D&D are pretty good writers who are writing for content that is way, way over their heads. They're way better at single character narratives, much simpler stuff.

Their best stuff was done when they acknowledged the fact they were way over their heads, and the show as been plummeting ever since they've basically become showrunner rockstars.

They've gone from meek underdogs who were just happy to get their second chance after absolutely butchering the original pilot to cocky showboats obsessed with showcasing actors. They've let their fame get to their heads so badly that they show up openly drunk to the majority of their public showings these days.
