The Force Awakens made a shit-ton of money and still sucked.

The Force Awakens made a shit-ton of money and still sucked.

Is this film actually good?
>>
>>87496260

I think so, yes. It has a 2-hour run time but doesn't waste a single minute with anything superfluous. Every scene is shot either to develop a character or progress the story. Considering that there's 7 kids, a giant monster, people needing gobbled up, some shithead adults, and perfunctory storybeats needed to progress everything, I say the team responsible for the movie did a damn good job compressing everything into an enjoyable, coherent romp.

If you want a horror movie, look elsewhere; this is an adventure story with an otherworldly monster. But it's good.
>>
>>87496260
>>
I enjoyed it
>>

It's great.

Yes.
>>
Any '80s kids in here? Was it accurate?
>>
I went into It as someone who hates horror movies. I did't like this one.
>>
Just listen to the Steve Weber audiobook. The 1950s>>>>>>1980s. The book has lots of funny racism. The movie has NONE.
>>
>>87496631
It's much more than a horror movie. If you removed all the horror aspects from it, the chemistry between the kids and the setting was good enough
>>
>>87496658
Gtfo out of here, stupid homeschooler!
>>
>>87496260
It is average as fuck and not scary. I would put it on the same scariness level as the original Poltergeist.

The book is pretty awful, would not recommend. For every good part there's at least ten bits of superfluous rubbish that drag on and on.
>>
>>87496762
what would you consider a scary film?
>>
>>87496781

Honestly I don't know. Nothing scares me these days. I think tension building is what makes a movie scary. This movie was too in your face all the time and every scare was telegraphed as fuck. I was laughing most of the way through.
>>
>>87496775
God the part where he talks about Stans wife when she was young and how she's can't get over someone calling her a dirty jew or some shit.

Saw IT last night and it's worth the 13 bones I spent to get in. desu senpai I plan to go two more times. once with my lady friend and maybe solo. My mom pussed out. Sister lives an hour away, so she went solo last night also.

My fav scene is when Henrys dad puts the fear of God in henry and makes him cry in front of his bros.
>>
>>87496832
Ok then shut the fuck up. You don't know what a scary movie is then.
>>
>>87496832

Nothing scares any adult in a movie because you know it's not real and just a bunch of pretty boys making fools of themselves on a set, you only thought Poltergeist was scary because you probably saw it when you were a little kid.
>>
>>87496775
Fine. Go watch a cookie cut movie. Who needs a unique experience when you can watch a by the numbers coming of age 2 hour film? Not you apparently.

I might sound like a bit of a phleb hipster by saying this but after watching I think it was Psycho I can't really watch any 'modern' horror films. The suspense, leading up to the climax, and the thrilling sensation that I was left with for a good hour after the film was like nothing I'd experienced from a lower quality horror movie.

'Jump scare' horror movies seem so cheap, playing a constant drone sound that goes into one's subconscious which is abruptly interrupted feels too easy and cheap. I feel like true horror films are very difficult to make.

Somebody could probably make a 'watches Hitchcock once' meme out of me but my point still stands!
>>
>>87496872

What do you find scary then? The video tapes in Sinister legit creeped me out. Sinister as a whole wasn't amazing but the tape scenes were dope. I prefer more realistic horror, shit that could actually happen in real life is way scarier.
>>
>>87496769
That's just the first part of that scene. Pennywise is fucking horrifying.
>>
So what exactly does it show in the stormdrain scene after the "here take it Georgie" that they previewed

it shows pennywise opening up his razerblade jawline and biting into georgie. georgie flops backwards onto the pavement. it then shows an above camera angle and you can see georgie with one arm, bleeding out in the rainy street. then camera zooms back to the drain while pennywise stretches out and pulls georgie into the sewer.
>>
>>87496872
I feel exactly the same way as the faggot you replied to. I feel super jaded with horror movies because I've watched so fucking many. That's not saying I never get scared, I just don't get scared watching movies.

