This new Pennywise has to be the scariest movie monster we've seen in years. Literally years. There's two scenes in this movie that absolutely sent shivers down my spine. First when Pennywise possesses the slideshow and we finally get to see his very creepy and mental face in the final scene. What a build-up! I nearly pissed myself.

The other one is in the basement, first we see the excellent performance by Georgie's actor. You'll float too never has sounded more epically scary. And then Pennywise rises from the waters. I jumped in my chair and still do when watching this. I can tell I will be on the edge of my seat in theatres this september.

The movie itself seems to capture that 80s feeling we've seen in Stranger Things and other important work. Do your part and see it in theaters. Be a part of history.
>>
I literally got home from seeing this movie just now. Was wondering how they'd handle the gang-bang scene with Beverly Marsh but... (SPOILER?) ... the slide before the end credits reads that this is "IT Chapter #1"

Anyone know if they're already into production of Chapter #2? Still waiting to see how they handle the gang-bang scene.

Half the fuckers in my cinema were high on something and nearly pissed themselves every 10 minutes.

I just love the chemistry between the cast
>>

I thought it was bad.
Overuse of cgi
the cast had bad interaction
their dialogue felt forced and written by a "hello fellow kids snapchat"
>>
>>87475258

So you're saying they don't even get down into the sewers and fight IT as kids in this one ?

Because right after that is when the gangbang scene occurs in the book.
>>

>Anyone know if they're already into production of Chapter #2?

maybe preproduction, but they still need to recast the kids as adults.

>It's been more than 20 years since I read the novel. Doesn't it occur later when they're adults and all grown up?

Nope, that's the controversy, they are underage kids doing a gangbang on Beverly Marsh, also it's her idea.

Bro, use some logic, if the fucking happened with the characters as adults then there wouldn't be much a controversy around it.

Best horror movie of the decade hands down, solid 8/10. They'll fuck up the sequel though, the kids are the best part of the movie
>>
>>87475085
Reminder there was not an orgy in the novel.
>>
>>87475467
I don't even think that counts as a gang bang. They each have sex with her one at a time.
>>
1000/10. A few things felt off and I wish Mike was handled different but pennywise was PERFECT and that's why I went to the movie
>>
>>87475085
High 7, possibly 8. It's the best horror movie I've seen in quite a while. Surprisingly funny, too. It's like Hollywood is remembering the difference between irrelevant quips and organic humor.
>>
>>87475295
If you see this one, all you're missing from the 90s one is Tim Curry as Pennywise. He did a great job for what they were going for. Skarsgard is playing a far different version, one that's more in the tone of the book, in my opinion.

Solid 8/10, only wish Ben and Mike were more fleshed out, especially since it can be argued that Ben is the main character of the adult portion.

>>87477863

>>
>>87475085
I thought it was a good film, not perfect but very good and well worth the watch.
It's not a typical horror movie, so people unfamiliar with the mini series or the book might be disapointed, cause the movie spends large amount of time establishing the Losers' Club and their interactions. The creepy horror stuff comes in short bursts sandwiched between the Losers' club being adorable losers.

So high 7, maybe 8/10, would recommend.
>>
>>87475258
That blood brother scene was the replacement of the gang bang.
>>
>>87477863
Bit of everything really, some of the horror is fairly funny even. I'm pretty jaded when it comes to horror movies so that's not what I was really there for. I just enjoyed it for the adventure/friendship of the kids teaming up, but if you're fairly sensitive to horror movies you'll probably be frightened.

I saw it. It was pretty shit. Didn't jump once. Way too much boo hoo backstory for the kids and no backstory on the monster, Pennywise, which was the most interesting.

It reminds me of Mike Stoklasa's assessment that a lot of modern horror movies are like carnival rides that take you from scene to scene with no story to carry it through.

The kids were fun and had chemistry. That teenage girl is going to be spammed on /tv/ for the next year and in 3-4 years she's going to be a household star. Total cutie.

Sure, but you're forgetting that everyone pretty much universally loves the first part when the main cast are kids, the second half has never had the same charm.
Secondly, even if there is a chance of part II making huge profit, the studio might still be wary to cast several big name stars.

I'm not saying it can't happen, just saying that it's unlikely.

>didn't jump once

Is that a bad thing when you seem to be saying that most horror movies these days are just "carnival rides"? It seems like jump scares are integral to the carnival ride formula. That was one of the reasons I actually liked this one, it was just an entertaining adventure. The only time I was even remotely caught by surprise by something on screen was when Beverly hit her dad in the head and then Pennywise suddenly appeared behind her. And that was because every other scene I can think of had obvious buildup that didn't waste time. It seemed like there was always loud music playing and it was obvious when the "jump" would happen, which ended up making it not a cheap scare.

