Jaime Lannister is a true Lion - prone to rash (but often foolish) deeds of heroism and chivalry. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything he has done for Cersei that hasn’t either been because she asked/threatened him, or because it has also benefited him in some way. But then he met his blue-eyed maid of Tarth. And suddenly he starts doing things - inconveniencing himself - putting himself in mortal peril for reasons he can’t understand himself.

To an outsider, the reasons for him doing these things are actually crystal clear. Jaime Lannister got his hand chopped off and jumped into a bear pit for love.

The show has been a bit inconsistent about winter. Stannis said it was coming and there was a rush to take Winterfell, but after that it seemed like it wasn't serious and nobody seems to be discussing it very much at all, even in more Northern areas.
