I always thought that was when they were their most creative and really had some heart for the series, they feel the most like what South Park is supposed to be to me.

I dunno maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I have fond memories of watching that first Mr. Hankey episode the night it premiered while my mom yelled at my uncle for putting it on.

I wacky first seasons grabbed me as a kid, I have no idea what adults thought of it. I remember a lot of media coverage of how shockingly vulgar it was, before vulgarity for vulgarity's sake was a thing.

If it hadn't evolved into the more topical show it became in later seasons, I doubt it would have kept my interests. It's why I watched like half a season of Venture Bros before losing interest. It's just too fucking random.