Really the whole thing reminds me of Muschietti's other movie Mama. That movie was barely a horror movie, it felt more like a fairy tale. This movie felt like an adventure with monsters and the power of friendshipâ„¢. Main thing I didn't like was lack of character development for Homeschool kid and the jewish kid. I think everyone else had more establishment.
>>
7/10
For what it was trying to do, make the horror much more garish, it was overdone and repetitive at times, and other times just gratuitous.
It lost the creep factor, which requires some subtlety, and the fear factor in parts because it repeated the same tropes over and over.
Leper for the 10th time, okay
Gaping maw for the 15th time, gee whiz
Jump scare with clown again, okay

That being said the actors were fine and the remake itself was pretty good. I'm probably suffering from nostalgia goggles because I saw the first one when I was a pre-teen and it freaked me out a lot.

Yeah King himself has said the scene functioned both to make the bond between the kids even stronger, and a sort of passage to adulthood.

"I wasn't really thinking of the sexual aspect of it. The book dealt with childhood and adulthood --1958 and Grown Ups. The grown ups don't remember their childhood. None of us remember what we did as children--we think we do, but we don't remember it as it really happened. Intuitively, the Losers knew they had to be together again. The sexual act connected childhood and adulthood. It's another version of the glass tunnel that connects the children's library and the adult library. Times have changed since I wrote that scene and there is now more sensitivity to those issues. "

You gotta be operating on a whole different meaning of "Jump scare" than the rest of us.

Please tell me she wasn't like this in the book, this bothered me the whole time I was watching the movie. She's a massive god damn slut and the movie keeps trying to convince you to be sympathetic for her.

The 'orgy', them having sex one at a time though, shows them turning mature before their time thanks to the trauma of dealing with IT. It's quite important.

>It's a Hobbit trilogy
Yeah, no. Fuck this shit.
>>
>>87482745
The movie takes the structure of the 90s miniseries, first half with the kids, second with them as adults. So it was kind of obvious from the start that it will come in 2 parts.
The book is like 1000+ page doorstopper, kind of hard to cram that into a single movie.
>>
>>87482745
I don't really understand what you mean by the Hobbit comparison. The book has friggin' 1400 pages and moves in two different time periods (plus interludes with adult Mike Hanlon discovering the history of Derry in between). This movie wisely adapts the part when they're kids and tells it in chronological order.

The movie stands completely on its own. If it's successful enough, there'll be chapter 2 eventually, when they're adults.
>>

Watched the movie. It was ok, 7/10.
All my complaints are about canon and that's all.
As for me, filmmakers depicted not so important scenes longer than they should and omitted or changed most of interesting moments of IT book. I understand they cut out Patrick murdering a toddler, but his death was toned down in comparison with book.
Both original tv series and this movie retell Ben's encounter with clown in a wrong way because muh screen-time and place, when it was at winter, not summer. For those who want to get similair experience in the movie better watch Corpse Bride bridge scene. Same rant goes for Mike's and Stan's stories, but I see why they did Black Spot reference.
IT is definitely not a horror. It's too simplistic to be a horror, unfortunatelly. It's an adventure movie that can be accepted by normalfags.
What's good that is both kids' and adults' peformance despite one or two forced moments. But I'd swap roles between boys that played Stan and Ed. David Mazouz could be Stan for an example. All Henry's scenes were good. Clown was great, but goofier near the end.
Movie format is bad for IT story. If they went for a tv show with extra Derry history episodes, that would be something.

It was entertaining enough. 3/5. The main problem I had with it, and this is no surprise, is how rushed everything felt. Trying to cram an 1,100 page book into 2 1/2 hours resulted in sacrificing too many good elements of the story. Keep in mind the adult portion of the story really only makes up about one quarter of the book.

They get naked when they're hopelessly lost in the unbelievably large, possibly eldritch geometry Derry sewers where they had discovered decades-old bodies of sewer workers, died having got lost, after the magic that allowed them (or more specifically Eddie) to find their way inside into Its lair by way of instinct started to vanish when It was vanquished, and they needed to rekindle it for a moment.

Did you not watch the movie? They did everything but show Bev's dad rape her. >>
>>87484312

>>
>>87484254
The movie making the pedophilia thing between Bev and her father is actually a point against the own movie. Why? 'Cause the villain of the fucking movie is a monster that feeds on fear, but it never uses that against Bev. It quickly turns into her father at the end in a callback to a previous scene. That's it. There's no rapy Pennywise. No disturbing horror scenes playing with Bev's fear. Instead we get a gallon of cartoon blood.

