I gotta disagree on Massacre of Mankind being good, it felt like by trying to flesh the Martians out he made them less "alien". The fact that there's a sequel at all kind of messes with the intention of the original's ending, which had the Martians establish a colony on Venus and sort of insinuated that humanity and the Martians may meet again in the future under better circumstances.
