He probably made 250K-500k a year or thereabouts. Got a 1-3 million dollar apartment on mortgage and has been doing his current gig for 5-10 years. His place is really nice, but it's not brand-new.

property values weren't as retarded in the 80s/90s. That condo could've gone for around 750k then. Now it'd go for at least 20 million.
>>

He was totally slumming it for the previous Cheers years, probly saving up for his new life. His ex wife was also pretty fucking successful and they both worked, no kids. No divorce settlement ruining his life.

he has a son and did mention there was divorce settlement in an episode

His mother was from a wealthier family.

Between that and his professional career he was decidedly upper middle class. Plus it was stupid easy to borrow money in the 90s.

Flaw in the show.

Family didn't have money.

Show begins when Fraiser is about 40.

Wouldn't have graduated from med school until late 20s.

Even if we pretend he didn't have student loans (which is absurd), he earned that much money starting from scratch in private practice in10 years?

That includes 2 divorces.

Far fetched.

You've got a short memory. Agreed the anon at >>87366943 didn't do a good job accounting for inflation, but a place like that would have cost PLENTY during Frasier's run. He's not some godlike Old Money or Fortune 500 CEO wealthy, but he's certainly in the top 1%... which is rich by any sane definition of the term.

>>87367225
>He was totally slumming it for the previous Cheers years
I'd always assumed he was just a working shrink during Cheers, and made it big later because of his show / book. Nothing on Cheers suggests he was especially wealthy for a white collar.

>>87368809
>tv writers just can't help themselves
The dad would have been considered a conservative in the 90's. Keep in mind this is two decades ago, the US has moved a decent distance farther to the political right on average since then. And he's also an urban conservative, which tend to be on the more liberal side of that sub-spectrum. I didn't find the dad that hard to believe.

>>87368864
>Even if we pretend he didn't have student loans (which is absurd)
Again, it's the 90s, which means frasier would have been in med-school probably in the 70s. You're projecting current trends in education cost and debt backwards.

>>87369332

And irl rent controlled apartments are pretty much a magic wand that lets you live like a king.

These days you've got as much a chance as landing one as winning the lottery. But it's not inconceivable that a 20 something in the 90s would have had a grandmother with a rent controlled apartment.

And rent controlled/rent stabilized apartments are individual units mixed in with market rate units, which would explain the building maintenance.

You must be flipping poopy/old houses. I have seen lots in California, typically upper-middle class. More than one in a house would be exceptional. Some houses have three baths, one master, one shared between 2nd/3rd bedrooms, one downstairs for everyone.

The claw foot tub is old school though. They've made a big comeback recently.

>Yep. In Brooklyn right now. No of course not. But can you imagine shooting a tv show in an actual Manhattan apartment that people in their 20s rent? Too dark and cramped. Would look like shit.
That's a fair point, you've got me there.

Although... Friends was shot on a set anyway wasn't it? You could certainly do a passable job of faking it with three walls. Even if it wasn't life-accurate, you could do a reasonable job of making it FEEL right. To use a more recent example (for which I have no particular affection), How I Met Your Mother did a wayyy better job of doing the sets for basically the same exact show. That apartment is also unrealistically large (for probably the same reasons), but it feels a hell of a lot more authentic.

That's something I always hated about Friends, nothing in there feels like NY. Not the sets, the costumes, the characters, none of it. I mean, hell, perfect example - look at the sets on Cheers. It's not flawless, but you feel like you're in locations that could, for the most part, actually exist in Boston at that time. The setups and characters are sitcom-exaggerated, but they feel like they're based on real-ish people and situations.

The absolute nicest rent-controlled place I've ever seen was one a great-uncle of mine had on the upper east side for decades (later inherited by his daughter, incidentally), and it wasn't 1/10th the size of that place... and the building was probably 100 years older, with everything that implies.

Of course it's a huge financial boon, and of course those sorts of situations happen, but the reality tends to be closer to the Joe's Apartment end of the spectrum than to Friends.

>>87371870
>>87372089
Frasier on the other hand is a rich dude with a penthouse in a nice, modern building in seattle... I really don't see a problem with it.

>>87372522
Big difference if it's on the west coast though. In New York you're always dealing with old lots, old streets, old buildings, etc. It takes a ton of money to build new or to, say, buy up 2-3 adjacent units in an old building and knock out the walls (although it does happen). So it's way more rare.

