I'm sick of hearing you poorfags complain about not being able to see new movies and waiting for shitty camrips. This is $9.95 a month now. You can see one movie every day. You have no excuse anymore.
>>
I wish there was this sort of thing in England...
>>
LEELOO DALLAS MOVIEPASS
>>
>>87640128
This week I've gone to
>Wind River
>Logan Lucky
>Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
>It
>The Hitman's Bodyguard

Moviepass rules even if it is the reason I saw It and The Hitman's Bodyguard.
>>
>/tv/ - commercials and advertising.
>>
>>87640485
Cineworld and Odeon do similar schemes.
>>
>>87640485
>>87640573
Cineworld unlimited. The clue is in the name, unlimited screenings. You also get invitations to special screenings and advance screenings and discount on food and drinks. It's dope but is a 12 month contract
>>
not for £8 a month.
>>
>>87640557
Did MoviePass cover Close Encounters Of The Third Kind?
>>
Australia doesn't have this, that's why. I saw IT with a student discount for $17, which is about $13USD. It's bullshit.
>>
>>87640128
Why pay 9.95 a month when I can watch them all for free in the comfort of my home goy?
>>
>>87640702
Yeah
>>
>>87640128
0.15 dollars etc.
>>
>>87640744
Perfectly fine. Just don't beg for fucking camrips on here.

This. Kodi FTW
>>
Eh, I've been thinking about it but I'm already paying for Netflix and Hulu so I still haven't made up my mind whether I need it or not. Ive been toying with the idea of canceling either Netflix or Hulu and then getting this moviepass thing.
>>
it is pretty amazing honestly
>>
If this turns out to be a "success" it will only lead to a further reduction in overall quality and more shitty sequels churned out even faster. Anyone who participates in this trash is a fool.
>>
>>87640811
Thanks for the inside look at your thought process anon, just fascinating, truly. If you change your mind, or think about changing your mind, keep us posted.
>>
>>87640779
What are you trying to say?
>>
>>87640805
Kodi is dogshit for stuff in theaters or recently out of theaters. I tried to watch Split and it played me some rom com about bowling. I got 30 minutes in before I realized James Macavoy wasn't going to show up.

this
i'll pay full price if it means actual quality cinema

Cinema sales are at an all-time low right now. This is the only way to get people to start going to theaters again.

wait, you pay $10 a month and you can go to 1 movie every day without further paying?
>>
>>87641300
Yes. Some theaters you can buy an e ticket ahead of time. Most you need to be at the theater to check-in and get your ticket.
>>
I don't enjoy the theater. Or not being able to pause the film or even finish it later. I don't like being locked in a room for two hours with a bunch of strangers and someone kicking the back of my seat.
>>
>>87641406
That's why I bring a gun to the theater, if some snotty nose kid starts kicking my seat it will be the last thing he ever kicks. It's nice being an American.
>>
>>87641215

