I've tried rewatching it but there is just way too much bull shit even in the first two seasons. Deb and Laguerta just suck and they take up so much screen time.

If you ever try to rewatch this show, you might as well try the "watch first and last ten minutes of every episode" for every episode except for the season finales and see if every episode is mostly filler scenes.

I don't plan on rewatching it anytime soon, if ever. In the unlikely case I do go back I would honestly just watch season 1-2.
So to answer your question: the terrible seasons definitely overshadow the good parts here.

Season 1 is the only good season. Season 4 is half good and half complete shit. Everything else is awful and not worth watching.

Especially season 2. I will never understand where the praise for that season comes from; it's about as bad as some of the later seasons. The only redeeming quality of it is Doakes RIP

Yes the shit overshadows the earlier seasons. Despite the uneven quality I loved the series for a while then it just kept rotting like a corpse that wasn't disposed of properly.

The rest were very meh and didn't impress me at all. Season 4 as well didn't feel like anything special and it's where I stopped.

Recently went back and tried to rewatch season one and really, really hated it.

Such a tenuous grip on believability in just about every scene. Supporting cast are unbearable and after a while it's like he's just trying to be...dark and edgy. I understand now why I loved this when I was 15.

The last seasons were terrible because they decided to try and make the background characters interesting by giving them backstories, the show worked better when everyone around Dexter were just gullible investigating crimes and shit, not introducing Masuka's daughter or Harrison's babysitter and giving them storylines

at least now you know when to stop. watching later seasons as they aired was deflating.

I did recently start rewatching it but I only lasted till season 5, dropping it the first episodes of the sixth, especially after that cringy Hannah McKay business.
Even the 5th season wasn't so bad compared to what followed.
