yes. YouTube is developing premium services while also making money from film rentals. Channels themselves are generally moving over to patreon and similar systems.

Adverts are just a legacy feature of the old media system. The future is majority free content with premium content behind a paywall. Newspapers for example are probably gonna start moving over to a system where the actual articles are free to read but the comment section is behind a paywall.
