He's competent, knows blockbusters, and just finished the planet of the apes triology that was actually decent. He ought to know great special effects / CGI characters as well as long term development and arcs.

As much as I would love to see a Star Wars movie directed by Lynch exploring the dark side of the force and the state of mind it has on its users I think he fucked his chance with mainstream blockbusters when Inland Empire came out.

It'll probably be the District 9 guy or Ridley Scott.
