Yes. Very well-acted, stylish murder mystery more in the Twin Peaks vein of "what does this murder reveal about the town and its people" rather than just "WHO'S THE KILLER, PLOT ME UP". Excellent music, and S1 in particular has good visuals. Brilliant cast. Generally strong writing. Chibnall's best work yet.

The_Janus_Conjunction.jpg

Just finished The Janus Conjunction and it'd probably be one of my favourite EDAs if I was able to choose favourites. It ended up being a typical sort of doomsday plot, except with radiation sickness and telepathic spiders, but it focused a lot on all the character stuff that arose as a result of what was happening, so it was either comfy as hell, or really sad. There were some adorable moments, and the Doctor took Sam on a picnic at the end, so wtf? mr baxendale plagiarised my shit trips entry 19 years in advance?

Also, this exchange hurt my heart:
>Do you ever get homesick?
>For Earth? Sometimes. Then I get homesick for somewhere else, or somewhen.
>Your own planet?
>Never. My home is with Sam.
tfw one of my favourite companions is sort of obscure and even when acknowledge, is usually hated. end my life

I listened to a third of it this morning, probably gonna finish it up tonight. It's not... bad so far, but not much has happened yet. I didn't actually realise how long it was initially, so my feelings on it will probably change a bunch as it progresses and more actually happens. I did notice it seems to deal with some mature themes that aren't typical of Doctor Who stories in general. Nothing major so far, but I can see why it was apparently never played on the radio.

>is it future or is it past
It's set after the period of time in which I placed my story, so thankfully it doesn't diminish the surprise that Sam had about the picnic in the shit trips entry.

>>87363012
Yeah, the plot really wasn't much - it kept me interested and was exciting enough, but I certainly won't be remembering the book for the telepathic spider shit. There was so much good character stuff in it, though, which was lovely.

>Next up is Beltempest. You'd better be ready for some mindfuck.
Only stuff I know about that one is the summary and it seems like it could get pretty weird, so I'm... tentatively excited for it.

Discussion question to nip the autism in the bud. Would you have liked if RTD went back and gave Donna a happy ending like Moffat did to Clara and Bill? On one hand, I want it, but on the other hand I didnt like that Moffat did that to either since it kind of ruined the original emotional almost deaths for me. Much less so for Bill though.

Heh, for sure. More where that came from. Writing to fans (who else is buying BF really) instead of general audiences really must be very different and liberating in some ways to the writers.

>>87363466
>Would you have liked if RTD went back and gave Donna a happy ending
No no no no no no no no no no, I'd have absolutely despised it. Endings are so vital. That sad ending let later writers develop off the ideas (the importance of mindwipes to the Zygon 2parter, Hell Bent, and The Pilot), neutering it would have just clumsily reverted things to a blank canvas. There are issues with Donna's ending, sure, you can argue that. But it IS an ending.

>/who/ has their favs but we arent dumb enough to let them control us. I disagree with Neo all the time, for instance. I mean he likes Clara

Moffat wrote Clara and Bill's 'deaths' with the reversal in mind.

If RTD had done that, following up Donna's memory wipe with a brief period of it being wiped and then ultimately a backpedal, I might potentially have preferred it as long as that intermittent period questioned the ethics of what 10 had done and found a better way of resolving the situation.

I wouldn't have wanted RTD to have done S4 the way it was, and then just gone back in the specials to undo it.

I'll give you Clara in S8 except the episode where Danny died. I liked here there. Legit dont understand why that seems to be everyone's least fav Capaldi series (outside the fanbase split over whether 9 is the best or worst series of nuwho)

Good point about the effect that ending has on later episodes, I may dislike Hell Bent (and I'm so much of a fag that I cant not say so when bringing it up) but I do like how it calls back to this arc which adds to the emotion and impact of that scene. Same with the Pilot except I liked it more. Actualy not sure why the Doc wanted to wipe her in the first place desu

>>87363947
hat's a good point, if he had a return in mind, the end probably would have changed a bit. But that probably wouldnt help because either they make it obvious she returns and the ending is undercut, or they dont and so its a huge tone sift and the ending is undercut.

Meanwhile, I'm over here laughing at the Scottish independence shit, in a story that takes place in 2003. And yeah, I'm enjoying the stuff with the Brigadier so far, it's interesting, and he's got a nice voice to listen to.