I thought It was a fucking great movie though.
>>
>>87497257
Changed it from the book, damn.
>>
>>87497101

Pennywise grabs his arm, his mouth opens wide and he has rows of sharp teeth, bites Georgies arm off, Georgie tries to crawl away from the drain while screaming, an overhead shot of Pennywise' arm stretching out from the drain, drags Georgie into the drain, fin.
>>

A guy dressed up as Spider-Man scared me more than a clown. I was 7 when my dad took me to a local comic convention. There was a Spider-Man that was there for you to get pictures with IIRC. Anyways he kept tapping me on the shoulder and when I would look over that way he would cartoonishly hop to the opposite side of me and top on that side. He did this 5 or 6 times. I don't know if I was just really me being retarded or if he was fucking with me on purpose. It made me very uncomfortable thankfully that doesn't come across in the picture.
>>
>>87498273

>>87498371
Man, that would make me uncomfortable as well. It's just weird when you're a kid and shit like that happens to you. Fucking Chuckie Cheese (the actual guy in the costume) used to terrify me even when I was like 9.
>>
>One month later, Beverly informs the group of a vision she had of them fighting Pennywise 27 years later. The Losers form a blood oath that they will each return to Derry should Pennywise resurface. After departing one by one, Bill kisses Beverly. As the end credits roll, a title card appears reading "It: Chapter One" and Pennywise's manic laughter is heard in the background; this dictates that the story of "It" will continue in the sequel, "It: Chapter Two".

>>87498583
There was always going to be a sequel, since the moment we saw any trailers and heard any interviews, it was clear th movie was doing the same as the miniseries, part 1 with the kids, part 2 with the adults.

Still, for not being terribly scary, it was very enjoyable.

if you think what Leto did to the Joker is comparable to the outstanding performance Bill did of Pennywise you must be LEGALLY retarded or actually Jared Leto.

+all the child actors were great
+Finn Wolfhard surprisingly owned the role of Trashmouth Tozier; he was the best part of the film
+Eddie's nebish germophobia and his fat Munchausen's-by-Proxy mom were highlights
+better explains why Bev hangs out with the Losers (the girls hate her too)
+climax in the sewer was done way better than even the book
+Pennywise was menacing and unsettling
+Pennywise growing teeth and biting kids is both horrific and an accurate portrayal of what's described in the book
+they kept in the poem and childhood crush
-'80s era is slightly at odds with the nostalgic, almost fantasy-like tone
-Jew had nothing more to his character than being a Jew, unlike the book and miniseries, where he was the logical one
-Black kid has even less personality than he did in the book and miniseries
-Ben's character is a little weaker than it was in the book and miniseries; he takes a backseat to Bill, Richie, Bev, and Eddie
-no slingshot
-Tim Curry was funnier and made more specific digs at each of the kids
-the logic of the kids discovering how to combat It is less clear than it was in the book and miniseries; they go into the house where It lives without any weapons the first time around
-overall, the movie isn't scary if you're an adult

Solid 8/10 film.

People were laughing at this scene at the theater

I hate normies so god damn much
>>
Where can I stream this, I'm 300 lbs and can't even afford to get up.

Wow! It was so good!

Going into it I already knew that it couldn't and wouldn't be as good as the book based on the time constraints and premise alone.

HOWEVER despite being about 1/10th of the book content wise it condensed it so well... way better than I could have imagined!

The big make or break was the characters and they nailed it. All the kids did so well and all but one of the kids got what they needed in terms of characterization and development (one got nerfed but he's so big in part two they'll make it up)

The scares were great and handled well, even the jumpscares avoided the formula and played good tricks with the camera. They don't beat around the bush with the monster you get some great time with it and they are so confident you get a good view of it all.

They even had a good replacement for THAT scene and didn't just cut all the content all together.

Wonderful movie, worth it as a stand alone. Minor nitpicks which is mostly because I've read the book. Go see it if you have any inclination at all.
