Why is IT considered a good villain?

>>87789486
It's not really scary as much as it's disturbing and unsettling.

He had one job.
Nigga was an incompetent tool.

He should probably take some lessons from his cousin Freddy Kreuger. That guy does a better job of killing off the main cast than It did.

He able to kill Georgie and that thug easily in the first half.

>>87793511
IT is a cocky piece of shit who can only talk big.

It was clear that he was out of patience when they defeated him in the spooky house for the first time and he just grabbed the girl and took her alive to the sewers.

If he was powerfull he would have just decapitated them one by one on their own households.

Yet he was weak and needed to hire Henry Bowers to help him out.

It's not considered a good villain. Tim Currys performance is considerednone of the best for a horror villain.

The creature itself is probably one of the least understood villains ever. Most people thinknits an evil clown that eats people.
>>
Does this movie get any gorier than the first scene with Georgie? I read the book, but I'm squeamish with seeing live action gore and I heard this is a mostly PG-13 film with an R rating slapped onto it.
So is the excessive swearing and Georgie's death the only reason the R rating is there or is there a worse scene than that gore-wise?
>>
>>87795397
Beverly's room gets soaked in blood bursting from the sink, but that's it, nothing besides.
>>
>>87795506
not that Anon but kinda always disliked gore. If it's blood in total isolation like that scene it never really bothered me.
>>
>>87795506
Yeah, same as >>87795599 said. Blood by itself has no affect on me. An arm getting ripped off or some of the novel's deaths animated(I know things like Patrick's was changed to a kiddie's death)would affect me though.
>>
>>87793511
well, we dont KNOW that he killed george or the thug. could have just fucked them up, then taken them back into the sewer and kept chasing them as they tried to escape for days or weeks as they slowly died, feasting on their fear the whole time. george after losing the arm may have bled to death soon after but i kinda doubt he instantly finished him off, he probably spent a few hours running around with a missing arm. that would have been DELICIOUS fear. plus you gotta keep in mind, that was his first meal after just waking up from hibernation or whatever so he was hungry and ate too fast instead of savoring it like later on. he didnt kill them because dead things cant feel fear. but even taking this into account, i still felt like he was taking it way, way too easy on the kids. a few of them really needed to die.

I really fucking hope the second part will give him more screentime. I don't have very high expectations for adult Losers' characters, so having more Pennywise is the most reliable way for the sequel to hold up to the first movie, imo.

>>
>>87789486
Because he serves as a foil to the Loser's Club, it's not like he was designed and planned in vacuum, pennywise is specifically crafted as an antagonist to the kids, reflecting their fears and anxieties.
Considering IT is basically a coming-of-age story (+Facing your fears) so it works for this particular story, because he is made to fit that story. If you would put Pennywise in some other type of horror story he obviously woudn't work as well..
This is like storywriting 101 guys.
>>
>>87797758
>>87797818
Yes. They literally ran a train on Bev to strengthen themselves. Old school King was a crazy coke fiend.
>>
>>87789486
Probably the best portrayal of lovecraftian horror on the big screen since Ghostbusters
>>
>>87797487
Because IT is about growing up and the change from childhood to young adult is sex (doing IT).
Since Bev wasn't a virgin she couldn't be defeated by Pennywise so she had to bang the rest of the club to make them immune to Pennywise virgin powers.
>>
>itt novel fags can't understand that the movie shouldn't rely on book knowledge
They don't bother to allude to the turtle in any way and IT comes off as a chump that gets rekt by the power of friendship

I think people who like the book, or the mini series and went to see the first part will also go see the second part, but i don't think Part 2 will get as good reviews.

It's hilarious how he tries to later justify himself by saying he didn't think the sex aspect was important because it was a rite of passage and muh "coming-of-age".

The only references to the turtle in the movie are just there to appease bookfags
>>
>>87800386
Not neccesarily, the rumors seem to imply that in Part 2 the adults would do more research into Pennywise, and possibly uncover some of these weirder aspects of the story.

