I just watched 5 and the first five minutes are better than anything in 4. Overall it was much better than expected and I'm happy where it ended. It kind of redeems 3's ending for me. My only complaints are there were some inconsistencies with the prior films, and some characters I wish had returned or at least been mentioned (Bootstrap who?). I felt it had reclaimed some of the heart missing from 4. Barbossa was great as always, and I really liked Carina. Will's son was much better than 4's not-will. Depp wasn't carrying the entire weight of the film on his back this time, and that's when Jack works best.

I know the Henry/Will story was supposed to be the backbone of the film, and it was fine, but her and Barbossa stole the show for me and added the emotional weight that was sorely missing from 4. Props to Rush, when Barbossa figures out she's his daughter he plays it so damn well for the rest of the film and it's genuinely moving. Also credit to Kaya, her "For a moment, I had everything," could've been sappy, but it was well delivered and made you really feel for her at the end.

Set it up as Barbossa seeing Henry as his own lost innocence in a way, Henry is youthful and good at heart, while he's old, cynical and shriveled.
