These issues are undefendable
>no set design, feels empty and lifeless
>no interesting ideas for storylines and generally bad writing
>relies on gimmicks only instead
>those are unoriginal or just bad, unfortunately ("fuck you, albert", glove, andy and lucy, coordinates, riddles, ...)
>bad acting (Bell, Lynch, Horse, Robertson, Dern, ...)
>dull characters (one-dimensional at best)
>storylines and characters are introduced for no purpose
>everything is supposed to weirdly connect and make sense
>shot in digital in a way that doesn't compensate for the technology's disadvantages (looks bad)
>roadhouse scenes (out of place, badly shot, the songs, the bands, the extras, ...)
>student-tier storytelling/editing (characters are shown walking up complete sets of stairs)
>stretched out needlessly, long takes have no particular effect
>obviously delusional and/or inexperienced fanbase perceiving it as particularly meaningful, complex or "deep"
>can't compare to the original series that doesn't have those problems (coherent/complex and beautiful sets, costumes and make-up/well shot/well acted/well written/magnificent multi-dimensional characters and character relations, music, storylines and gimmicks/creates a unique athmosphere as a result, changing the world of television forever whereas "the return" neither manages to do something established really good nor to invent something new)
>extended pitch black scenes because of a lack of a competent cinematographer
>audio issues with microphone static left unaddressed because of poor sound design
>extremely poor editing with magically disappearing extras and production staff accidentally walking into frame
>somehow the best thing in tv history

Laura, I've said this before, and I'll say it again, because I worry about you. We've been friends for a long time, and God knows the stuff we've been through - and so do you. You've always cultivated that free spirit, that weird way you have to do things, and I respect that. I don't often meddle in your life, because I know that you can handle your own problems in your own way. So when I come to you talking in a serious manner like this, you're one to know that the situation is not like it usually is. And both of us know pretty well what this is about, don't we?... Yeah, we do. That garmonbozia. You're not going easy on it, Laura, and it worries me, because anything can happen right now. You're not your usual you, you're acting strange, and I don't know what else to do. I'm reaching to you personnally, because we're both adults, and have a long history together. We both care about each other, and know when it's time to ask each other politely - as I am asking you at the momment - to go EASY. Taking it easy is not an easy thing, if you get me. You probably do, you're a smart gal. Always have been... But you're letting yourself go, and it's getting to everyone of us. People are often asking "is she going to take it easy on the garmonbozia?". Because, man, this is getting really out of hand. So, I'll say this once more, and it's because of everything we have with each other, and I believe I can honestly come to you and say it: Laura.... please, buddy..... easy on the garmonbozia.

Assuming they decide not to do a season 4 or a movie, will they announce this? It's a limited series atm so even if they decide not to make more they wouldn't have to like announce cancellation. I'm okay with them not making anymore I just want to know, I don't want to spend the next ten years sitting around wondering if it'll ever come back. It'll be way easier for all of us I think to come to terms with this as an ending if we know it's an ending.

So that 18 could come around and remind us all what Twin Peaks was really about. The rape and abuse of a teenage girl, something that could never be undone.

Part 17 is the schlock fantasy, Part 18 takes us back to the core of the show, Cooper failed in his attempt to save Laura.

Just watched the last episode. Correct me if Im wrong.
They've beaten the evil.
Cooper can even save Laura by sending her in an other reality where she's been given an other life.
Diane and Coop also cross to that other reality (for whatever reason).
Creepy sex.
Diane left a note with different names because they're also different people here.
Cooper goes find Laura Palmer, brings her to Twin Peaks and she screams in horror because by seeing her old house she remembers the nightmare she went through.

It's an unfinished series. Leaving an ending ambiguous is one thing. Leaving dozens of vital plot points unaddressed while introducing dozens of new vital unaddressed plot points in your finale in exchange for a steady stream of obscure visuals is pretentious, masturbatory, and lazy.
And I'm actually a huge Lynch fan. It is not "Lynchian" to allow the audience to invest in dozens of characters and plot lines only to crap on all of it and make it all meaningless at the very end. Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway... these great films are obscure and ambiguous. But they generally provide a framework for meaningful speculation and analysis. Episode 18 entirely destroyed any semblance of a framework. It was lazy and cheap.

There's a line between just not wanting to explicitly state something and having an art project full of meaningless scenes. If the ending is indeed "the end", 95% of plots (from all three seasons and the movie) were utterly meaningless, merely filler.
I'm on board with slow, meandering, five minute sweeping the floor or driving in the dark scenes because that's the artistic license one has when they make a story. But when it turned out that 9/10 characters and story arks were utterly irrelevant, that's just bad story telling, not "creative license". Episode 8's 20 minute slo-mo explosion was creative, copping out of over a dozen plot points with "Well, time travel, alternate realities, or dreams means none of those things matter anyway" is not creative.

You faggots are a bunch of blind followers of Lynch who won't accept that "Twin Peaks: The Return" is a total disaster. This is the final proof that rebooting old series is a really *really* bad idea, since not even Lynch can do it right.