>>87363753
>Writing to fans (who else is buying BF really) instead of general audiences really must be very different and liberating in some ways to the writers.
Indeed. The main audience of BF will also be adult fans, too - at least, I wouldn't think audio dramas are at all appealing to kids - so that allows them so much more freedom with the concepts they explore. They can go to darker or otherwise more mature places that they never, ever would be able to on the show. The novels are, of course, like this too. I mean, there's always a limit somewhere, but part of the reason the expanded universe stuff appeals so much to me is because it has that extra freedom, and some of the stories feel a lot more dire and gritty and realistic. There's the comfy stuff, too, but the scary, dangerous things actually feel that way because they're not limited by what they can or can't "show" to younger audiences.

>>87364192
It does indeed. A lot of official pages will shorten words like that just to fit everything in.
>>
>>87364192
True, but there are ALWAYS ways to word things in a different manner to save on space. If you're gonna be a marketing manager, though, you have to find those ways you can be short and concise whilst still retaining professionalism.

>>87364224
It's not Scottish independence, it's devolution. Different things, and devolution was actually happening at the time that audio was made so it makes sense. Devolution is basically like Scotland getting something similar to the government structures individual states have in the US vs being ruled directly from Westminster.
>>
>>87364329

See, we warring tribes can get along after all!

That's something I love about Doctor Who, even stuff plenty of people don't like can get built off in ways they do like. I don't like The Five Doctors, but I still got hype when it had that big reference in The Time of the Doctor.

>Actualy not sure why the Doc wanted to wipe her in the first place desu
Just general "must protect the vault at all costs!!!11!!11!!" stuff I think? Since Bill saw the Vault when he checked it while on the run from Heather.

>Indeed. I think they should lean on this more honestly, they do so many stories that could air for kids just fine like regular TV Who. Then again a lot of people want that nostalgic familiarity from BF.

Glad you liked my 12/8 ones! I like doing "clip show" style stuff.

>how did you like the framing story?
I liked how it shifted from cool cameos, to fun interludes, to more intriguing out-there Gallifery stuff. The mental image of Beryl laughing at a Drashig story is gold. And loved the ending, especially with the YouTube channel shoutout.

I definitely agree. They have that sort of creative freedom, yet sometimes I feel as though they don't utilise it to its fullest extent. Not that every audio has to be edgy grimdark stuff, but there is good opportunity for stories that delve a bit more into the mature side of the Doctor Who universe. For good, clean, alien-fighting fun, the TV show will always exist. unless it is kill

The 13 Trips one and the start of the framing story. The former was really fun, and hilarious, and I really enjoyed the characterisations of each trip - it was funny without being outright offensive, which was nice.

The latter is in equal parts a great framework for the anthology, and also really intriguing in general. I really love the concept of it, and the idea of each fic being a story told about the Doctor from all these alternate companions is just wonderful.

I don't have any critique for either, desu. I don't see how either could be improved, they're both excellent through and through.

Some second coming of mongo is vaugely accusing a trip (i cant even tell which one, hes so fucking obtuse) of trying to "usurp" and "take over" /who/ by...false flagging some attack against immigrant? I dont understand the whole conspiracy. It doesnt even make sense, the Immigrant drama ended because multiple anons asked him to fix something, and he did. Now it's over. But this anon has a weird complex that apparently all of it, including a strawpoll with over 30 participants, was a false flag by some unidentified trip to.........get liked more than immigrant? What?

The 13 Trips was one very fun to write.

>The former was really fun, and hilarious, and I really enjoyed the characterisations of each trip - it was funny without being outright offensive, which was nice.

I was being very careful to not offend anyone. That's why, in the fic, I'm the first one to die, and also the one who gets the most offensive remark about ("naggy little shit about the fic") .

>>87367317
Immigrant can you please address the mongo-style anon to get him to stop, he seems to think he's doing it in your honour

Anon, I appreciate you trying to stand for honor. But this is a bit much. Please stop posting on this topic. My honour is fine.

>>87367377

>>
>>87367337
But /who/ is full of witnesses, and the reward for you would clearly be exposing this apparently devious trip. There is no virtue in extremis when hope, witness, and reward are all very clear external motivators here. I'm pretty sure you're trolling by how you've moved the goalposts to some weird RP about honor now though.