There's been papers written about this. Nearly every fucking show on tv has the protagonists living ridiculously out of their means. Many tv protagonists have jobs where they might only make 50k, yet they somehow have homes/condos that would cost millions.

It's for a couple different reasons. One, tv is used for escapism and, up until recently, it was commonly thought that an honest look at the working class lifestyle would be too depressing to make a good backdrop for a show. And two, honestly, I think most Hollywood writers/directors/showrunners are actually *that* out of touch with how the other half live.... thinking it's somehow feasible that a waitress can own a condo that likely costs 3k a month.

I like to think the rest of his apartment is behind that mystery door.

he was also a high end therapist for years similar to Niles and his place after Maris was way nicer and presumably more expensive.
>>

>his place after Maris was way nicer and presumably more expensive.
no way brah. Niles and Maris where living in a straight mansion.
>>
>>87380162
I was talking about Niles apartment, not Maris's mansion. The one with 3 floors and a library with freaking secret doors.
>>
>>87380274
Oh, ok. But Frasier owned and Niles rented.
>>
>>87368864
The first divorce was when he was in college. 10 years is plenty of time to make up student loans, especially back in the goddamn 70s and then making your money in the yuppie explosion of the 80s.
>>
>>87369864
What makes you think most cops don't agree with this?
>>
>>87371769
Having your bed in the middle of the room was an interesting trend that shouldn't have died out
>>
>>87380438
What's you point? I was saying Niles had a shit ton of money if he could rent that place. And I was comparing Frasier's money from his previous occupation to Niles. I'm saying he probably saved up plenty before he got into radio, so even if he did get paid on the lower end of that estimate he probably had tons from being a therapist.

I didn't want to make a thread about this but I've been struggling

I'm very successful and I spent a month or so watching a few episodes every day

I feel in love with the show and it ended a few weeks ago for me, now I have nothing to watch or look forward too.

Not sure what to do, but dont want to watch seinfield or something....
>>
>>87370224
The show was actually criticized by feminists for trying to moralize Roz's sluttiness by "punishing" her with a child

Leave it to a polfaggot to find something in a white woman having children to get triggered about
>>
>>87380821
nigga i've seen every episode 15+ times. you have only dipped your toe the waters of the frasierverse.

I wonder if Marty could hear him having sex.

Psychiatrists typically make around 250k average around Seattle right now. Much more if you have a rich clientele, which Frasier probably did by the company he keeps and the universities he went to.

I have no idea what a local radio celebrity would make on top of that. Either way I always thought that his condo was waaaaay out of his affordability range. It was purely for TV. There were episodes where he was jealous of someone because they had the 7 series BMW and he could only afford the 5 series. Like if you could afford that condo you could afford the extra 25% over the 5 you nitwit.
>>
>>87381072
There was that episode where the plumber bused out an 'actually I have an S Class' on Niles too.
>>
>>87372136
Man... that's rough.
>>
>>87381072
i think the top talk radio guys make like 1 million a year. so he was probably making a bit less then that and he's still doing great.

>see 300 posts about a Frasier thread
>click it thinking its going to be good
>its literally /pol/fags endlessly bitching about Roz
>in the 10 years I've been coming to this cambodian 9gag, I've never once seen anyone complain about Roz
You fags have finally gone too fucking far. Frasier threads were the one thing on /tv/ that could always be comfy and you've ruined it with your faggy politics.

I fucking hate you all.

I think I have that same TV.
>>
>>87381423
i like to think it's a bunch of youngfags who just saw the show for the first time on netflix. which explains why they don't get things set in the 90's like money convergence and how things where just different.

she openly bragged to Frasier that her 2 best relationships happened at the same time
she also says she'd be happy to "lend" Daphne one of her boyfriends

this thread literally got derailed because some anon said that Roz was a respectable strong women which every Frasier fan who has a penis knows isn't true

It would freak me out

Cheers feels very old and dated, I'm not sure if I can do it

But if Frasier is in it, I'd love to give it a try

Indiana Jones. But for each adventure Indy went on, Ross got a divorce instead.

Cheers and Wings exist in the same universe as frasier. Wings isn't nearly as good but its comfy.
Cheers is arguably the greatest sitcom ever.
>>
>>87381217

Depends on the market size. People like Hannity make 10m+ and are national. How much would someone in a decent sized market like just Seattle make? Was he even #1?
>>
>>87381854

Simpson did it.