TPTR is not Twin Peaks: it's a bland, sad, and pathetic attempt of self-celebration in the form of an artificial continuation of an unfinished old work. So old that you, the creator, can't even remember correctly. Ironically, at a metalanguage level, the topics of this reboot perfectly reflect what reboots per se are: concretely, a doppelganger, product of a creative void. It's not Cooper who is lost here, it's David Lynch himself. Maybe this is his unconscientious talking...

I will tell you one thing, /tv/: after watching the first episode I was actually deceived for a moment, as I thought it was going to be great; maybe it was going to be more in the direction of FWWM, but I was OK with that. But then, after episode two I started to realize what was really going on here. At episode three, I started to cry and almost turned off my TV, as I finally understood what was happening here: it was the dead of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.

This is probably my last post here...but I think you people are largely both ridiculous and annoying at the same time, and here's why:
First, it's not about rapping something up in a neat bow...it's about getting something that at least follows its own internal logic and constructs. This ending wasn't a lose thread, it created a whole new ball of yarn in what was essentially a post-credits scene that went on for 80 minute and re-wrote the entire show...essentially making everything we'd seen meaningless.
Second - I'm sorry, but this whole multiple timelines/realities drivel is pretentious crap that sci-fI writers get out of their system by the time they're 18. Or they learn to do it in a clever way, like Lieber's big time stories.
Third - twin peaks was never a David lynch inscrutable movie. It was a mysterious, quirky show where lynch played with the venue and structure. It wasn't lost highway..,if it was, no one would have watched it or cared. I wanted twin peaks, not the oh so clever, oh so inscrutable mr. Lynch. That seemed to be what we were getting - until he screwed us all and ret-conned the entire thing into a pretentious lynch crap fest.
The show was twin peaks - the return. That's what is signed up for. That's what I mostly got for 16.5 episodes. What we finished with was Lynch crappimg on anything resembling consistency, cohesion or structure and then going back in time to turn the entire thing into lynchian lynch garbage.
So here I am - feeling cheated. Feeling like I got fooled, again, after a time investment. And I'm in this forum looking for something - anything - to make it seem less awful. And there's just grad school lint contemplation trying to make it mean something, or rationalizing that this ISN'T twin peaks...what did you expect?

The worst part is that Gordon's entire investigation was utterly and completely unnecessary and added nothing.

Even the subplot about Bobby and Hawk and jackrabbit's palace and extracting Diane as Naido out of there didn't really mean anything since Diane is not really needed for anything.

MR C's entire plotline also means jack shit since in the end he just randomly gets deposited at the sheriff's station only to get killed within minutes.

The more I think about this season in toto, I think it was a sixteen-hour prologue to a one-hour episode and a one-hour epilogue, more or less. I feel its purpose was to show us that we are all trapped in a mindset rooted in 20th century narrative, and something more random and multi-track is closer to the mark. We know we've hit the coordinates when we begin to feel uncomfortable. When Cooper asks "What year is this?" I don't think he's asking what year he's inhabiting; rather, he's questioning our expectations of the narrative, our demands for clarity and a happy ending - even a satisfying reunion. Why did we want to go back to a murder scene? What did we want to undo? Or do? Were these characters not supposed to change? When Cooper's America suddenly consisted of the names of Russian cities and foreign businesses, where going for breakfast can suddenly turn into an old West shootout, I think Lynch's purpose is plain - this IS the America we now I habit. He is showing us our world through THEY LIVE glasses, as it were. What Cooper may suddenly be inhabiting outside the Palmer house is a place we've not previously seen in this series - namely, reality.
>>
Even the Absoluteist of Madmen wouldn't end it there. It is clear he expects to make more and Showtime is game for more.

If there isn't more i'll be genuinely surprised.
>>
Being one hundred percent honest here fellas... Original series >> FWWM > The Return. That's right, I love the original series, I think it is absolutely some of the best television ever made and I will keep watching it annually till I die. Fire Walk With Me is way darker and weirder but still a very enjoyable, frightening ride. The Return is different. Almost everything feels different. That's all I wanted to say.
>>
Let's think about episode 8 of The Return, we can see the experiment/MOTHER giving birth to BOB and then taking

the form of an insect-like animal and forcing its way into the mouth a young girl. Now, I do believe that the

MOTHER is Judy and that the girl is a young Sarah Palmer; in the very same episode we see the Fireman realeasing a

"blessed" orb to the Earth, that Orb is the spirit of Laura, its destiny is to stay together with Judy in order to

prevent her awakening.
Think about it: in the Pilot (S01E01) we see a cheerful Sarah going to wake her daughter, only to find out,

moments later, that she is dead; throughout the first series Sarah changes her behaviour, she becomes more and

more nevrotic and she also starts to see things normal people could not see: the real face of BOB, a white horse,

visions in her dreams. I believe all this is due to the fact that Judy resides within her.
Now back to the plot of episode 17 of The Return "The Past Dictates the Future";
After Mr.C/BOB is defeated, Cooper has an encounter with Phillip Jeffries, he shows Cooper the true meaning behind

Judy: she is a power of malicious intent which tries to escape from the infinite (thus the 8 sing) bond that is

Laura's benevolent spirit. Cooper undestands that the only way to prevent this from happening is to save Laura so

that she can be with Judy/Sarah; he goes off to save her, he finds her in the woods and takes her hand: his

mission is accomplished.
Now, if Laura never died, then all the bad things that happened in this city would've never happened as well, and

Cooper didn't have any reasons to go to Twin Peaks to investigate...and he would've never known about Laura, that

is why all of a sudden she disappears in the woods and Cooper is alone.