I'd be astonished if she affects a west country accent, as she did in Broadchurch, whilst playing the Doctor. People would relate it too much to Beth Latimer.

>>87368654
If you drink coffee/tea, go for that. I don't, so I usually just suffer. Don't make my mistakes. Eat something sugary for the energy, splash cold water on your face. If you live with anyone or there's other people around, go sit in their presence and try and engage in conversation. If you feel yourself nodding off, get up and walk around. Do something that excites you or engages your interest so it keeps your mind off the fatigue, but avoid any sort of "passive" activity like reading or watching tv.

Drop it, it's not worth doing conspiracy shit even if you think you "have a point". It literally never does anything good for /who/.
Also keep in mind lots of us here are pretty similar, we consume massive amounts of the same stories, are all culturally similar, we read each other's posts, so us using the same phrases is extremely normal
I'm going to be a massive hypocrite right now and repeat that I'm pretty sure it's Cats yes

I can't really imagine what other trip it could be. There's a few it very obviously isn't, and I just don't see the others having any interest in doing it.

Cats wasn't even online until around 15 minutes ago . And I talked to him on Discord; he's got nothing to do with this. He's actually a bit sad about his ban. There was no indication of him posting here.

>The posting style is very cats-y

Cats usually says who he is when he shitposts, and he would stop if I told him off. This isn't Cats' style.

>>87369843
I don't think he caes enough about shitposting to do that. And I'd tell him off, if I thought it was him.

Just happenned. If you friend me, and you're not a jerk, I'll most likely accept the friend request.

I know one or two other trips, and an anon. Surprisingly, some of them didn't know I was also on /who/ when they first met me on Discord.
>>
>>87370330
trips are people, some just get on better with others. cloister immigrant and cats all are closer to each other than they are the new trips. edge obviously is closer to neo than most other trips. mcganon talks to lymerence and neo more casually than to other trips. lymerence gets on with immigrant more than he does with cats. etc etc etc. you can just tell by how relaxed they address each other. just basic social stuff, some people naturally get on more easily.
>>

>>
>>87370459
Your general point is correct; although you're incorrect on who I know best.
>>
>>87370459
Yep, but it's literally the opposite of autism to casually recognise stuff like that, and it's not unexpected for quite a few /who/ users to not be neurotypical so it's not strange that anons mightn't pick up on the subtleties of trip interactions. Even more difficult with regular anons since it's harder to consistently identify them.

perhaps i misread, you two just seemed very warm to each other and i'd seen you slip up and reference that you had him on discord before. immigrant is a lot less warm and open about non DW stuff than neo in general so its easier to read into things with the latter i guess

How long is Paul McGann in Holby City for? Four months or longer? I watched it tonight and it was painful. I know, just because I don't like it doesn't mean others won't, but I don't get how the weak scripts and poor direction can utilise McGann's talent. I thought he didn't like bad acting jobs. Maybe this is his way of distancing himself from Doctor Who (cough, the-shitheads-at-the-BBC's).
>>
>>87371088
youre more of an open book since you open up about your issues more, trips like mcganon and neo are interesting because they talk a lot on other peoples stuff rather than their own, you are just as interesting but theres less to say because you already open up about yourself more
i hope you pick up more soon btw

>>87371158
what exactly are these non who interactions you have with other trips then? i see lymerence mcganon and neo spend entire threads consoling some anons (a certain one mostly) which has nothing to do with DW so im just curious what exactly is so offtopic it goes beyond that
>>
>>87370459
I thought cloister didn't socialize with the other trips outside of/who/? I dont think ive ever seen him even talk to cats and immigrant only about ST2. He seems weirder than the others and I dont get why he is so liked or respected. Its strange.

cloister cloister? he has a twitter but its private so idk if he interacts with others much on it. but hes very friendly on /who/ when hes here, the whole joke about him sometimes is that he wont actually talk doctor who so much, but will talk /who/res and /who/

hes tripped for a very long time and organised shit like the christmas gifts in the past, i dont think its that surprisiging he got liked. the longer a trip is around and doesnt acively annoy people, theyll get liked. counterpoint is amadeus who returned only to have people yell at him, cause he did actively annoy people when he tripped