Fuck, even the leper looked cartoonish as hell instead of scary like an actual person with leprosy. Everything in this movie is a big cartoon. Nothing feels real and disturbing. It's like they tried to make it not scary by turning everything into a Looney Tunes version of what it was supposed to be.
>>
>>87475295
No.
>>
>>87484438
The blood represents her period that her father creepily talks about like a minute earlier
>>
>>87484438
Rapy Pennywise... Only there's her dad being influenced by Pennywise to start being rapy (well, again) at a specific moment to help Pennywise capture Bev.

Also, we don't need to show Pennywise being rapy. That would not go over well. Because it would be stupid. Regardless of what you said, it would be stupid to show that. Also, Pennywise is actually a she.
>>

>>87484659

>>
>>87484548
This actually brings up an interesting point. In the novel, everyone but Mike who stayed in town as a historian became great and successful in something that was foreshadowed as they were kids.

Bill told great tales and didn't stutter when he did so he became a great writer (which is another reason Beverly thought he had written the poem), Ben built a dam as a kid, and became an architect and so on.

But in this movie, Bill isn't shown being a potential writer. Ben doesn't build a dam, and instead its Ben who is the historian instead of Mike.

So... It's possible Ben will remain in Derry, and not be successful. While Bill goes on to become an artist (he is shown having drawn a picture of Bev in the movie), and Mike... I don't know... will own a chicken themed restaurant chain.

Scariest part: Library basement with Ben
Best acting part: The knife scene with Ben or Pennywise talking to Bev at the end
Most Brutal part: Georgie's death
>>
8.5/10

+ Pennywise, great actor, almost rivaling Tim Curry's performance, much more serious and menacing, intimidating, but not without its comedic aspects
+ Gruesome deaths like Georgie, some meaty horror moments like Pennywise sucking face with the jew, and not being afraid of moments such as this
+ Good actors for the kids for the most part, although I have a strong nostalgia for the old, subjective who is better
+ Good setting, nice locations, nothing jarring or out of place unless you count the Legos
+ CGI mostly kept under control
+ Atmospheric and creepy, actually fairly high IQ/kino for what it is

- CGI in spots is bad, such as the "giant Pennywise", mixed really. Some of his "creations" were a bit lame.
- Nearly Mary Sue levels of pandering with Beverly, she is the main character for a lot of the film so it doesn't focus on much on the other kids, I didn't mind but it's such a Hollywood move
- Score was nothing impressive, prefer original here

The 1990 original I'd say:
>Part 1
7.5/10, good kids, Pennywise is great but it's not scary, entirely for cheesy comedy and ham, Tim Curry carries it, without him it'd just be shit
>Part 2
5/10, adult actors are fucking AWFUL, Bill is a s-s-stuttering p-p-ponytailed faggot, I watched it just before this one and laughed every scene he is in. Tim Curry is actually in even more of part 2 but he can't carry this disaster. Still worth seeing for his performance. Ending is retarded too.
>>
>>87484438
>Cause the villain of the fucking movie is a monster that feeds on fear, but it never uses that against Bev.

In the books it is explained that Derry has a history of fucked up happenings that aren't directly caused by Pennywise, but it's likely that he influenced them indirectly. They kind of play with that idea in the movie, but the actual mythology of it all is really cluttered and messy. To their credit, they do show Pennywise telling Henry Bowers to kill his dad, but that's sloppy in that they didn't show him overtly influencing Bev's father, so if I didn't have prior knowledge of the story going in, I don't know if I would have necessarily related the two things together.

I liked the movie, but they needed to trim a lot of it down and streamline it to fit within the confines of the two hour runtime. The weakest aspect is that it never really establishes a clear set of rules for how the monster operates and what it can and cannot do.
>>

In the theater I was at last night during the library scene with ben someone from outsidt he room released a red balloon into the theater that freaked out everyone. Kinda had me tense for awhile after that desu.
>>
>>87485439
Fuck my country, we're neighbors with the U.S and still, it will be showing til' next week
>>
>>87485479
That sounds really cool honestly. I'm glad I got the theater to myself, but I also kinda wish I could experience the hype of people around me freaking out and shit
>>
>>87485448
You get full looks of both of them. You even get to see Pennywise's true form that they didn't even put in the original (The Drider isn't his full true form)
>>
>>87485369
>unless you count the Legos

What do you mean?

I desperately want to fuck Penny.

The dance. You'll know what I'm talking about when it happens. Also the projector scene.
>>
>>87483973
>when you have no tits so you just paint them on instead
>>
>>87485659
Most people miss it, but that's actually where you get to see It's TRUE form. You know the orange swirls behind him during the dance? That is actually Pennywise.

