Was this supposed to be scary?
>>
Please tell me all these IT footage bits i'm seeing aren't real cause they all look really bad.
>>
>>87544796
This is real, yes. It's a lot more unsettling within the context of the movie.
>>
it's okay/10. definitely borders on comedy as with a lot of the scenes in the film
>>
Reminds me of that scene that completely ruined ruined Insidious where you see the demon sharpening his nails while this retarded song is playing.

>>
Literally any scene from any horror movie ever can be made not scary or even funny when viewed in isolation and/or without context.

The scene was more surreal and unsettling. Could it have been better? Sure.
>>
>>87544447
In a Lynch sort of way but without understanding Lynch at all.
>>
>>87544447
Don't think so, my entire theater belted out laughing. Also I think the clown was just fucking with her at that point.

i'm not sure what the fuck they were going for there unless it was a weird ghostbusters reference. for some reason they didn't wanna drop the clown thing (protip it's not really a clown).
the next part (with the lights in his mouth) seems to be hinting at the deeper nature of It and it's right after you first see the lair so I guess it's meant to be something like that--the book gets a lot more high concept with what It really is and I was kinda sad the movie didn't go deeper with that

like i don't think anyone's gonna get that scene unless they've read the book

anyway the movie owned and /tv/ is being characteristically retarded about it
>>
>>87545002
Eh. It's worth the ticket price in my opinion. It's a flawed movie and a flawed adaptation, but it's entertaining and fascinating nonetheless. I say this as a hardcore fan of the novel.

Penny captures the girl and is trying to frighten/fuck with her to make her scared so he can eat her. He was desperate at that point because the kids weren't really scared anymore.

>>87545002
movie is solid as fuck

i legit can't tell whether /tv/ is nothing but shills from different studios trying to convince everybody to never see any movie ever at this point. this board has become unbelievably retarded and thinks everything is bad and not even in a "haha everything is terrible" way
>>
>>87545061
the background makes me think this is meant to depict It's arrival on earth, like the comet impact

It's a reference to guardians of the galaxy, the "dance off bro" scene.

People who pretend clowns are scary and that shitty remakes are kino will pretend to be scared or "unnerved" by that.

It's supposed to be unsettling I think. I would be weirded out if I saw that in real life, so in theory it could be a little creepy. I haven't seen it in context yet but from that it looks silly.
>>

Even though I know how fucking dumb this joke is I laughed anyway. Thanks

I felt that the IT clown in the movie was a more accurate portrayal of book IT. Even though Pennywise didnt transform into the same things in this movie, in context, who the fuck is scared of Bella Legosi's Dracula, Werewolf or Mummy?

The saddest part of this is that hollywood continues to make movies off of books that they cannot accurately portray because if they did major groups of people would shit themselves...even though the same groups read the books.

Honestly super glad that this summer movie numbers were shit. I havent seen a movie since green room and dont plan on watching this endless garbage anymore.
>>
>>87544447
scary? no.
demented? yes.
>>
>>87544447

Not a scary movie is it, most likely a scare fest for young kids to understand to fight back to what scares you

Fears = fight back
>>

Jeepers Creepers 3
>>
Anyone here seen the Mist and/or the Under the Dome tv shows? Also, aparently a movie adaptation of Cell got released, was it good? Also why the fuck does John Cussack always do Stephen King adaptations? Are they friends or what?
>>
>>87544937
There's some Beetlejuice in there, too, and it works, especially when the audience gets the reveal that he only works if the target is afraid.
>>
>>87545975
He does do the same thing though. He transforms into the fears of the children of the Loser's Club. Those fears were just adapted to a more modern audience. Also, book Pennywise is described as a worn looking clown in a silver clown suit with a lazy eye

They got that pretty spot fucking on

I hate that I feel this way. Their time as kids could have been split into two films, with them as adults being the third.

They didn't have the time to create the bond between the kids that made them what they needed to be to defeat Pennywise.

He's the dancing clown. When his powers are diminished against the kids because they aren't afraid anymore, he resorts to instinct. it's actually pretty unsettling when viewed normally

>>
>>87544447

>you will

???
>>
>>87546559
Pepe, don't do that!
>>
I just saw it and, yea, this part was kinda awkward.

However, I would in no way say that the movie was bad. It could have done some things better (CGI when pennywise comes out of the projector wasn't really scary), but it had some legit unnerving parts.

Pennywise actually feels threatening now, instead of just some weird psycopath that'll kill you after a bad comedy bit.

In the end, seeing kids being killed unnerves me, and I was unnerved during the movie.

Pretty fucking solid/10.
>>
>>87546926
Time constraints maybe? I mean, he tried to make a "deal" with the kids as a last resort and he would take his sweet time torturing them unil they were afraid of him to eat their souls, he probably put her there as both bait and so he could come back later
>>
>>87547021
Yea time restraints. I didn't hate it, they did some fun things with Pennywise and the kids did feel like real friends (Stan's a bitch tho).

I'd be down for it being split into 3 movies if it meant them fleshing out a few more scenes but I understand that's a risk they apparently didn't need to make
>>
>>87546926
He was coming back for her.

Wanna scare someone? Show them the dead bodies of their friends.
>>
>>87544447
>>87544825
No.

It wasn't scary in context. It was just Pennywise showboating before he attacks Bev. There's nothing in that moment leading viewers to believe that dance was supposed to be scary.

The movie had a lot of really disturbing imagery and spooky bits which were great, but that scene isn't one of them. Anybody who says otherwise is lying.
>>
>>87547065
The true challenge will be making the second half of the series not shitty.

Good god that whole last half is so slow and tedious.
>>
>>87545002
Just got back, it was fucking good
>>
>>87545061
Leaving out the retarded shit like the ritual of chud was one of the better decisions. Stephen asking is obsessed with psychics and they're consistently the worst parts of every story. Touching on the origins of the monster like in the book would have been nice though.
>>
>>87544447
I'm actually not sure. Penny wise is in no ay a serious character, and in many scenes he provides laughs. But here there was so much tension and buildup that I was kind of dissapointed in it
>>
>>87547151
Did NOT expect to see an 8 year old lose an arm in a major film.
>>
>>87547158
Stephen king needs to take his own advice.

He used to go on about the unknown being way scarier. That things were way creepier when you don't know what they are or where they came from.

Aaaaand, then he explains how pennywise is some ageless, interdimensional being and that he's archenemies with a giant, interdimensional turtle.