very well said
>>
How is this even profitable? A single movie ticket cost more than 9usd doesnt it?
>>
>>87641406
I didn't ask about your autism. I'm only saying that nobody has any reason to complain about not being able to see new movies when they come out.
>>
>>87641484
Probably because movie theaters know people will buy overpriced popcorn and soda and shit. They could make no money on the movies and still be profitable. The trick is to get people in the door.
>>
>>87641484
It's not profitable. Their plan is to corner the market on this idea and figure out how to make money later.
>>
>>87641484
Because a person who subscribes is now paying the equivalent of 13 movie tickets a year, which is more than what most peons go to see
>>
>>87641538
But moviepass doesn't make any of the money off concessions.
>>
>>87641574
But moviepass still has to pay for all these movie tickets.
>>
Can you used this if you don't have a (((smart phone)))?
>>
>>87641605
yet they get data on the customer viewing habits. thats the money maker
>>
>>87641605
There's no way they're paying full sticker price, they're filling seats that would otherwise usually be empty. Like Expedia for theaters
>>
>>87641579
Oh I thought you were asking how movie theaters are still profitable for letting people in. You are talking about the actual card or app for $1 a month? It's pure profit. I don't see your actual point.
>>
>>87641657
They have no deal with the movie theaters. AMC theaters hates this idea but you can still use your moviepass there.
>>
>>87641680
>$10 a month
typo
>>
>>87641635
No. You have to use the app.
>>
>>87641605
There is no way that moviepass pays more for the movie tickets than they charge their customers. That's not a sustainable business model and not how business works. You are mistaken somehow.
>>
>>87641680
>It's pure profit.
No. It's pure loss. They get $10 a month. MoviePass still has to pay for your tickets. You could see 30 movies for $10 each. $290 loss.
>>
>>87641716
>You have to use the app.
I'm not seeing why this means you have to use a phone.
>>
>>87641768
How are they getting a discount then? Why would the movie theaters comply with this? They could start their own individual versions of moviepass and make more money.
>>
>>87641836
You need to be at the theater with the app to get your ticket.
>>
>>87640128
'Following the announcement of MoviePass's new model in August 2017, AMC stated that it was "actively working now to determine whether it may be feasible to opt out and not participate in this shaky and unsustainable program", as "by definition and absent some other form of other compensation, MoviePass will be losing money on every subscriber seeing two movies or more in a month", and that lowering its prices in response to the service would harm the customer experience.[4] The service's original pricing depended on a business model similar to those of health clubs, where the company would profit more if customers paid for the service but only used it on occasion.' weierd
>>
>>87641870
Yeah. They'll probably make quite a bit on people that start this and then forget they're even paying for it and never use it. Lotta dumb people.
>>
>>87641836
the website literally says you need to use your phone
>>
>>87641798
Only an idiot would think that MoviePass would go into a huge net loss proposition with *possibly* the opportunity to monetize it later.... by selling movie data? I am highly skeptical of this. I think its a ploy by the movie theaters who know they are losing a ton of revenue to online streaming and pirating sites so they needed a way to recoup their losses without people catching on. They make a ton of their money from concession stands so they need a way to get people back in the theater. Whats even more suspicious is supposedly AMC is against it. Bullshit. AMC would be happy as shit to get people going back to the movies again. I'm not buying that or this stupid ass shill thread. I'll watch most of my movies at home like a reasonable adult, thank you.
>>
>>87642108
>I think its a ploy by the movie theaters who know they are losing a ton of revenue to online streaming
It's owned by the co-founder of Netflix though.
>>
>>87641574
People will be much more willing to see multiple movies a year for that price. People don't go to many movies anymore because it's too damn expensive.
>>
>paying for things
haha suckers
>>
>>87642148
Then he was the one who pitched it to the movie theaters and they jumped on it. I can't see this getting off the ground without the movie theaters being in on it. Why start this service unless you could at least get discounted/free tickets. It makes no sense at all. Some type of arrangement was brokered here and they aren't letting the public in on it.

I don't think you understand that the tech industry is mostly built upon a large bubble and more imaginary money than the banking industry. Most startups are so far into the red with no way to make a profit in sight. Hell Uber is built upon losing shit tons of money to get a market and people think they are an amazing success.

>>
>>87643337
Uber has a sustainable business model. They always have. They lose money to competition (Lyft), not because they are in a habit of paying their drivers more money than they receive in revenue. I don't know any successful business in the world with "let me buy something and sell it for less!" as its business model. Some businesses give away product for free to stimulate growth but that's just a marketing tool. What you are saying Moviepass is doing is retarded on many levels. Either its a huge scam or they are being dishonest and have a contract to receive discounted tickets from movie theaters. Either way its pissing me off enough to never use them.
>>
>>87643673
Literally for the rest of the year there's at least two movies worth seeing coming out every month.

First off, its really not. I was subscribed to moviepass for a year back when it was 30 bucks a month. Worst thing that would happen is sometimes a certain movietime wouldn't be in the app. Normies would see that and pay the ticket price and give it one star on the appstore. You just call them and say what movie you're seeing and they do it manually, it takes like 5 minutes.