Could also be utter bullshit.
>>
>>87798313
I was freaked out by the painting. Very unsettling
>>
The only unsettling/tense scene in the entire movie was the opening scene with georgie and pennywise, the only scene they put effort into was for the trailer so mongy normies on facebook could lose their minds over it.
>>
>>87800341
Yeah. King is literally like "it's funny to me how people car about the sex but don't care about the child killing hehehe"

Freddy has defined rules on when he can kill people, Pennywise really doesn't. There is no reason why Pennywise doesn't just kill the losers while they're sleeping or alone and defenseless. At least with Freddy, if you manage to wake up before he gets you he knows you're gonna have to sleep again, Pennywise comes off as incompetent in comparison.

Read the fucking book.
In the book he was just taunting them at first, because it makes them tastier when he finally kills them.
It's all about mind fucking someone.
As the book goes on, they realize that rules exist in play for each form IT takes.
IT exerts a lot of energy in transformations and often IT isn't even really there in a physical form. It's psychically there, playing little tricks.
However at multiple points in the book when he really does attack them they get away either A. due to plain luck and cosmic deity deus ex machina or B. because the rules with the physical form allowed them to temporarily beat them.

Imagine you're afraid of giant sharks, so IT transforms into a shark to eat you. Sharks are weak in the nose and eyes. So if you stab it in the nose IT has to follow the rules of sharks, so it feels the pain.
In general this novel was never meant to be a movie. It's fucking dumb.

>>
>>87803042
I saw it today, and it's not very scary. I was hoping for a kind of atmospheric fear, but it relies on some cheap tricks that have become the norm of todays horror movies. Jump scares and what not. It has some spooky moments and is a genuinely cool movie though. The part with the projector is probably the scariest that it gets, in the trailers the projector part goes up until where the projector falls down and gets stuck with the photo of him looking at one of the kids, what happens next is really fucking intense for a few seconds, and was loud as shit, I was very into it. Most of the rest of the movie is not as scary, but like I said is very good.
>>
>>87803308
Either the cops found out and she spun some self defense story and detailed his history of abusing her, or she disposed of the body and is missing like so many others. Like Ben said, missing people are 6 times the national average in Derry (just adults) so going missing wouldn't have seemed too weird.

Saw this last night. My girlfriend was amped up because her friends all told her how scary it was. I had a feeling it was going to be nothing special. We both went in like that.

By the end, she was bored out of her skull and I was mesmerized by all the scenes with the kids. Guess we both walked away with something we didn't expect.

but yeah, this movie was hardly scary. RLM said it best in their review, actually. It fell into all the tropes of modern horror but clearly could have been a much better film without them.

We saw Annabelle just before it too, which may have left a bad taste in our mouth. That one really sucked.

I would highly recommend it. It's a good story with lots of problems but the best part is that it's full of utterly bizarre and crazy shit like random hyper-sexualized muli-page scenes of children and crazy space god turtles. King was off his ass on coke when he wrote it and boy does it show

A common thing in Kings stories is that his villains seem almighty and infinitely powerful, but in reality they're much weaker than the forces of good when good protagonists set their minds to stopping it.

>>
>>87813319
No, because nothing would happen. When they all go home at the end of the film, they never hang out together again until they meet up as adults. The force that brought them together goes away after "killing" IT, they stop hanging out, they all move out of Derry and have almost idyllic lives where they forget what happened (influenced by Pennywise to keep them from coming back.) Only Mike stays where he's poor, depressed and remembers everything. He'd be the only story to tell but even then, nothing happens in Derry for another 27 years.

The only mini-series that should happen is a retelling of Derry's history every 27 years.

I was creeped out by the Georgie hallucination but they ruined it by having his voice go lower. This movie had a lot of horror tropes I don't like. The twisted painting woman was scary as she was, she didn't need to show those pointy teeth.

