When /tv/ tricked me into going to see a movie in the theater for the first time in 5 years and this was the fucking turd I broke the streak for. I am easy to scare. I can be kept up at night for weeks over subtlety scary things, or even scary imagery. This movie had absolutely fucking nothing except jumpscares. If you told me it was rated PG-13 I would believe you because it felt like every other god damn jumpscare-filled nu-horror movie made for the largest audience apart from like 2 scenes with gore.

I just saw this today. I thought that literally everything without Pennywise was good. Every "scary" part was dogshit and ruined the movie for me.

Rate my taste.

It was kind of like the goonies, it was cute I guess. I've noticed a lot of like 80s nostalgia movies in the last couple of years, like there was super 8, tron, both guardians of the galaxy, this, then there's gonna be ready player one.

It made me really sad though. something about the fact that it had a happy ending made me feel like i just wanted to lay down and stare at the wall for hours, like I'll never be a kid again, the girl was cute, blah blah blah just normal feels shit.

In the end the consumer holds the power over cinema. If the consumer isn't happy about the product it will tank. IT succes doesn't come from people loving the movie, it comes from nostalgia (People who watched the mini-series as kids are now grown consumers) and the fact that the book is in mosts peoples Top 3 King books.

Look at Ghostbusters, people didn't buy into it even if it was showed down the throats on every person in the world (excluding china) and it still tanked hard.

If the movie is decent, it will have a slight drop after opening weekend. If it's shit it will have a huge drop. If it's a hidden gem it will have an increase.

Isnt what's scary relative to the person watching? I dont mean that some people can handle clowns and some can't but that some people dont really get scared by scary movies. Because movies dont scare me. Not psychological horror, not supernatural horror, nothing. No matter what the movie is, in the back of my head I still know that I'm watching a movie and watching a movie doesn't mean a psycho killer is going to murder me coincidentally on that same night. I havent gotten caught in a jump scare since The Ring came out. Apparently I'm not very good at getting engrossed in this stuff. I'm not just talking recent things I'm also talking about all your great classics that everybody says are scary.

I still like watching them though. I've been into this stuff since I was a kid. So I don't really consider the amount of scariness it has to be the end all be all when judging a horror film. Nah fuck yah, this adaptation deserves it. I've sat through way too many horror movies, me and two other friends would get together and marathon horror movies every weekend back in 8th grade and none of that prepared me for this film, it was really good. The evolution of CGI technology really benefited this film, the contortions of IT's face were actually really terrifying to look at.
Contrast in tone and having a lot of it be comedy helped it, by the end you haven't watched just some "scary movie", it was a story that had a journey and enjoyable characters that you end up rooting for, at least I did.
I was about to jump onto the hipster bandwagon and say "tim curry was better" because to be honest it just gave me a sense of superiority when in reality I had know idea what the fuck I was talking about cos I never saw the 90's adaptation, and I'm pretty sure neither did half the people who say it was better, I just know how people are.
This movie was good, the polarising views prove that it didn't just go for mass appeal and instead made sure to please its target audience as much as possible even if it comes at the cost of alienating others.
Ofcourse with how popular it has become a lot of people who didn't truly catch the appeal will say they loved it anyway just to fit in.
