I used to watch The Edge with my dad like once a month. Gr8 flick.

I watched pic related last night. It's incredibly simple but very well done. I watched Valkyrie right after and it looked like plebshit in comparison to Conspiracy.

I honestly don't know if this movie is discussed much around here but I haven't seen it mentioned and I really liked it. Beautifully shot. Understated performance by Clooney. Gorgeous women and locations. It had a real old-school feel to it.

Tales from the Darkside: The Movie is an anthology film and one of the stories involves a mummy.

not really, after Mummy Returns, which was huge letdown for me, gave up. also forgot 5th Element and one of Bond movies (sorry, can't rmemeber title - would have to dust off as mostly are old VHS), these also have something egypt-related, not much but still

10,000BC is set pre Egypt but it suggests an earlier civilisation built the pyramids. It's a Roland Emmerich movie so it's...you know...fucking terrible.
>>
>>87538391
ye seen this, it was gods of egypt tier shitty, too bad coz beginign was actually fine, for such flick. rest sucked so bad
were these egyptian 'lords' some kind of aliens? i had feeling it was slightly connected to 'Stargate' or inspired by it

Alien vs Predator features a pyramid underneath Antarctica that maybe Egyptian or mayan.

Battlestar Galactica the classic series has a slight egyptain influence with the helmets and a card game called pyramid. It also has alot of myths thrown in, so might be worth your time.

Doctor Who has a few Egyptian inspired episodes. Pyramids of Mars comes to mind.

>>87537937
What didn't you like about The Mummy Returns? The retcons? Or the adventure aspect instead of horror?

There was a book that featured Alex O Connell reawakening the Scorpion king but it wasn't very good.
>>
>>87538625
hmm.. what i didn't like. There were few factors. !st one was more of adventure-comedy but still had very, very little horror feeling. Returns was literally made as family-friendly movie. Lot of holes and generally gave negative vibes.

Only highlight and thing i absolutely loved was definite ending. when broken-heart Imhotep gives up once Anck-Su-Namun leaves him. This was nice touch to movie franchise and ended sequels for good, but on other hand hated, how it killed whole 'eternal love' feeling mummy movies were always about. don't really know how to describe it.

The Offence (1972)

Directed by Sidney Lumet with Sean fucking Connery in the lead role and somehow nobody knows that it even exists.
A brilliant dark character study, classic Lumet pulls 110% out of his actors and Connery shows his wide range which is underutilised in other movies.
>>
>>87538927
It has only around 11.000 ratings on imdb so I would consider it at least a little bit obscure. Although I get your point.
>>
>>87538814
I agree with you mostly but enjoy it alot, it's not The Mummy but the adventure angle is fun.

The ending is good as well, teaches you the difference between lust and love.

ah ye, remembered 1 more factor i didn't really like.
how it was literal copy of mummy in structure, lazyness at highest level.

>Mummy: retrospetive story of main antagonist
Returns: retrospective story of main antagonist

>Mummy: Rick and soldiers team find city of undead, where he finds plot-key artefict
Returns: they explore something, finding plot-key artifict

>Mummy: action-filled plot leading to kidnapping one of main characters, to fullfill ritual
Returns: action-filled plot, leading to kidnapping one of main characters, to fullfil ritual

>Mummy: good guys use air vehicle to chase baddies
Returns: good guys use air vehicle to chase baddies

>Mummy: air vehicle down by gigant sand face
Returns: air vehicle down by gigant water face

>Mummy: heroes fight undead, to defeat antagonist from retrospective
Returns: heroes fight undead to defeat antagonist from retrospective

>Mummy: Rick fight Imhoptep, while Johnatan reads book with final help of Eve
Returns: Eve fight Anck-Su-Namun, while kid reads book with final help of Johnatan

>Mummy: main antagonist (Imhotep) is defeated, secondary antagonist (Anck-Su-Namun in this case) goes back to world of dead
Returns: main antagonist (this time Scorpion) is defeated, secondary antagonist (Imhotep) goes back to world of dead

>Mummy: heroes are escaping with what it seems like nothing, yet they still got some goods, and bad/greedy sidekick (Beni) killed by bugs
Returns: heroes are escaping with what it seems like nothing, yet they still got some goods, and bad/greedy sidekick (Aack-Su-Namun) killed by bugs

even timestamples of sertain scenes are nearly in same moments of movie. this was just very, very lazy cashgrab
>>
>>87539970
I understand. Maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia but I don't mind the callbacks. It's only afterwards it dawns on you that it's the same plot.
It's better than The Mummy 3 though, what did you think of that?

mummy 3 was... no comments. at least plot was not the same, but it was just lame, ugly (CGI was bad even at times it came) and forgettable.

however really liked new one, despite few flaws such as cringy humour and forcing universe building.
it tried something new, yet gently fan-servicing oldies, such as quote from 1932 at beginig or making mummy female, which can loosely reffer to Blood from Mummys Tomb (1971), where they replaced bandaged zombie with undead princess and turning whole plot to something fresh, gothic romance-horror based, yet placed in XXI century. loved some small details, such as isis destroying relicts of ancient culture or drone bombing. this was so XXI related. moving to london can be linked to 1959 hammerfilms remake, as it also takes place in great britain,

also, due to perfect balance of CGI and pratical stunts/effects, i think new one won't get so dated as dragon tomb or mummy returns. don't care for Tom Cruise, for me they could take absolutly anyone, took cruise for international release as universal insiders stated:
>[]...and the film is expected to do the majority of its business abroad, where Cruise continues to be a major draw. The Mummy will open day-and-date in more than 60 markets, including China.
>box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "If you look at [Universal's] Fate of the Furious, 80 percent of its box office came from international. Tom Cruise is an international superstar, and he remains so.
>Cruise's character will recur in the universe.
i guess people expected indiana jones rip-off, not actual gothic horror more like. probably 90% of moviegoers havent seen any other mummy than Brendan ones.
>>
>>87540834
The Yetis literally appear, that isn't forgettable!
I haven't seen the new one yet but I look forward to it, sounds good.
>>
>>87541030
thats the problem, sounds good, looks good, but theatral release was mess. don't be surprised. worth give a shot, as it surly is 'obscure' movie lol. at least will be in future

>>

>>

>DON'T BUTT IN LINE
mah nigga. also, the Bacon n' Eggs scene is pure kino.
>>
>>87541207
ye kind of this, or suicide squad. good compare. both of these have flaws and were panned badly, but somehow becoming cult in future, at least in certain group. but mummy 1 serious adventage is solid dose of practical effects. these capeshit flicks gonna be laughable in 10 years, hell, even now marvel's avengers seems to be so dated. mummy wont get old, and pretty much like we look at some 70-80s movies that hold up till todays, it will.
>>
>>87541366
Some shits in the trailer looked rough but I guess they were unfinished.
I always like Egyptian related media so it's good to have a list of things to watch.
It was nice talking to you anon. Sometimes /tv/ does deliver.

>>
>>87541582
ye, sure. It was always my cup of tea, so really track down everything related. Too bad 90% of these are so wrong and mistaken. Hollywood can't get anything right, they constantly mess up names, gods and places, and when something is right, it is so awfully done that can't be really watched.
