Yep lots of great stories and little arcs with subtle storylines going through all the episodes. The mad hatter, Mr freeze. Hugo Strange, Dollmaker, The Riddler were all done pretty well, especially The riddlers transition

haha no this was just one episode where penguin was being nursed back to health and hiding after he "died" and ivy helped him escape in that episode.
It's not like arrow or flash where everything is so rigid and they won't move from one place like the coffee place in flash or the lab. Moving locations and characters isn't such a big deal in gotham.

Ivy nurses him back to health and Penguin thinks she's a crazy bitch so just uses her so he can get better and call back his most trusted gang members. When he calls them in it turns out they all betray him and try to sell him out to Riddler / Barbara, but Ivy saves him. Penguin realizes the value in Ivy's friendship who suggests they gather an army of likeminded people (freaks).

By the end of the season Ivy, Freeze and Firefly are all in good will with each other.

Yeah, the show doesn't stay 100% true to the Batman lore (thank fucking god, why would you want to watch the show knowing exactly what's going to happen), but it always has the spirit down.

Nora commits suicide during Freeze's origin story. He tries to kill himself but Hugo Strange revives him and convinces Freeze to aid him in his research. At this point Freeze is essentially muscle for Penguin.

I liked that aspect about him too but his origin story was well told and pretty emotional when his wife killed himself. When Strange revives him he talks about how his life should've ended with Nora and Strange convinces him this is an opportunity to start anew with a blank slate.
