As if I need some sort of motive to tell the truth?

The Emoji Movie made almost 200 million. That shit doesn't say a damn thing about quality and you know it.

The only reason this is making money is due to stale horror tropes that normies eat up, and nostalgia tickets from people who like the book/miniseries.

It's shit.

It's just that it is so UNUSUAL in this day and age. This is the equivalent to the Bane Plane scene. It looks so fucked up yet brilliant at the same time so in short, yes. It deserves to be spammed. It deserves it's meme status, this is coming from an aspiring director / writer myself. Scenes like this are rare. Usually you'll have something that looks obviously CGI, this looks real.

>That shit doesn't say a damn thing about quality and you know it.

Quality is one of the many elements. Even Hollywood is getting upset about RT being a factor for the success of blockbuster movies.

It plays with conventional horror tropes while also doing new things, that's how you do a successful movie.

Anyone who says 2017 thinks 7 year olds just run head first into shit without looking where they're going. Get knocked flat on their back, and get up without so much as a single tear or trace of vertigo...and keeps going like it was a minor inconvenience.

Amazing how Georgie went out like such a bitch, considering he's a fucking 7 year old super hero or slap-stick genius.
>>
>>87510106

The new film was more funny than scary.
A little unsettling at times.
I like that it didn't go straight horror route. It makes the actual scary parts more meaningful. You actually have some attachment to the victims here.
>>
>>87510294

Would you even call this a jump scare? I mean you see him in the water for a few seconds before he rushes at Bill. It's not the same as a jump scare right?

Sounds like a case of nostalgia, bro.

>IT is actually an eternal demon that feeds on humans
>Curry's version is like some Pogo the Clown uncle, goofy with a smoker's voice
>Bill's is like an otherwordly demonic force who just wants to fucking eat humans

Please be honest about the material.

An eternal demonic force would totally just take on the guise of a clown from the 1800s and just keep that shit. Curry's version is like some dorky b-film monster with terrible transitions from clown to werewolves to lepers that have aged terribly.

Accept "nuIT" anon, accept IT.

This is the kino part and the best of Lovecraft. In his stories you always end up feeling sorry for the poor fucker about the munched by fish people or whatever. In this movie they take their time to get you to like the kids so when the clown is going after them it has a bigger impact. I wouldn't say it's scary but it's tense as fuck

I actually had the first nightmare in a long time a few nights ago about IT
No, not nu-IT.
A long time ago when I was taking a trip in the mountains with my family as a kid i was up late at night watching TV and there was a movie about a bunch of kids on. Then a fucking creepy killer clown showed up and totally freaked me the fuck out. Ever since then I've always been fascinated with this story.

Anyway, the nightmare went like this. I was talking to my brother (I think) and suddenly I noticed there was a hand on his shoulder. The hand was wearing a yellow satin glove on it. Suddenly I felt extreme terror as my gaze "zoomed in" on the hand and I heard a chuckling. I'm not sure what to make of this next part, but my butthole began to pucker extremely tight to the point where it woke me up. I'm not trolling just reporting what happened. Even though I was awake I still felt scared like what I saw wasn't just a random dream but was a vision of some sort. The rest of the night I had horrible nightmares.

Now I really want to watch this movie but am also scared at the same time it will give me more nightmares, and I'm not a pussy, I love disturbing horror movies, but will this movie fuck with my head?

+all the child actors were great
+Finn Wolfhard surprisingly owned the role of Trashmouth Tozier; he was the best part of the film
+Eddie's nebish germophobia and his fat Munchausen's-by-Proxy mom were highlights
+better explains why Bev hangs out with the Losers (the girls hate her too)
+climax in the sewer was done way better than even the book
+Pennywise was menacing and unsettling
+Pennywise growing teeth and biting kids is both horrific and an accurate portrayal of what's described in the book
+they kept in the poem and childhood crush
-'80s era is slightly at odds with the nostalgic, almost fantasy-like tone
-Jew had nothing more to his character than being a Jew, unlike the book and miniseries, where he was the logical one
-Black kid has even less personality than he did in the book and miniseries
-Ben's character is a little weaker than it was in the book and miniseries; he takes a backseat to Bill, Richie, Bev, and Eddie
-no slingshot
-Tim Curry was funnier and made more specific digs at each of the kids
-the logic of the kids discovering how to combat It is less clear than it was in the book and miniseries; they go into the house where It lives without any weapons the first time around
-overall, the movie isn't scary if you're an adult

Solid 8/10 film.

