atmosphere of the game
https://youtu.be/bYgoiM1P4G8
you now remember that an americanized roadside picnic tv adaptation was supposed to come out this year but got canned thankfully
>>87809388
DUDE
is it on netflix or other similar streaming services?
>>87809510
even better, it was remastered and legally put on youtube for free

>>87809606
That Mosfilm channel hass so many fucking GEMS.
but when will this Mosfilm version be out on a bluray? Criterion and Artificial Eye butchered this.. what I mean by this is that this Mosfilm version looks BETTER than the Criterion and AE versions ffs.
>>87809042
That's correct, a lot of people seem to miss this, the movie is supposed to be ambiguous, it fits with the themes.
>>87808713
Yep. A roadside picnic. Also seen stalker and played the game and its expansions. Love it
Hard to be a god > Roadside picnic.
>>87808962
Artifacts, anomalies, there is a wishmaker people search for and the landscapes a very similar.
