I watched the STD trailer and the meet-the-characters promo vid clip and it seems that they're targetting the Gilmore Girls and Supergirl fangirls.

The trailer was all about feelings and there's that broody teengirl song in the background.

In the promo vid clip, instead of talking about Star Trek or about exploring, the actors/actresses were focusing on their characters' emotions, feelings and relationships.

It's definitely another one of those shows like Smallville and Supergirl that pretends to be Sci-Fi but is actually a Chick-Show.

>>
>>87665996
>>87663554

It's too early to compare it to the original Star Trek. We don't know yet if exploration and adventure will comprise most of the episodes.

I watch it mainly because it's an enjoyable comedy.
>>
>>87665996
>If you like trek

That's really what it comes down to. Especially if you like "old Trek" and not the super normie friendly new stuff.

It's pretty much TNG with some humor (so far, but I doubt it's going to deviate much from this formula).
>>

Thats just blatant lies though. He was probably forced to take a step back from being the center of every single scene. There are also not-Seth-styled jokes that are good.

I really enjoyed it. Ship design was great. Music and effects and characters were all really good. It made me feel that old trek feel I have not felt in a long time.

Honestly it would be an even better show without the jokes, just imo. The jokes are fine, I just never realized until I watched this how much I wanted a star trek that was not anti-white anti-male anti-heterosexuality, SJW-propaganda, etc. I mean two of the three main women are attractive straight white women. The captain and his best friend are straight white males who want to have sex with beautiful women. I aint gonna get that on discovery thats for fucking sure. It just felt good to see a kirk going on adventures.

In a way by some weird fluke they ended up making an anti-discovery while discovery is airing. It's amazing the contrast of the two. Discovery is deeply seeped in hated of whites, hatred of heterosexuality, and hatred of cis straight males, especially white cis straight males, paired with humorless SJW diversity lectures.

I'm glad we have an alternative. That's all I'll say.

(pic is the high-gravity cutie without her alien makeup on)

Pretty good sci-fi, weak comedy

it's surface-level sci-fi and weak comedy

though comedy for comedy's sake generally doesn't do too well anyways. og star trek shows had comedy through character development, not simply "silly thing is happening right now haha #relatable". The only set-up joke was the black guy drinking soda, and it wasn't very funny. Jokes are "setup, premise, punchline", and it's the only "joke" that had that format.

also, they're using a lot of CG filler to pad out the episode for its lackluster writing. I want to see characters interacting, not 2008-tier TV CG every other scene.

if i want to be honest, im actually just real fucking happy that a sci fi show is out where the crew dont automatically hate eachother. the conflict storyline with the captain/2nd in command is apparent, but everyone else get along and i fucking love that. it makes so much sense, who the fuck would get a crew together that cant stand eachother? not much makes me laugh in the first place so jokes needing to be better wont really matter, but i love everything else going for the show. i actually like seth now, but i hated him for long because of the cartoons. i became a little bit more of a fan watching that wild west movie, but knowing he went out of his way to make this orville show really makes me like him. i would want to do the same.

honestly, I'll admit that his live-action work has been bearable (I liked ted, haven't seen 2 but wanted to). But to say you hated him and now like him because of this one episode of a scifi comedy show that wasn't even that good suddenly has you liking him now is fairly naive.
I'm looking forward to the next episode and hope it meets/exceeds my expectations.

The first episode was good.

Stop your rage about MacFarlane for a second a think. Think back to the first episodes of TOS. Of TNG. DS9? How about VOY? Try ENT. Now think back to The Orville's first episode. Doesn't seem that bad now, does it? In fact, it was pretty damn good.
>>
sets were good, effects were mostly good however some of the dialogue was bad or went on for too long. it's a big fat "alright" so far, i think it could definitely improve but the groundwork is solid
>>
>>87670149
It just felt formulaic. I didn't like the contrived action/battle scenes and the comedy wasn't that funny.

I like american dad and this was tame (which I liked) comparatively, but it didn't show me an iota of anything new other than the loopy space ship and newly-molded latex that they decided to slap onto background characters.

Female characters with a sense of shame/accountability, and able to admit fault, make for good stories. Hollywood needs to re-learn that flawed characters are interesting characters, as long as they still retain a classical moral compass.

No idea why they keep making new ST shows as grimdark struggle shit. The entire point of TOS/TNG was that the SJWs had won: the Federation was diverse, likeable, and balanced. But the more recent shows have ignored and dismissed that to drag their characters through grittier storylines that are more suited to reflect present day events. The showrunners really have no clue.

Really liked that their future space dock is a giant fidget spinner.

I literally saw some Gawker article that was

"Seth MacFarlane says The Orville isn't a sci-fi spoof. HERE'S 5 SCI-FI SPOOFS THAT SPOOFED SCI-FI WAY BETTER THAN THE ORVILLE"

I blame Fox for selling the show like it was a Trek parody, and not an unofficial TNG spinoff, which is what it basically is.

I liked it a lot. It wasn't really great, but it's the first thing that's felt like TNG to me, since TNG went off the air. 3rd episode sounds like it truly sucks, though