>overall, the movie isn't scary if you're an adult
I didn't watch the movie intending to be scared. I was more unsettled and disturbed. Greatly so.

That's just my take, being creeped out is a better feel than being scared. It's more of a lingering and lasting effect.
The dance for instance. Yeah, it looked funny. But there was something 'off' about it, really unsettling. The conflicting motions of the body and the head, perhaps. Creeped me out.

See, I keep seeing people saying that the leper and the corpses and pennywise looked way too CGI, but most of that was done with practical effects with real costumes.

I'm baffled by the hate for the film. It is legitimately good. Sure, it has it's flaws, but most of what people are ripping into it about here (muh CGI, muh nostalgia, Tim Curry was better) is just plain wrong. Little CGI was used in the film, most of the sets and effects are practical, and the film was objectively better shot, cast, and acted than the mini-series.

Anyone who says otherwise truly is being contrarian or hasn't seen it yet.

>+all the child actors were great
No. The rewriting of Ben's character was clumsy at best. He was essentially a Greek chorus whose contributions were to randomly spoon feed the audience plot points and background information using a vocabulary that he doesn't use throughout the rest of the movie. And then there's Mike. Useless Mike. He was more shoehorned than Ben and just took up space. There was no bond between these kids. Their personalities were homogeneous with Richie being the only stand out. The bullies were all those things and less, even compared to the TV miniseries. Everyone was expendable and only served as the most superficial conflict. The writing was just terrible. The setting played a part in this, I think. The pine barrens being the loser's club's hang out and entrance to IT's world worked better than the house on Nebolt.

He wasn't really funny though. It came off more as cringey. Curry's performance was hammy, but still charming.

I would rate the new IT a 6/10, the old one being a 7/10.

It could be better after I see Chapter 2, but right now, it didn't have that same "haunting" vibe. I know they were trying NOT to copy Tim Curry, but the way he comes off in the new one is just so out-right evil, you'd be hard pressed find him unsettling. Evil, yes, creepy, not quite.

Bill was the serious leader. Richie was the jokester. Stanley was the nervous guy. Eddie was a combination between jokester and nervous guy. Bev was the fearless slut. Ben was kind of like a puppy dog. Mike was . . . well, Mike never had much of a personality to begin with.

>>
>>87511208
>>87511195
Yeah OK maybe my first thought shouldn't have been why a creature would evolve teeth on teeth and how something like that would survive and instead should have thought screw it its creepy. Fine teeth are OK but what about Pennywise just sorta vibrating towards the kids early on? Like was it supposed to be creepy? Just sorta looked silly to me. Maybe it was just a result of some sort of "shaking camera". But I couldn't really take those few scenes seriously.
>>
>>87511823
In the original, all of the kids were generally pretty good actors, Henry Bowers was more believable as a sadistic bully, and the set-ups to all the scares made sense and a logical flow.

In the new one, the scares happened at random, Bowers was thrown in haphazardly and they took away his racial hatred, and only 2 of the kid actors were really any good. Even Georgie could act better than his older brother.
>>

Never said that, dumbass. In fact, I acknowledge there's CGI used. It's hard to do any sort of fantasy story without it. It's such a great tool for the medium. What I did say was that the director kept it to a minimum and relied heavily on practical effects--and yet it's still getting shit for being a CGI shitfest? Huh? Is any amount of CGI too much for you faggots?

>not an argument
Literally an argument. The original is being praised because people are nostalgic for it when they watched it as kids. By every objective measure, the new IT is better than the old IT. Unless you mean to tell me that old IT had better casting, acting, pacing, cinematography, set design, and structure?

>If you honestly believe that this new guy gave a better performance as Pennywise than Tim Curry then you are a fucking retard.

And yet Skarsgard's performance was much closer to that of the Pennywise in the book. His was a far more faithful adaptation of the source material, and far more genuinely creepy and scary. Curry's was a wisecracking corny B-movie monster. Skarsgard's is a twisted, pure evil demon in the form of a clown. Guess which of those is closer to the original story. Let me give you a hint: it isn't the one cracking lame fucking jokes every other scene.

To some extent.

There are no fake jump scares. No "loud music plays but it's really just the cat jumping on the piano, not the monster" nonsense.

