The late 70s/80s/early 90s had some weird sex shit in horor books just for the sake of it. Is the book really that beloved? I'm not saying it was never popular or well-liked, but I always got the impression that was because of the miniseries more than anything, and people seem to hold King's other works like The Shining and The Stand in higher esteem. It's not one of his best.

When people say they like IT, they're almost always talking about the flashback/kid segments. Nobody gives a shit about the Losers when they're adults because King writes them so blandly compared to their younger selves, and the book's most memorable scenes happen when they're young.
tbqh those segments are the book's biggest strength and flaw because everything that happens in the 1980s scenes is so stupid and lifeless in comparison. King should've just made the entire book about the kids and saved the adult stuff for a sequel.