Question for the anons that have actually used it - when it says you can see "one movie per day," does that mean there is a 24 hour time limit you have to wait or can you actually see another movie in less than 24 hours as long as it's the next day?

No. Since it only covers standard movies, not imax, 3d, dobi digital whatever, it will encourage theaters to soft ban movie pass by reducing standard screens in favor of special ones. Then they will come out with their own chain specific unlimited pass that costs more but covers all screen types.
>>
>>87645715
Those are all me. Very good.
>>
I was reading online how some people are using moviepass to get additional benefits.

Some people have gone to the theater if they are nearby, claim to go see a movie so the card gets loaded with money, and use that money to instead buy a loadable gift card for the theater and do that as often as they can to get a loaded gift card for concessions.

Also, because the card just loads money on it and doesn't actually know if you are going to see that specific movie at that showtime (they just think it, so that skews their data collection I guess), you can use the moviepass for a 3D or special showing kind of. Just select the 2D showing of what you want to see so the card gets the money loaded, then ask for the 3D or whatever, and pay the difference.

Yeah, it's not perfect but here a regular showing is $8.50, a 3D is about $11.50, so paying $3 out of pocked is alright I guess.
>>

If it's free they most definitely will. Right now no one goes because it's expensive. If they could just go anytime they want they'll go to random movies they don't even want to see just to get out of the house and play with their phone the entire time not watching it.

MOVIEPASS IS A TOTAL SCAM

I don't think you can do that anymore. From what I've read you need to take a picture of your ticket stub to prove you're actually seeing the movie.

sheit.
>>
>>87644291
If it changes you just cancel. But the new pricing is new, so who knows if they will change it in a year.
>>
>>87645942
That's a good idea. It' basically like using a gift card to buy another gift card, which I do all the time to get Amazon gift cards instead of some shitty place I don't go to.

I've seen movies at Cinemark without an issue, but I want to know if I can watch it at AMC as well.

has anyone used it there?
>>
>>87646413

that was the old way, there is a still a lot of old information around. Apparently it has been changed to 1 movie within 24 hours.

According to Twitter, you can also see the same movie more than once, so long as it is 24 hours from your last movie viewing (see 1 movie within 24 hours)

the card covers the cost of a standard version. You could go to the ticket counter after checking in to a time slot and get a ticket for an imax or 3d viewing, after using your moviepass card, you just pay the difference of the ticket price.

so yeah you can, but it'll cost you a dollar or two

Uber loses money on pretty much every ride they give. Between all the driver incentives, low ass fares, and tip matching they will never make money. They need to jack the price of the rides up by at least 30%, or cut the much they pay the drivers. They need to survive long enough on investor money to kill the competition, including taxis, or they are dead. If they raise their prices people will just go elsewhere.

The goal of these tech companies is to lure people in with low prices then gouge them down the line when they are the only game in town, the classic drug dealer method.

You pay $9.95 up front but your month doesn't start until you get the card. You can start it early if any theaters near you have e-tickets though. You don't need the card for that.

For all of you doubting - I finally got my card last week (waited 3 weeks). I've seen 3 movies already with this thing. Great service once you actually get the fucking card.
>>
>>87648195
No. Within the moviepass app. You pick your showtime and it gives you a code. Show up at the theater and get your tickets at the kiosk thing. The theater will have a red ticket next to it if it's an e-ticket theater.

For most places you have to have the card.

A few theatres accept E-tickets. With that, you just select a time in the moviepass app like on fandango then show up at the theater with a code. Very few do etickets though. Only 2 theaters in the whole Atlanta area for example.

>>
>>87640128

If I can watch it at home, I gladly pay this right now. I would gladly pay five times as much, or more. Ten times as much.

The main reason I torrent isn't the money. That's not a problem. It's the people in the theater I can't stand and the associated theater experience. I just have a more enjoyable time watching it at home comfy, eating and drinking what I like, pausing it if I have to take a piss. No driving to and from theater. No idiots. Can have a beer if I want to.

With Moviepass you still have to experience the worst part of the going to a movie; going to the theater itself. Until they fix that I'll just torrent.
