Doing some Market Research for NYT /tv/

Realistically, how much would you pay per month for a service that streams Holywood Blockbusters into your living room in 4K quality?
>>
>>87318295
I wouldn't mind paying the price of a movie ticket per movie for such a service.
>>
>>87318295
about tree fiddy
>>
>>87318295
Most Hollywood blockbusters aren't worth watching for free.
>>
>>87318295
0 because pirates get a superior product for free.
>>
>>87318295
Nothing, because the service would obviously be used to spy on me and observe my habits. There's no chance it would just be straightforward content delivery. Lots of fucking spying would be included as part of the cost.
>>
>>87318295
nothing. all I do for entertainment is shitpost, play 2 games that run on my toaster, and porn.
>>
>>87318295
It would have to be around the price range of $1, any more and there would be no point
>>
Just make good movies again.
>>
My philosophy is never pay for something if you can get it for free. And I'm pretty sure that fucking 4K quality TV in the living room is spying on me. Fuck mods and fuck anyone who works in any authoritative capacity and fuck criminals all the same.
>>
For most people on 4chan the answer is zero. Piracy is incredibly easy to perform, easy to get away with, and is a seemingly victimless crime, so why pay anything?

It's like asking people what they think their tax rate should be. If you gave them the option, they would say my tax rate should be zero, I shouldn't be taxed. And if cheating on your taxes were as simple as digital piracy everybody would do it.
>>
>>87318295
>paying for literal shit
>>
why isn't "making good movies" not an option for hollywood?
>>
$8 standard definition
$12 4k (I would almost always prefer this option)
must come with pause/rewind
24 hour viewing window.
Titles must be available within a couple weeks of wide release.

Bonus points:
A library of films to choose from, distributed directly from the studios without risk of being removed (like netflix)
>>
>>87319798
because they have a million executives and marketing chumps to pay, there's no money to make movies.

Here's the problem with any service like that:
>the fucking catalog

Netflix is shit because it doesn't have what you want to watch. Piracy currently lets people see films weeks before their dvd release, often while they're still in cinemas.
Until that issue is addressed, nothing will curb it

And consider this, there is literally no reason (other than artificially creating demand) to have a gap between a film stopping being in cinemas and being released on home video.
If there's even a week difference, that's a week where the only way to watch a film is through piracy. It's fucking atrocious

I don't have a 4K TV and there's not much reason to pay for streaming current Hollywood movies, considering that in that arrangement, my viewing options suddenly expand from a handful of recently released movies to every movie ever made that I haven't seen yet
I'm fullywilling to go to a movie theater, I just need something decent to watch that isn't an overblown blockbuster, capeshit, a cheap horror movie, or oscarbait

This thread is great.

People will always spend money.
>>
I really have to wonder if companies actually do market research here.
>>
>>87322040

I imagine they do it on any sort of social media. They wouldn't need to make specific threads for it though. You could just look through the catalog and get all the information you need.
>>
>>87322040
>>87322129
They would certainly do it by datamining instead of actually making threads. You know 4chan sells user data to cover costs just like any social media website.
>>
>>87322024
Yeah yeah yeah. I used to probably spend $20+ a week or so on movies. I've spent $0 in the last few years. I'm not going to pay for what they're putting put.
>>
considering dunkirk is the only movie i have wanted to see this year, it would have to cost less than the price of a single ticket
>>
>>87322167
I basically lived in the run-off $1 theaters as a kid. Sure the movie would be a year out of date but it was fine, I could pick up a dozen shows a day if I felt like it. I quit the theater shit before it got this bad.
>>
>>87322040
>companies

Someone is doing research. 'Companies' is is prob a polite euphemism though.
>>
Last movie I saw in the theater was a 2015 Melissa McCarthy comedy. It was horrible. I never want to go back to a theater again!
>>
>>87322254
Companies is a euphemism for larpers, you can buy 4chan data if you want to do research.
>>
>>87322229
Back in the day I spent like $3 a day renting movies. I wouldn't watch what they've put out in the last few years for free though. Shills can spin it however they need to, but it's reality.
>>
>>87322167
We know. That's why we made this thread. That's also why we made posts like the one you're responding to. There's a narrative to control. Just stop posting. Why would you solve captchas to post when you have no skin in the game? Leave the thread alone and go away.
>>
>>87318295
if the quality of films being released now where im lucky if theres 1 movie i wanna see each month? probably $5 or $6. if they included smaller scale, indie films that dont get international releases, id probably pay $10 or $15
>>
>>87320964

Why not just make smaller films that cater to different tastes? Instead they dump BILLIONS into 6-10 films that try to have mass appeal.
>>
>>87318295
zero.
i don't pay for any type of digital content since 2006

I never quiet get what it means when people say that "hollywood is collapsing"
It´s made out of several studios.
aren´t the most cancerous companies as in Sony and Disney still making money?
>>
>>87322368
Because 50% of the budget is marketing and smaller films compete with the marketing of some other film.
>>
>>87322349
How much is 4chan data worth?
>>
>>87322368

Because movies are inherently a social experience. They want it to be something everyone talks about. They are meant to be enjoyed with other people.