That said, there are definitely some very real scares intended to make you jump. Pennywise often goes from standing perfectly still to running all-out towards the kids (and the viewers) in less than a second. There's a couple of time a monster pops up suddenly and freaks out the kids. Stuff like that.

And there's a lot of more slow-burn horror. Scenes where something horrific is happening very slowly and continuously, like the scene where Bowers finally breaks and listens to the TV telling him to kill everyone. There's nothing jumpscare-y about it it, it's just freaky.

Also, as >>87511943 points out, there's a lot of very subtle creepy shit in the movie, that you may or may not pick up on with your first viewing, but that is definitely there.

You're wrong but I'm too tired to waste my time writing a proper answer. Go ahead and take the validation, retard. Just remember to have a read about it, because there are many nuances that make the original a million times better than the shitty remake.

That's in Part 2

Maybe in Part 2. But he does go

That was a nice touch.

>meta physical being of horror is actually a demon in origin

Are you speaking in general, or specifically about IT?

Because it's only vaguely demonic, but it's more likely that it was a cosmic entity that consumed worlds until it was fought and nearly killed by a cosmic sea turtle, and IT now hides on earth, feeding off of children in order to recuperate.

Yea, Stephen King's drugs back then were pretty HQ.

A demon is a fallen angel, who joined Lucifer in the rebellion against God and were thrown out of Heaven.

IT would have been WAY COOLER, if IT was like one of Lucifer's high-tier demons that is just bitter as fuck and needs to feed on human flesh because people summoned it in a sewer and it pops out every 27 years by entering our physical world.
>>
>>87509656
It was the only corny scene. They did it to lighten the mood slightly cause its a demon clown about to eat a bunch of children.
>>
>>87512708

Like I said, King just shat on that origin. Would have been much cooler if IT was a former angel, possibly a Cherubim that joined Lucifer. Thrown down to Earth now is bitter as fuck because it can't go back to the Kingdom anymore because Lucifer basically used IT's ass.

King should have jumped on that Christian mythology route, it would have been kino because IT could be something that totally exists spiritually.

I had a feeling that they'd do something like that when I saw the room full of clowns, and I was really pleased when it turned out to be the case.

Also in that same scene, was
>VERY SCARY
>SCARY
>NOT SCARY AT ALL
in the book? I don't remember its been like 5 years.
>>
>>87512796
>King just shat on that origin

How?

>if IT was a former angel

Nah, it's much scarier to think that it exists out-side of religion, that IT exists as an entity within the material realm outside of known human knowledge, sort of like how people shat their pants when they realized the Earth wasn't the center of the universe.
>>
>>87512796
I was agreeing with you at first, but holy fuck that is some shitty fucking taste.
>hey what if we took this original world building and uhhhhh made it an edgy bible story lmao
>>
>>87512796
That would've made more sense why he had a witch minion and a zombie minion. I think they should of explained this in the movie.
>>
>>87512918
>minion
based fucking retard he's a shapeshifter
>>
>>87512796
>king just shat on that origin

But in the book it LITERALLY states that IT comes from the macroverse.

Do they show Beverly Marsh being gang-fucked by the other kids?

Do they show Nickelsmart dancing with a severed kids leg?

Is it liquid shit in her cup this time?

It is actually a good way to connect a mass audience to the character's backstory and motive as everyone in the West knows about the war in Heaven.

I thought the whole macroverse - turtle thing was just an acid trip King had and he decided it would have been a good idea.

If IT existed as an angel before in the Kingdom of Heaven and was a tier below Michael, Lucifer and Gabriel, he would have existed outside of time and matter.

Then the war in Heaven happens, he sides with Lucifer is thrown down to Earth.

Is a fallen angel and just turns into this powerful demonic force. Christian mythology is used a lot in film, stories, books, etc. it's not edgy bible material, it's just appealing to the Western market.

>Guess we really do have a shill problem.

We have.

A few example:
>"movie is almost out, and no thread?!" threads
>Star Wars threads (especially with the ones with too much prequel hate)
>Marvel vs DC threads (obvious divide et impera tactic)
>audience tests like "would this movie work?" ("would a female preadtor flick work?"), "did I like this movie?", etc
>forced advertisements for movies with all threads, even with negative ones

/tv/ is a honeypot for shills.
>>

I visit this place occasionally, just when I am interested in a new release, and i can confirm i have never seen this blatant shilling on any other board, in particular about IT

the only thing comparable was the windows 10 release on /g/, and maybe the RE7 shilling on /v/