MUH ELDRITCH HORROR

ill be on a lookout, thank you
>>
the only thing im kinda sad about they could at least be a little more creative with the scarings, if they wanted to differentiate from the book
like a crack in the ceiling spawning thousand spiders covering the walls and shit
>>
>>87485712
I think so. When they're adults, Ben gets a full look as to what IT really is and he describes IT as "a pile of writhing orange lights"
>>
>>87485369
>Nearly Mary Sue levels of pandering with Beverly, she is the main character for a lot of the film so it doesn't focus on much on the other kids, I didn't mind but it's such a Hollywood move

I would be fine with that if they cut out some of the deadweight characters. Bev is the one who eventually figures out that the way they defeat the monster is to not be afraid of it, and so we need to see her going through all of her traumatic shit and growing as a character and developing her fearlessness.

They also switch some things around, like making Ben the town historian instead of Mike simply because Ben was going to be a more important character, but in doing so that makes Mike completely irrelevant. He and Stan should have been cut, giving us more time to focus on the core characters like Bill and Bev. Bill gives that whole speech toward the end about how it's harder for him to walk into his own house than it is to walk into the spooky house, but it would have been nice if we were given time to see that for ourselves as opposed to hearing about it in a monologue. It also would have been nice to see more interaction between Richie and Bill, and showing us how that relationship functions and where it's shortcomings are, which would help build toward the fist fight that practically felt like it came out of nowhere.
>>
Reminder that if you see this reddit-tier movie you are just contrarian cancer shitting up this board, and you will never be a true kino aficionado.
>>
>>87485799
Oh fuck. I need to see that again then, nice . I noticed a lot of little attentions to details in this movie which elevated it in enjoyment for me as a long time fan of the book
>>
>>87485729
What can I say? It's not a miniseries. There's a fuckton of stuff that just has to be let out. Even as it is one of its biggest flaws is that it just keeps rushing into the next scene with little time for atmospheric breathers.

It should be a 3-hour movie. They really should bring back intermissions, like with Titanic in the 90s, so you can stretch your legs, hit the bathroom, get refreshments...
>>
>>87485801
Since the movie was closer to the miniseries than the book in its adaptation, i wouldnt be suprised if Chapter 2 starts the same way as Part 2 of the miniseries, which means you can't cut out Stan.
>>
>>87485855
>>87485729
is there any word on Director's cut with more scenes?
>>
Just came from the cinema, it was objectively good desu, also MUH DICKKKKK
>>
>>87485938
I haven't seen the miniseries in forever, but doesn't it literally open with him killing himself? Why do you need that?
>>

Stupid inaccuracy of using this one color of legos that weren't introduced yet in 1988. Everyone was autistic about it in a trailer, it's a meme.

>>87485369
I agree yeah, but I said I feel it's subjective whether you like the kids more in the original or this, they got almost more focus in the original because of the amount of spotlight on Bev in this. It's not the worst though, and I could see someone prefer the new kids.

Personally I definitely preferred the old Richie (lol Seth Green), Bill, Fat Kid and the jew. But old Bev was obviously worse, Eddy was a worse, and nigger was generic, though he served any purpose in the old as opposed to the new. He's like the black ghostbuster in that he exists to be part of the group without much development.

also I just know Mike/RLM will shit on this film and be contrarian.
>>
>>87486055
Because he kills himself and scrawls IT on the bathroom wall, prompting all the remaining Losers' Club members to return. The whole reason why they return is because Stan kills himself.

I mean yeah, you could write the beginning differently, but i feel it would have less impact.
>>
>>87485624
Oh god, not a tie-in with the movie, just in general. Actually now that you mention it that wouldn't have worked at all because that abomination of a flick exists.

>>87485689
It's not inherently about the eldritch horror, but the psychology. Spooky clown man exists because he lures kids. If you're scared by Pennywise and this dumb cash grab you'd have to be a fucking kid.
Psychological horror is the thinking man's horror.

Jesus Christ. I've been on 4chan for like six years now and the level of autism here still manages to surprise me sometimes.
>>
>>87486162
I haven't seen the miniseries in forever, but according to Wikipedia that's wrong. Mike hears about a murder and then contacts the losers telling them that It's back, which then prompts stan to kill himself.

Did they do the handjob scene with Patrick and Henry? That's probably your indicator for not having the orgy scene.

268KB, 1440x1080px
but most of all will they have Pennywise have a kissing scene with fatboy?
>>
>>87486691
That's when they are adults. The movie only focuses on the part when they are kids, so no, that part is not in.
>>
>>87486759
I know it isn't in the first part, I said will it.
>>
>>87486691
I could see it being made less subtle than the 90's one... like I dunno, maybe fake!Bev suddenly growing long wormy tongue and getting more vicious, and then it turns out she's actually Pennywise, and he says that line in a very vulgar tone while swirling his tongue and dribbling al over surroundings.