Not even trying to be edgy, but the truth really is it's commie propaganda, not art.

I'm sure there are decent people within the Hollywood system who would like to make quality again.

But it sure seems like as long as Trump is in office that's not going to be allowed to happen.
>>
>>87318295
id pay 20 bucks a movie or 20 dollars a month if it was 20 a movie i would probably use it less and so would everyone else reducing revenue for the company. A monthly fee of maybe up to 40 bucks would work but anything over that and no one is going to fucking buy it.
>>
>>87322363
>once a month
seriously?
I haven´t gone to a cinema for almost a year now
>>
>>87322451
I dunno, ask their ad affiliates.
>>
>>87322363
to add, i would only use this service if it was non-contractual, this year i've only wanted to see 4 films and 3 of them came out in the same month. i dont wanna pay money if i know theres gonna be months where i dont wanna watch anything. i also would only use this service if i had the ability to download the films and watch them offline (even if the option was for 720p for mobile/laptops and 1080p for TVs only) and it be usable on my laptop and TV. i spend about 1 week every 2 months away from my home for work and dont have access to a TV and i do watch movies on my laptop but because its a work laptop, i have to store them on a portable hard drive which sometimes causes hiccups in movies

The only reason I ever go to the movies is to watch something on a big screen with my brothers as a way of spending some time together. I already have Netflix so whatever you are proposing just seems like Netflix but a year earlier then it is now.
>>
>>87322538
It's been 2 years for me. I would love to start going again, but have zero interest in the 'movies' being released.
>>
>>87322538
thats why i said if i was lucky. ive only went to see Dunkirk and Logan in theaters this year, and i only wanna see Logan Lucky right now and i might just wait for a good pirated version of it
>>
>>87318295
I saw four films at the multiplex this year - Spider-Man Homecoming, Valerian, Dunkirk, and Terminator 2 3D.

At £8/ticket per film divided by 12 months of the year, any streaming service would have to be £2.66/month or less to be competitive.
>>
>>87322602
I read that as non-consensual and it made me wonder, what if movies were just beamed into your house and you had to pay to block them from appearing? Could this save Hollywood?
>>
>>87322631
It is more than just the movies. The atmosphere is bad, the people dicks, the food is much worse. Maybe there are still high end places worthy of going to see a movie, but the ones around me just aren't.

This

Smaller budget films can make money too, but a few big budget films make some large amounts of money in the past 5 years and now all of Hollywood wants in on the action

I've seen two films this entire summer, Baby Driver and Dunkirk

Dunkirk was a good movie, so it was worth the budget in my opinion

Baby Driver was a good small budget film that was ok and I somewhat enjoyed, so I didn't mind paying for it

Marvel movie #27 with a $150 million budget to make and market? No I'm not interested in that, I've never liked super hero movies and I don't care to see them, so studios need to get their heads out of their asses and realize just because they spend a shitload of money on a movie doesn't mean it's good and people want to see it

Guardians Vol. 2
Pirates of the Caribbean 5
Wonder Woman
Spider-Man Homecoming
Baby Driver

Logan Lucky

Because good movie does not mean lots of money. Hollywood would rather ride off perceived public interest than try to make a meaningful film. Market research rules the day, even if it means a huge decline every 40 years.
What we're experiencing here is the fall of the Blockbuster system that has been running since Jaws. People aren't going to see movies in the middle of Summer anymore, but in late Winter and fall.

What will you do when /film/ is made again? Everyday /tv/ gets closer and closer to /v/ in terms of speed and the same quality just before it was split into /v/ and /vg/
>>
>>87318295

A similar thing happened in the 40s-50s: Americans, mostly moving out into the suburbs, just couldn't be assed to go to the theater anymore when home entertainment was just as good, or better.
The cost and quality of streaming has had a large impact on attendance. Ticket prices have skyrocketed, but little has changed in movie theaters. 3D is a gimmick that has never taken off, yet you might be forced into forking over $20 if your movie isn't showing in standard format at the time you get there. Meanwhile, home video has grown from primitive VHS tapes to 1080p, surround sound presentation available at the drop of a hat.
It's also worth looking at the rise of the "television" series format. Episodic content has allowed studios to take more risks, allow more creativity, and increase profits. The closest thing Hollywood has come to this in recent years is "world building" (Marvel, Star Wars, etc). Netflix could allow someone to write an odd episode/series or two to see how the audience responds. Not really a big deal if there is a negative reaction, as they can just move on to the next episode/season/series. Taking a risk in a Hollywood feature film could cause unrecoverable backlash. If Netflix's experimental episodes or series work, they keep making similar episodes/shows and milk it.