I think I'd rather believe that 99% of this shit was a fantasy trip or coping mechanism in Laura's head than that she is an angelic entity manufactured by some extra-dimensional beings who also bestow some random Brit with a magic glove to punch her tormentor out of existence.

>>
>>87327665 cont.
Cooper has created a paradox, he can't live in this world, so he finds himself (or maybe he goes on his own

accord) to another reality, a reality in which all the people that knew him can't recognize him for who he truly

is (Diane signs the letter as Linda); maybe even he can't recognize himself and wanders around confused. He

finally meets Laura, only to find out she goes by the name of Carrie Page now, and it seems her life is a

nightmare. They drive to Twin Peaks, they are in front of the former Palmer's house, but a strangers opens the

door; Cooper is confused, he seems to act like Jeffries when he appeard in Philadelphia, he moves his mody forward

in an almost unnatural manner and asks "what year is this?" (funny how when Jeffries experienced the same thing he

lost his body and moved to a different dimension, just lik Cooper did now).
Suddenly the voice of Sarah Palmer calls for Laura; Carrie/Laura realizes she's not in the real world, she screams

and then wakes up in her house in 1989, she can be with Judy now.

Now I know I've left some things out; especially when Cooper says "Gordon will remember the unofficial version", I

couldn't really make sense out of that, but maybe in a day or two I may write some more.
It's been a fun ride, thank you /tpg/!

I agree right up to the point where Laura disappears. Considering it's preceded by Judy/Sarah throwing a tantrum, and Cooper here's here screams when Laura disappears, that she interfered and pulled Laura into the other world. Considering in the other world, Laura works at Judy's Diner and Sarah no longer lives in her house (instead it's a lodge spirit from the movie), Judy's actively trying to keep Cooper from taking Laura to her.

It criticized the escapism amd nostalgia that permeates a lot of modern entertainment.

It's a brilliant double whammy. The more I think about it the better I understand the purpose of the bleakness in the ending. People are running away from their lives to watch banal bread and circus entertainment. So instead of giving them the sacharine payoff they want, let's depict reality, in an attempt to make the watcher "wake up" and strive to make that reality a better place.

It's not even as simple as that they don't care about making any sense in the slightest, it's much much much more like that he hates, he actually hates the series and wants people who watched the the original to hate it more and more after each episode.

I stopped watching this show after episode 10 since there were other things on TV on Sundays at that point. I get that, and it was very well done, but I don't think it leads the viewer into addressing their own immediate situation. That just seems like grasping for a moral. I mean we're here, talking about it. Not even talking about it with friends. Maybe it is a commentary about how far detached the modern world is from reality, but I think it's more about how fantasy is prone to descend into nightmare than fall back into "reality".

Prior to episode 18 the vast proportion of season three consists merely of a hollow plot full of deus ex machina contrivances and convenient coincidences. The way that the fireman redirects the doppelgänger straight to the station is the clearest indication that the plot of season three, such as it is, is nothing more than a sideshow. Bad Coop and his rogues gallery of minions were full of puffed up menace, but by the finale everything was simply swept up like so many peanuts on the roadhouse floor. We were watching floor sweeping all the while.

Yes, episode 18 hits us with a hyper real dose of what the Las Vegas plot was playing with, the theme of American decline. Lynch and Frost demonstrated Las Vegas as a kind of snap shot of western civilization on the skids: an American city built in a desert, full of thieves, killers, and drug addicts, foreclosed homes and shiny casinos. "119" says the meth mom, unable to properly call out for help (911) in a world in which it's doubtful anyone would or could offer help anyhow. Episode 18 provides a solid coda for that part of the Return. Specifically, episode 18 shows fallen Americana without the magical interventions of Dale "Dougie" Cooper.

Lore-free interpretation here:

By saving Laura Coop destroyed Twin Peaks as we know, because it is defined by its "lack" of Laura. This entire season the show has gradually been "becoming itself" via things like

>early episodes not having much music, then gradually gaining more Angelo
>scene settings taking place far from Washington, but all of the characters ultimately converge there
>Norma deciding to keep a single RR instead of branding it
>Shelly dating a drug dealer again
>Becky being set up to be another teenager tragically killed, like Laura
>early episodes feature a lot of 2010's technology and branding, but it gradually fades away
>Gordon Cole himself is the one to introduce the cheesy damn fine phrases and whatnot

The show finally "becomes itself" when Coop re-enters town in episode 17, just like in S1E1. But he destroys all of this by saving Laura. Our show, "Twin Peaks," cannot exist as long as she is not killed.