Then the headless kid chased the fat kid and I lost my shit because he moved so fucking stupidly. But every monster in the movie ran in a stupid manner.

your all fucking stupid. the point of IT is that he feeds on fear of certain young people in derry. he fucks around and avoids killing him because he gets euphoria from killing the more afraid they are. killing is second hand to his fear feeding. the point of the losers club is that they are a bunch of kids through strange fate attempt to fight him in order to survive, and in facing him together, they realise that his very physical power relies purely on their fear. he is a being. he can only be in one place at a time, but hes not human. he has limits in his abilities and limits himself to in his mind garuntee maximum fear in his victims. hes mortal, he can be killed but unlile many supernatural killers he can attack you at any time, public or private, day or night. that is what makes him terrifying. only his victims can see and feel his manipulation.

Society has a very odd definition of what they believe is the "worst" thing that can happen to people. I believe in terms of rape people believe it is worse than murder because the person has to continually live with what happened to them.

Case in point: When we see a victim of a rape and murder on the news what is focused on more? The rape. We care more that the person (female because if men are raped by women who the hell cares right?) was sexually assaulted than murdered because rape, for some reason, has a more psychological impact than the idea of someone dying.

Pedophilia is sick and should never be considered a "mental disease". Murder, however, will always take a backseat. You want to go around and kill kids? Who the fuck cares. No one. Hell niggers kill white children constantly and no one gives a shit. A drunk white guy fingerbangs a drunk girl behind a dumpster? He gets his name and face listed in the legal definition of rape.

I wouldn't say King is in the wrong for what he believes and the proof is in the pudding. People would rather kill children than see their genitals mentioned in any way.

Annon from 647 here:

I don't buy into the "sex makes bond" argument in terms of how they come together to beat IT. I think that's a cheap cop-out honestly. What I do believe, however, is that Bev is becoming a woman and the only way she knows how to "show love" is by having sex (with what is implied with her daddy and what he has done to her) and as one other anon put it she has sex with the Losers club to show her "love" to them as she has no other means of expressing that emotion to them.

We can see this reflected in the adult side of things when she winds up with an abusive boyfriend before returning to the town.

Truthfully I don't know that many women sexually abused as children, but one can't deny the cliche of a female only thinking that love = sex.

I'd say shock value works in books and in media but as I postulated before people will always lose their minds about rape. I think the kids were what? 13, 14 in the movie? I know Bev already was on her period but that can be early onset.

Point is King is still correct about people losing their minds over any sort of sexuality. Look at GoT and what happened with Sansa (another redhead). Her rape was simply implied and people lost their fucking shit. An episode or two later a fat woman and a male baby were devoured by dogs and no one batted an eye.

Yeah, but if he spoke about the Cambodian genocide and how that was horrible too, he'd still be right. It's still not irrelevant, he's just changing the topic.

Also Sansa wasn't rape, they were married. ;)

My exact thoughts when I saw the movie earlier today. IT and the Yellow Lanterns tap into the power of the Deadlights in my headcanon now

how about a Pennywise slice-of-life prequel where he's spying on kids to lern about their fears, dicking around with eldritch monsters and reading O?

Pennywise was far too chipper in this movie, hopefully in the sequel he's embittered from being humiliated and comes back ready to terrify for real. Also hoping they leave out the loud stings that play whenever something moves out of the shadows or something. Part of what made the book so scary is that something spooky would happen right out in the open, so casually that it almost went unnoticed. And then the dawning realization something is terribly wrong starts seeping in, and by the time you take a second look, its already clambering over a fence and limping and lurching towards you.

There needs to be more "casual" horror going on in the background in the next movie, like a shot of Pennywise handing a balloon to a kid seen over someones shoulder in a coffee shop

You're just angry you never got pussy at that age and you feel like you got left out so now that you're older you can make up for it as younger girls don't know what they want and will just fall for an older fucked up piece of shit like you. Then they realize their mistake