I think convenience is the key. People don't generally pirate because it's ~$10 cheaper, they pirate because it's easy. People could pirate everything on Netflix, they're all happier to pay the monthly rate because it's easier. We're living in an age where convenience is everything. Making life easier with technology is big business these days: Facebook, Google, Amazon, Uber and countless other companies. Combine this with the low cost of great TVs these days (I just bought a 43" HDTV at Target for $250. It's near the lower end these days, but I never would have dreamed I'd own such a high quality TV as a 20-year-old student), and people have less and less motivation to go to a movie theatre.
The way for Hollywood to compete is simple: release their movies on this hypothetical streaming service at the same time as the wide release. Some anons said that it might work 2-3 weeks after, but then people would just torrent it if they wanted to watch. It's proven that people are fine paying a subscription fee, paying for individual films would be fine in this case too. I think that if Hollywood allowed such a business model and didn't take steps to lower quality, restrict access or otherwise punish the streamer then it could catch on.
Thoughts?

I like how you're implying there was EVER a period where "INTERRACIAL" (t/n note: interracial means "black man white woman" AND NOTHING ELSE EVER) were not at the forefront of conversation.
>>

I'm not asserting anything except that you need to fuck off back to >>>/pol/

4chan was never good but still just fuck off.

get out is not an indie movie se

seee the reason this thread exists is because the jews in media are losing their appeal because the population is so aware of freudian theories and mkultra style hypernormalization techniques used by advertising agencies to put asses in seat and feed people shite that'll make them compliant self conscious consumers of products placed in the films.

now they send their lackey here to do "marketing research" and he cant tell (((them)))
what we wan't which is gas the kikes let hollywood die.

fuck hollywood soon theyll be pushing tranies and pedos in movies
>>
>paid money to see Alien Covenant
>it sucked hot dick

literally 1 movie i've paid money to see and it was bad. i don't care for capeshit or star wars. why would i go to the movies?
>>
>>87332940
>OOOOH DAYUM GURL DON' GO IN THERE
>RUN YOU DUMB CRACKER
>AAAAAAHHHHH

I'll give theatres in black neighbourhoods one thing, they make shitty by-the-numbers horror films a much better experience.
>>
>>87333262
>soon

I've got news for you anon....
>>
>>87333262
In this reality, the main reason this thread exists is because its been a terrible year for movies.

People have always been and will always be fine with the pushing of any narrative, even ones where hitler did nothing wrong, if its done in an entertaining fashion.
>>

Who's Hollywood?
>>
I go to movie theaters maybe once every two months. Tickets in my area are very cheap, about $5 or $6 for a huge new release film.
I wouldn't pay more than maybe $4 per month.
>>
>>87333354
Do they really think we can't see right through posts like these?

They're getting desperate.
>>
>>87333408
Please tell me what I'm actually saying, then.
>>
>>87333442
Nothing. You're saying nothing. You're spinning a bunch of disingenuous gobbledygook to distract and divide.
>>
>>87318295
Try 0 dollars. Why would I spend money on the garbage Hollywood keeps shitting out.
>>
>>87333187
na my dude hollywood casted eva mendes over cameron diaz in hitch because in Hitch because at the time it wasn't profitable to show BMWF relationships, but they did make movies like "Guess whos coming to dinner" with WMBF.

only recently has bmwf been a socially presentable in media so you can fuck off, i know this because i am black male, and the only movie i saw with BMWF are an adaptation of Othello in the 90's, cruel intenions, and saving the last dance.

two of which had the same black man actor and absolutely ZERO scenes of them kissing or such.

Tday you got Idris Elba blacking down everyones white woman, which started with a movie with Beyonce in it. This is how hypernormalization works by fucking with the Overton window.

>learn how to greentext newfag
>>
>>87333493
So what actually happened is I bumped against your cognitive dissonance and you have no counter argument?

Okay then.
>>
>>87333582

>>
>>87318543
So much this. Who even watches movies anymore unless they were made before 2008?
>>
>>87333294
kek, niggas gonna nig man, i can't deny that.
honestly black familes can't afford to go to movies often so when they do it's an event. And they treat it like movies at home.
>>
>>87333582
>hypernormalization

Oh, you're one of those retards who actually thinks adam curtis documentaries aren't total loads of shit.

Gotcha.
>>
>>87319262
Naw, I'd pay for movies if they were good, even in the age of piracy. I don't wanna pay to have rich liberals preach at me, and I'm too old for capeshit.
>>
>>87333582
I take it back. Anon is on the level. And right. BMWF (especially) is being done intentionally to stir up racial tension.
>>
>>87333694
That documentary is bullshit, and Hafez al-Assad did nothing wrong, but the use of the word is valid.
>>
>>87333582
I like this guy.

99% of the agro racist posters are shills btw.
>>
>>87333582
So, outside of things that didn't happen (the only counters you have to any argument) your big bitch-point was "get out." A horror movie. That's specifically designed to make the audience uncomfortable. Having a BMWF relationship.

>last movies I've seen in theaters have all been comic related
>a few times a movie has come out that I've been interested in (Manchester by the Sea, Sicario, The Shape of Water, etc) but no theaters around me play them
>the only movies I plan on seeing in the immediate future are Thor and Star Wars
Blame the retardation of big chain theaters. I'd love to see smaller movies, but the theater closest to me apparently prefers showing Wonder Woman (which made less than $2 million last weekend) to Wind River
>>
>>87321131
>this post reminded me that Reddit actually enjoys the Hollywood bullshit coming out
God dammit what is it about that place that draws stupid people.
>>
>>87333871
Theaters make most of their money from charging $20 for several hundred pieces of corn and $15 for gallon jugs of sugar water that are 99.9% ice. People who actually like movies don't buy that shit.
>>
>>87333927
It's the reddit v. 4chan psyop.

Do men v. Women next. Or black v. White.

I've noticed they've started Catholics v. Protestants recently too.
>>
>>87333808
not just a BMWF relationship

a toxic relatioship where the main character is lured to a rich white country home , drugged , hypnotized, then sold to the highest bidder like a slave. when asked why the villain say
"because blacks are cool and more athletic" reinforcing the sterotypes

throughout the movie the protagonists "conspiracy theorist" friend is proven correct and the racial dividing lines between whites and blacks are actually left in a state worse than bbefore the movie was made

the only "scary" part of the film is the black "grandma" jumpscares..which im certain are te only thing that kept this film from being labeled a racially reversed ripoff of "birth of a nation"

>things that didn't happen
Schindlers List
The Pianist
Defiance
Anne Frank
American Sniper
>>
>>87333788
no they aren't 4chan is the only place you can discuss race openly and honestly from every perspective.

there is only one constant though..fucking jews telling us they're just like us, and turning different people agansy one another through media.

if you havent looked into eddie barnays by now, you don't get hollywood.
>>
>>87334052
Except I don't think of them as rivals. Reddits just another shit hole on the Internet with its own set of properties. One of them being it manages to draw in those legitimately autistic kids from your school that always gorged themselves on the most worthless mainstream entertainment.
>>
>>87334227
These are somewhat fair points.

You're just forgetting the most important point. The framing. By framing such things in A HORROR MOVIE, they are by default making the racial divides, the idea of toxic BMWF relationships, the idea of rich white women wanting mandingos, etc, as inherently absurd and ridiculous. They are relegating these concepts to the realm of fantasy.
>>
>>87334512

>They are relegating these concepts to the realm of fantasy.

correct, but if you analyze the various horror tropes and themes in the film itself , you'll realize it comes up short as an actual horror film and more as a black comedy.

The protagonist even has an action sequence where he becomes jet li and fights his way out and it ends on a comedic tone with his conspiracy friends looking at the camera saying "I told you so". (white people are evil)

consider also the ramifications of this film being presented as a "musical" or just a plain psychological thriller/ drama which it was.

also imagine if a white or asian man not associated with a comedy show directed it..

there would be a shitstorm.

but of course "black guys cant be racist" is the idea they played on, and pushed this garbage with.

I'm just saying as a black man that movie was trash and designed to leave wealthy white people in general as social antagonists warranting suspicion from black people.

Hollywood must die.
>>
>Im the poster who commented on the "no in between budget films like the shrinking middle class"
>I accidentally started a political discussion
fuck, that was one bad example, I should have said one of those shitty Found Footage horror movies or You're Next or that shit
>>
>>87334984
I see the implications of framing are a little beyond your mental capacity.

As you named not one, not two, not even three, but four distinct genre frames that render the subject matter contained as fanciful/absurd. And named them as if they would somehow have a different effect than horror, much less each other.

Basically once he protagonist didn't get shot by the police at the end of Get Out, all concepts contained therein were reduced to fodder for absurdity.
